A Systematic Literature Review of Doorstep Crime: Are the Crime‐Prevention Strategies More Harmful than the Crime?
In: The Howard journal of criminal justice, Band 52, Heft 5, S. 498-515
ISSN: 1468-2311
AbstractResearch literature into doorstep crime is limited. This article draws on a focused literature review, to explore existing evidence about the efficacy of crime‐prevention strategies targeting doorstep crime. The findings of the review suggest that doorstep crime strategies to protect older people frequently present offenders as a 'monstrous figure'; promote home security aids and adaptations; increase vigilance and suspicion; and encourage new doorstep habits. This article examines the nature and development of doorstep crime, and critiques the efficacy of prevention strategies that may, it is argued, risk damaging the older person's quality of life.
Crime and Crime Prevention Strategies: A Descriptive Analysis of Trends, Patterns, and Feasibility of Community Policing in Bangladesh
All countries around the world take various crime prevention initiatives to control crime to safeguard the peaceful living of their citizens and ensure socio-economic development of the countries. This study aims at studying the nature and trend of crime in Bangladesh and examines the history, structure, operational management, functional process, and success of community policing. It also attempts to investigate the feasibility of practicing community policing in the Bangladeshi context. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research design to collect relevant data using secondary sources. The results show that Bangladesh has been practicing both formal and informal crime prevention mechanisms. Formal crime control uses the law and government agencies, such as police, courts, and prisons to deter crime; while informal crime control employs moral and social institutions such as the family, religion, peers, and neighborhood groups to prevent deviant behaviors. The study also finds that the rapid modernization and substantial urbanization subsided the informal social justice system and strengthen the formal legal institutions. Overall, community policing was found to be a feasible strategy to control crime in Bangladesh with some modification and by improving the existing structure.

Security perspectives : analysis of crime-prevention strategies in Usme. ; Perspectivas de la seguridad : análisis de las estrategias de prevención del crimen en Usme
This article presents the first part of a study on crime-prevention and crime-control strategies in Usme, Bogotá. This part develops the most important theoretical models on crime-prevention and security concept. The second part will present the case study developed in Usme, during Luis Eduardo Garzón's administration as mayor. The guideline of the research was to find out the crime prevention strategies implemented in Usme during that time and their approach. The hypothesis is that political-criminal orientation of Usme's strategies responded to the logic of social defense ideology, due to a restricted and limited concept of security drawn from its very opposite ?insecurity-, which clearly refers security issues to what has been defined as "criminal".
