A discussion of the uses of. factor analysis in reducing the number of measures which can be related to a criterion & thereby adding reliability & stability to the measuring instrument. Examples of such utilization of factor analyses are given. It is suggested that if this nontraditional use of factor analysis can 'better the structure, or clarify areas to be measured in opinion & attitude profile construction, this tool will have found a utilitarian role heretofore denied.' 1.
