AbstractWe propose a new convergence potential indicator for standard growth convergence regressions: the global value chain (GVC) position index, measured by the contribution of high‐skilled labour in total domestic value added. Our convergence indicator can avoid the lagged dependent variable problem discussed in Barro (2015 and 2016) and deliver more accurate forecasts for China's GDP growth than GDP per capita does. Using the GVC position index, we predict that China's growth potential remains at 7–8% between 2010 and 2015, while the predictions using GDP per capita as the convergence potential indicator are much lower.

Public transit is highly promoted worldwide to reduce traffic congestion. An evidence-based planning of stop locations and routes with regard to residential and workplace locations can reduce walking distances to transit and the number of transfers, which can improve service quality of public transport and thus increase ridership. This paper proposes a novel method of identifying residential and workplace locations from smart card data. The proposed method identifies relevant stops first and then refines their catchments to narrow down residential and workplace locations in three steps: defining constraints from the design of the public transport network, movement logic, and land use. In 2017, we tested the method using Beijing smart card data. The results show close to 69% residential locations inference rates and more than 72% workplace locations inference rates. The mean value of inferred areas is approximately 20% of the areas derived by traditional methods. Available data on alighting stops verify the inferred results at least for flat fare systems.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the underlying mechanisms through which integration capability and learning capability influence IT outsourcing performance from vendor's perspective.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper develops a moderated mediation model to explain the underlying influence processes of integration capability and learning capability on vendor's performance. A sample of 237 vendor firms was obtained from China through two separated surveys. The hypotheses were tested with the partial least squares method and bias-corrected bootstrapping method.
Findings
The empirical results indicate that external integration capability (EIC) mediates the effect of internal integration capability (IIC) on vendor outsourcing performance, and the relationship between EIC and vendor performance is positively moderated by learning capability, while learning capability has a negative moderating effect on the link between IIC and vendor performance. Further, the conditional indirect effect is suggested. The indirect effect of IIC on vendor performance through EIC becomes non-significant when learning capability is low.
Originality/value
This study highlights the counterintuitive notion that learning capability may not always have uniformly positive effects and figure out the mechanism through which integration capability and learning capability can effectively improve IT outsourcing performance.
