There is still insufficient research on the activities of the Ukrainian community abroad in the 1960s and 1980s in order to provide a comprehensive picture of the scope and coverage of the emigration human rights movement. It is important to expand and deepen information about organizations of Ukrainians related to printing publishing products.In order to analyze different areas of human rights activity of Ukrainian media and publishing houses in the diaspora, the functioning of leading diaspora magazines, newspapers and publishing houses was analyzed. The article presents the facts from their history,which testify to their active informational, book publishing, defense and "support" activities. In addition to the historical method, the system method and comparison were also used.The activities of the publishing houses "Suchasnist" ("Modernity") (Munich), "Smoloskyp" ("Torch") (Baltimore), "First Ukrainian Printing House" (Paris), newspaper "Shliakh Peremohy" ("The way of victory") (Munich), magazine "Vyzvolnyj Shliakh" (London) were taken into consideration. The role of the communicators through which the centers of Ukrainians abroad received self-published materials from mainland Ukraine is revealed. The information activity of American radio stations "Svoboda" and "Holos Ameryky", which actively cooperated with Ukrainian Diaspora media, is considered.The research focuses on defense work, in which printed materials about arrests and repressions in Ukraine were published in defense of Ukrainian political prisoners, and branches of the European and North American Amnesty International were joined. The essence of "ancillary" activity of Ukrainian emigration centers in the form of financial and moral support from abroad of political prisoners of the USSR is outlined.As a result, emphasis is placed on the fact that the human rights activities of the Ukrainian media and publishing houses in emigration were determined by complex information, publishing, defense and "support" directions, which proved to be sufficiently effective in restoring human rights and freedoms in mainland Ukraine. ; Досліджень діяльності осередків української громади за кордоном в 60–80-х роках ХХ ст. досі залишається недостатньо для того, аби цілісно уявити масштаби та охоплення еміграційного правозахисного руху. Розглянуто інформаційну роботу американських радіостанцій «Свобода» та «Голос Америки», які активно співпрацювали з українськими ЗМІ діаспори.Досліджено оборонний напрям роботи, в межах якого на захист українських політв'язнів багатотисячними тиражами видавалася друкована продукція про арешти й репресії в Україні, долучалися відділення Міжнародної Амністії європейських і північноамериканських країн. Окреслено суть «допомогової» діяльності українських еміграційних осередків у формі фінансової та моральної підтримки з-за кордону політв'язнів УРСР.У підсумку зроблено акцент на тому, що правозахисну місію українських ЗМІ та видавництв у еміграції визначали комплексно інформаційний, видавничий, оборонний та «допомоговий» напрями, які виявились достатньо ефективними у справі відновлення прав і свобод людини в материковій Україні.

Описані факти з історії діаспорних журналів та газет, які характеризують окремі дискусії, пов'язані з виходом самвидаву, контактами з українцями СРСР та змаганням між представниками еміграційних ЗМІ. Архівні матеріали використовувались для уточнення та формулювання основних положень статті. Про­аналізовано серію публікацій таких видань, як журнал «Сучасність» (Німеччина), «Українське слово» (Франція), видавництво «Смолоскип», інформаційний бюлетень «Облога» (США).На підставі публікацій в пресі та архівах дискусія, яка виникла у зв'язку з еміграційним виданням мемуарів Данила Шумука, детально обговорюється. The facts from the history of diaspora journals and newspapers are described, which characterize separate discussions related to the release of samizdat, contacts with Ukrainians of the USSR and the competition among representatives of the emigration media. Archival materials have been used to help clarify and articulate the main provisions of the article. A series of publications of such editions as "Suchasnist" magazine (Germany), "Ukrainske slovo" (France), "Smoloskyp" publishing house, "Obloga" newsletter (USA) are analyzed.On the basis of publications in the press and archives materials, the discussion that arose in connection with the emigration edition of the memoirs of Danylo Shumuk is conversed in detail. Also, the article outlines the competition between the American center of Ukrainians "Smoloskyp" and the German "Prolog" – "Suchasnist", in particular, in the issue of the primacy of publications of samizdat, which Ukrainians in diaspora received from the USSR. This discussion led to the appearance of a number of negative reviews on Ukrainian editions, in particular, on the emigration edition of Lina Kostenko's poetry and the bilingual album "The Invincible Spirit".The article focuses on the fact that, despite internal discussions and competition between each other, Ukrainians abroad in the second half of the twentieth century did one thing in common: they exposed the crimes of Soviet power and were opponents of the official Bolshevik ideology at the international level, produced periodicals and publications banned in the USSR, and published true information about the totalitarian Soviet regime.
