Effective materials management on construction sites is handled carelessly by construction practitioners. This may result in several challenges such as materials waste generation, poor quality of work, project delays, and poor materials flow. Construction practitioners in Abuja, Nigeria, do not understand the consequences of these challenges to construction projects. This article investigates the effect of poor materials management on materials waste, quality of work, and project profitability in construction projects in Nigeria. A qualitative research approach was adopted in the study which included collective case study investigations. The population for the study was ongoing building project sites (ten case studies purposefully selected) in Abuja. The research instrument was direct-covert observation by the researchers to observe and record the construction processes, people's behaviour, actions and interactions relating to materials management. The construction processes observed included materials usage onsite, loading/offloading of materials from procurement, storages, as well as materials handling and movement on site. Recording sheets with checklists were pre-set with statements (Likert items) and responses to observe and document the effect of poor materials management. The statements were rated on an ordinal three-point Likert scale. The observed/collected data were analysed using descriptive methods to determine the modal values. The findings from the study revealed that poor materials management has a considerable effect on material waste generation on any construction project site; moderate effects on quality of building projects, and both considerable and moderate effects on profitability in the construction projects. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that effective management of materials in construction projects would reduce the amount of waste generation, increase the quality of construction work, and offer optimum profitability to construction contractors. It is, therefore, recommended that the construction industry in Nigeria should collaborate with government agencies to develop guidelines for preparing a waste management plan for the construction industry.

The closing years of the twentieth century and the early years of
twenty-first century witnessed remarkable developments in the
international attempts to protect the world's cultural heritage. For
instance, in 1999 the Second Protocol to the Convention on the Protection
of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict was adopted. In 2001,
the Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage was
adopted whilst 2003 witnessed the adoption of the Convention for the
Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The United Nations
declared 2002, as the UN Year for Cultural Heritage and appointed UNESCO
as its Cultural Agent. There is no gainsaying that the UNESCO was
faithfully committed to this mandate and discharged its responsibilities
satisfactorily. However, the acknowledgment of the fact that lack of
information and inadequate appreciation of the UNESCO Conventions on the
protection of cultural property remained a formidable obstacle to the
realisation of the aspiration of the UN and UNESCO informed the 2003 Abuja
Workshop convened primarily to promote the UNESCO Conventions protecting
Cultural Property. What follows is report on the 2003 Abuja Workshop.

The study was prompted by the abiding concern for the continuous existence of failed and abandoned projects in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja. The study investigates the extent to which funding, change of government, existing project monitoring mechanisms and workforce affect the implementation of rural development projects of the Council. Content and thematic analysis aided by Nvivo11was used for the analysis of the interview. Multiple regression was used for hypothesis testing. The finding indicates that the four (4) factors impacted the Area Council's implementation of rural development programs. However, the relative contributions of each factor differed in order of ranking. Change of government and funding, with standardized coefficients of (.414) and (.266), were found significantly responsible for the incidence of failed and discontinued projects in the Council. The study recommends project continuity for succeeding governments and that efforts to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) be scaled up.

Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Hepatitis B Virus are among the clinical conditions of public health importance with high morbidity and mortality worldwide, especially in developing countries. These two infections share common route of transmission that puts HIV positive individuals at risk of co-infection with HBV. It is therefore necessary to document the seroprevalence of HBV among HIV patients in Abuja. Materials and Methods: The seroprevalence of HBV among HIV patients attending Wuse district hospital in Abuja was studied using the Rapid Test Detection (RTD) strips, Methods involving Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) (PCR). Non-HIV volunteers in the same area served as control. DNA and RNA were extracted with zymo extraction kits, the genes purity quantified by Nanodrop 1000 and amplified by 9700 Applied Biosystem Thermocycler. The amplicons were resolved by Agarose Gel Electrophoresis. Phylogenetic analysis and sequencing were done by Inquaba South Africa and data analysed statistically with Graphpad prism version 7. A total of four hundred (400) subjects were involved in the study using Stratified Random Sampling method; two hundred (200) HIV patients from the district hospital and two hundred (200) for the Non-HIV volunteers within Abuja Municipal. Results: The prevalence of hepatitis B in Wuse district hospital using RTD was 4% as against 20% when PCR method was used. The phylogenetic analysis of HIV revealed HIV1 isolate closely related to AF069943.1 HIV-1 isolate with 2,538 bp genomic DNA obtained in 1995 from a hospitalized individual from Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria. The prevailing HBV genotype was HBV genotype E. Conclusion: The findings of this research confirm that HBV is a major co-morbid infection and a threat to HIV patients. The PCR is the best method of diagnosis. The government should improve in creating awareness and vaccinating the populace to reduce the prevalence of these infections.

