With the decline in military spending, the United States relies heavily on state side support. Communications has never been more important. High-quality audio and video capabilities are a must. Watermarking, traditionally used for copyright protection, is used in a new and exciting way. An efficient wavelet-based watermarking technique embeds audio information into a video signal. Several highly effective compression techniques are applied to compress the resulting audio/video signal in an embedded fashion. This wavelet-based compression algorithm incorporates bit plane coding, first difference coding, and Huffman coding. To demonstrate the potential of this audio embedding audio/video compression system, an audio signal is embedded into a video signal and the combined signal is compressed. Results show that overall compression rates of 15:1 can be achieved. The video signal is reconstructed with a median PSNR of nearly 33dB. Finally, the audio signal is extracted with out error.

Abstract Following the increasing awareness on the global warming, international governments have set up severe targets on CO2 emission in transportation sector: the overcoming of these limits produces a fine which directly influences the market value of the vehicle. Moreover, concerning the traditional pollutants, they still remain targeted by future EURO6(b-c-d) limits. Charge air cooling, in turbocharged diesel engines, is widely used to increase air density, improve cylinder filling and, definitively, engine volumetric efficiency. This is usually done through a heat exchanger fed by environmental air positioned after the charge air compression: the cooling is strictly related to vehicle speed, dedicated radiator positioning, engine operating point and environmental temperature. All these factors lead to an in-cylinder intake air temperature in the 40-70°C range. A refrigerating unit, featuring an evaporator, suitably placed inside the intake manifold, could provide an additional cooling. Such an option is not so difficult to be implemented considering that a conditioning unit is already present on board for cabin comfort. This unit often is over-designed and frequently under-employed. In this paper an evaporator was placed on the intake line of a turbocharged diesel engine, available on a test bench, and the effects of the under-cooling of the charge air have been experimentally assessed. The evaporator is fed by an air refrigeration unit present on vehicle board for cabin conditioning. Fuel consumption saving has been observed as well as a sensible pollutants reduction, taking obviously into account the mechanical power required by the compressor.

This paper deals with subjective evaluation of audio-coding systems. From this evaluation, it is found that, depending on the type of signal and the algorithm of the audio-coding system, different types of audible errors arise. These errors are called coding artifacts. Although three kinds of artifacts are perceivable in the auditory domain, the author proposes that in the coding domain there is only one common cause for the appearance of the artifact, inefficient tracking of transient-stochastic signals. For this purpose, state-of-the art audio coding systems use a wide range of signal processing techniques, including application of the wavelet transform, which is described here.

This paper introduced an algorithm for lossless image compression to compress natural and medical images. It is based on utilizing various casual fixed predictors of one or two dimension to get rid of the correlation or spatial redundancy embedded between image pixel values then a recursive polynomial model of a linear base is used.
The experimental results of the proposed compression method are promising in terms of preserving the details and the quality of the reconstructed images as well improving the compression ratio as compared with the extracted results of a traditional linear predicting coding system.

The use of 3D data in mobile robotics applications provides valuable information about the robot's environment. However usually the huge amount of 3D information is difficult to manage due to the fact that the robot storage system and computing capabilities are insufficient. Therefore, a data compression method is necessary to store and process this information while preserving as much information as possible. A few methods have been proposed to compress 3D information. Nevertheless, there does not exist a consistent public benchmark for comparing the results (compression level, distance reconstructed error, etc.) obtained with different methods. In this paper, we propose a dataset composed of a set of 3D point clouds with different structure and texture variability to evaluate the results obtained from 3D data compression methods. We also provide useful tools for comparing compression methods, using as a baseline the results obtained by existing relevant compression methods. ; This work was partially supported by grant DPI2013-40534-R of the Ministerio of Economia y Competitividad of the Spanish Government, supported with Feder funds, and Valencian's Government project GV/2014/097.
