The subject of post-modernity has raised interest and also all kinds of criticisms. Concerns relate to politics, market, democracy, communication, traditional social actors, ethnic groups, cultures and multi-culturality, etc. Therefore the scope of the discussion is very broad and demands an academic effort, also an objective and also responsible and critic perspective. Information on Latin-American academic production on the debates about post-modernity provided by this piece aims to be a challenge and an invitation to a responsible criticism.
; This thesis focuses on the rediscovery of the ethical aspects of consumption. Principal consumption that is both sustainable and responsible presupposes what Weber termed a rational social action and represents an aspiration to live well. Vicarious consumption - which has existed for a long time – has become one of the principal if not the principal turning point in the society in which we live. Post-modern consumers, technically more prepared and able to express their wishes to the world of production and distribution, are aware that shopping has become an instrument with which to express commitment and responsibility in the public domain. Shopping has contributed to the affirmation and the determination of new ways of being and behaving, which converge with the new symbolic values tied to the emergence of new shopping habits. Using this hypothesis as a starting point, the empirical part of this thesis engages with a qualitative analysis of the development of the farmers' market, the embodiment of a short distribution chain. It examines a case study in the region of Molise, with the aim of understanding what is concealed behind the act of shopping and why there is now a preference for an alternative way of thinking that goes against the model of mass production. The farmers' market is a place of conviviality, where it is possible to stop, talk and consume something in company. It is an occasion in which physical, economic and above all social distances are diminished, where the idea of food shopping as merely an essential and alienating act, typical of the homo consumericus, is remote. Conceptions, habits and attitudes now promote a move away from a model of consumption founded on the principle of subjective well-being – a primary component of personal happiness, even when seen from the point of view of identity and expression – to a model in which consumers remain fundamental, but are now the main players in the quest for a better quality of life. The first part of the thesis, as an introduction, reviews the literature and discusses both classic and contemporary sociological theory, with the aim of producing a definition of the post-modern consumer. This is followed by a discussion of environmental sustainability and social responsibility, two concepts that are set in opposition to the logics of wasteful consumption, something that can be seen at the heart of the global environmental crisis. The ecological debate has become not only economic and political but social; the fruit of a new organisational logic in the field of consumption. The second part of the thesis deals with the field work, presenting amongst other things, data concerning the motivation at the heart of this new model of consumption. This is followed by a detailed exploration of the role of the producer/seller by focusing on the attribution of credibility which has been conferred upon them. A discussion of the concept of community, a concept still wide open in sociological debate, with a particular emphasis on the rediscovery of localism, concludes this research. ; Dottorato di ricerca in Sociologia e Ricerca Sociale (XXIV ciclo)
The preparation of this work focuses on the magazine Erogenous Zone edited during the years 1989 to 2001, the proposal consists in rescuing the magazine as a space for debate, reflection and production by the hand of a good number of intellectuals from various disciplines, especially psychology, who were questioning about the panorama that was brewing in the 90s at the political, economic and social level in a clear advance of neoliberalism about Argentina. This magazine launched 50 issues between its years of edition, reaching true popularity in the circle of intellectuals of the field "psi" of the time. That is why it is considered essential to recover both the proposed debates and the issues on which it was reflected. ; Facultad de Psicología
El mismo mar de todos los veranos is one of the most significant texts of the Spanish postmodern novel. Throughout the novel, Esther Tusquets proposes a representation of the new and complex conscience, which results in a text that is difficult to read. … first a pragmatic approximation of the text and second, a semantic one. This analysis will serve to test the borders between modern and postmodern narratives in what we can call a novel of the Spanish transition to democracy that was produced at the end of the 70´s and the beginning of the 80´s, and will also interpret the representation of the conscience proposed by Tusquets under the consideation of the schizophrenic conscience formulated by Deleuze and Guattari in the book Capitalismo et schizophénie.
ARTICLE EXAMINES 3 ASPECTS OF CONTINUITY AND CHANGE IN JAPAN SINCE 1945: THE ROLE OF THE EMPEROR IN JAPANESE POLITICAL LIFE; THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE GROUP IN JAPANESE SOCIAL STRUCTURE; AND THE NATURE OF POST-WAR JAPANESE NATIONALISM. THE UNDERLYING THEME IS THAT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNITY IS ONE OF CONTINUING INTERACTION, AND ONE THAT CAN BE STABILIZING.
Modernity in the West had, among other things, the effect of encouraging people to distance themselves, especially from the more cultivated classes, from ecclesiastical structures, at first, and then from the Christian religion itself. This distancing had incidence on individualism, which also led to a modern vision of man and society. This paper discusses the main philosophical, political and cultural motives that directly influenced, especially after the French Revolution, the accelerated process of secularization. This process led to the skeptical and post-metaphysical attitude of the post-modernity of the 20th century. Unlike previous ones, it was a century in which atheism was not an attitude of few individuals among the intellectuals but it spread also to large groups of citizens. However, since the last two decades of the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st, some changes can be perceived that could indicate a return of interest towards religion in the West.
Abstract This paper aims to demonstrate how the post-modern narratives contributed to the formulation of distortions in the paradigm of efficiency and democracy. Regarding the methodology, the deductive method was applied, with bibliographic analysis, studying the theoretical context of post-modernity, to understand its consequences. We conclude that democracy must rescue constitutionalism as a basis for legitimacy, removing the demand for efficiency in this role, under consequence of weakening democracy itself. Therefore, the innovation of the text lies in establishing the systematization and correlation between postmodernity, efficiency and deliberative democracy.
In the context of Cardinal Wyszyński's personalistic concept, a man understood as a spiritual, as well as corporal being, created by God in His image and likeness, endowed with human dignity from the moment of conception, the subject of rights and duties appears as the focus of the Christian perception of culture. The analysis of contemporary cultural reality, then, carried out in the above article in the light of the Christian tradition allows us to express the discussed issues in terms of a vocation addressed to every human being. Its position to the realities of earthly life emphasizes that in the creative activity of culture, one should see the most appropriate way of realizing the fullness of the human personality not only in the temporal dimension but also in the supernatural one. Moreover, emphasizing such elements as the human person, family, Nation, state, the international community, culture, economy, and politics understood in an integral way, as well as the Church proclaiming the universal message of salvation, the Primate's vision of culture exposes a praxeological character, rooted in particular human existence. It allows not only the direct inclusion of the human person in the current of civilization and cultural changes but also consents the human being to discover the right place in the dynamically changing contexts of the contemporary world. ; Celem powyższego artykułu jest ukazanie chrześcijańskiej tradycji wiary wpisanej we współczesną(post)modernistyczną rzeczywistość kulturową z perspektywy personalistycznej koncepcji kard. Wyszyńskiego. Przeprowadzona w powyższym artykule analiza współczesnej rzeczywistości kulturowej z perspektywy prymasowskiej wizji zaangażowania chrześcijan w kulturę pozwala wyrazić omawianą problematykę w kategoriach powołania skierowanego do każdego człowieka.
The concept of post-democracy, proposed by Colin Crouch, has achieved great success in political and sociological studies. However, the transformation processes undergone by democracy, especially in Europe, have significantly changed the scenario since the central part of the twentieth century. In this situation, the question that arises is whether the concept of post-democracy is still adequate or if it needs to be redefined. Therefore, if democratic processes have evolved technologically, the overall functioning of government systems seems to trace back ancient ways: the technocracy, the elitism of participation, the growth of political proposals which, recalling Max Weber, seem to become less legal and rational than charismatic. In this paper we will try to understand if democracy in Western world is really going through a time of crisis, and if post-democracy is still today adequate to describe it