Most data on IPV before World Health Organization multicountry study (WHOMCS) usually came from sources other than the military. Result of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge and may serve as a baseline for future studies in military populations. This study compares the prevalence of the different types of IPV against women in military and civilian communities in Abuja, Nigeria.Methods: Using a multistage sampling technique, 260 women who had intimate male partners were selected from military and civilian communities of Abuja. Collected data on personal characteristics and different types of IPV experienced were analyzed to demonstrate comparison of the association between the different forms of IPV and the respondents' sociodemographic and partner characteristics in the two study populations using percentages and Χ-square statistics, and P-value was assumed to be significant at ≤0.05.Results: The prevalence of the four major types of IPV was higher among the military respondents than among civilians: controlling behavior, 37.1% versus 29.1%; emotional/psychological abuse, 42.4% versus 13.4%; physical abuse, 19.7% versus 5.9%, and sexual abuse, 9.2% versus 8.8%. Significantly more respondents from the military population (59 [45.4%]) compared to civilians (21 [19.4%]) were prevented by their partners from seeing their friends (P=0.000). The situation is reversed with regard to permission to seek health care for self, with civilians reporting a significantly higher prevalence (35 [32.4%]) than did military respondents (20 [15.4%]) (P=0.002). The military respondents were clearly at a higher risk of experiencing all the variants of emotional violence than the civilians (P=0.00). The commonest form of physical violence against women was "being slapped or having something thrown at them, that could hurt", which was markedly higher in the military (43 [33.1%]) than in the civilian population (10 [9.3%]), (P<0.05).Conclusion: IPV is a significant public health problem in Abuja, and the military population is clearly at a higher risk of experiencing all forms of IPV compared to the civilian population. The military should encourage and finance research on effect of military operations and posttraumatic stress disorders on family relationships with a view of developing evidence-based treatment models for military personnel. The study is concerned with multimedia design and development competencies among computer science lecturers in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 39 Computer Science lecturers and was all studied without sampling as the population was small. A structured questionnaire was used in collecting data for the study. Data collected were analyzed using mean scores and ranked according to the level of ratings on each option. Result from the data analyzed showed that Computer Science Lecturers are competent in textual creation and less competent in audio editing, graphic design and animation creation. With respect to these findings, the researcher recommended that Computer Science lecturers in federal universities should engage in continuous training in the design and development of multimedia technologies. University administration should provide Computer Science lecturers adequate funds and incentives to enable them attend capacity building programmes such as Conferences, Seminars and Workshops on the design and development of multimedia courseware for effective instructional delivery. Federal Ministry of Education and relevant government agencies should fund Computer Science programme in federal universities and ensure that computer laboratories of those universities are fully equipped with computers and appropriate multimedia technologies.

Acknowledged as a policy target for the government of Nigeria, healthcare provision represents an important preoccupation for the government. As with other public policies, the achievement of policy goals in Nigeria is usually encumbered by numerous factors of implementation across various sectors. In the health sector, factors such as inadequate physical infrastructure, shortage of healthcare personnel, limited medical supplies etc. have hindered the implementation of several health policies. National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is one of such policies and this study examined the effects of shortage of healthcare personnel on the implementation of NHIS policy in FCT, Abuja. Specifically, the study evaluated the opinions of health workers as well as enrollees of NHIS in four purposively chosen Area Councils of the six Area Councils in FCT. This study adopted a survey research design with Rensis Likert's five-point scale questionnaire instrument administered to both categories of respondents. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 25) and the T-tested statistical tool was used to test the hypothesis. The study found out that shortage of health personnel is a major barrier to the effective implementation of NHIS in the FCT, Abuja. Consequently, the study recommends that there should be massive recruitment of qualified healthcare personnel; training and retraining of healthcare workers; and timely and adequate remuneration for the healthcare workers in FCT, Abuja.

The aim of the research work is to ascertain the role of incentives on the performance of health workers in some selected public sector using Abuja as a case study. Data collection was by the used of self-administered questionnaires, which were distributed to Doctors and Nurses in some selected public health facilities in Abuja. The statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used for data leaning and analysis. The result obtained from the analysis shows that 64.1% agreed that incentives brings job satisfaction, 51.4% agreed that non-monetary incentives promotes organizational performance , 63.3% agreed that non-monetary incentives promotes good work relationship, 53.7% agreed that non-monetary incentives reduces stress, 65.3% agreed that incentives help in the achievement of organizational goal, 58.7% agreed that incentives serve as a motivation to employees, 57.5% agreed that incentives help workers to improve skills and qualifications in line with their job and 60.2% agreed that incentives increase the level of employee's confidence on employer. It was concluded that incentives based on terms and conditions of employment play significant role on the performance of health workers in the public sector, performance based incentives play significant role on the performance of health workers in the public sector, there is significant government attention towards incentives and performance of health care workers in the public sector and non-financial incentives play significant role on the performance of health workers in the public sector.

This paper is aimed to investigate the stakeholder perception of economics teacher mastery of professional skills in senior secondary school in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses were tested. The study adopted a correlation research design. The study population comprised 150 secondary school senior economics students and 20 stakeholders within the schools system in Abaji. Stratified proportionate sampling technique was used to sample 170 respondents from the population of the study. The researchers developed one sets of instruments titled ''Stakeholders perception of Economics Teacher Questionnaire (SPETQ)'' was used for data collection. The instrument was subjected to face and content validation by two experts who are lecturers; two in Department of economics education university of Abuja. Cronbach alpha was employed for the reliability test and this yielded a coefficient of 0.78, 0.68 and 0.81 for the three parts of (SPETQ) and 0.78 . Pearson product moment coefficient was used in answering the research questions and t-test was used in testing the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed among others that most economics teachers have adequate knowledge of their subject matter, good at lesson plan/lesson note writing skills, effective use of instructional aides, good evaluation skills, good at classroom management skills and marking and recording skills. also revealed that there That most economics teachers performs their job below expectation on the bases of comes to class regularly, gives enough assignment and class exercises, comes to class with his/her lesson plan, marks and records the CA and students exams on time and corrections of failed C.A and assignment in the class.
