Modern Ukrainian society requires journalism to create high-quality analytical materials that contribute to the formation of the socio-political position of citizens and influence the adoption of political decisions by representa-tives of government structures, leaders of political parties, public organizations. This, in turn, requires journalists to have competence, the ability to think critically, evaluate, analyze, and forecast. Creation of high-quality journalistic materials requires the development and application of the methodological tools of political journalism, the formation and replenishment of which occurs at the intersection with other sciences and through related fields of activity. The acquisition of this tool by a political journalist is the key to his successful work. The article is devoted to the actual topic of studying the methodological aspects of political journalism. Attention is focused on the problem of methodology, which has a close connection with the search for methods of political journalism. Knowledge and skilful use of techniques, methods and methods are the essence of the journalist's meth-odological culture. Its components are the general methodology of social cognition, the general journalistic method-ology, the methodology for obtaining empirical data, and the methodological basis for interpreting the information obtained. The author analyzes various approaches to the classification of methods used in journalistic activities. The defini-tion of methods of journalism can be decided only at the methodological level, which involves the generalization of already existing forms and methods of journalistic activity with all other forms of human activity. The article drew at-tention to the expediency of the transformation of general scientific methods of cognition and their specific use in journalism, the replenishment of the traditional journalistic arsenal of methods with new ones, the individual creation by the journalist in practice of his own methods, which later become generally known. Tomáš Masaryk, the founder and first president (1918-1935) of interwar Czechoslovakia, devoted considerable time to founding, tracking, and attempting to take over newspapers and journals. In this article, Andrea Orzoff argues that journalism possessed central importance in interwar Czechoslovak political culture. Every party had its own press apparatus, making newsrooms into logical extensions of the usual arenas of political contention. But especially for Masaryk and his longtime collaborator Eduard Beneš, newspapers were a means of communicating directly with the electorate, thus subverting or evading the constraints of parliamentary politics. Orzoff offers various examples of Masaryk's successful and unsuccessful attempts to meddle in the affairs of the interwar press. She concludes that print culture helps scholars understand interwar Czechoslovak democracy and its closeness to Austro-Hungarian political culture. Particularly, the history of interwar journalism helps clarify the activities and opinions, long mythologized, of the Czechoslovak "freelancer president."

Abstract.Headlines play a key role in influencing how and about what citizens are informed. In news media, their task is threefold: to represent stories, signal informational hierarchy and draw publicity for (or sell) what follows. This article examines the representative dimension of headline news content for the 2006 Canadian federal election campaign, testing whether public media headlines more faithfully reflected story-level coverage than commercial media. Comparing both public and commercial media coverage of this watershed election presents a unique opportunity to assess whether the overarching macro-incentive of commercial media—profit-making—may have influenced micro-level relationships between headlines and stories. Results of 55-day multiplatform analysis (N = 11,002) involving CBC election media and 12 commercial newsrooms reveal few differences with respect the representativeness of headlines from public and commercial media, save for the presence of journalists' opinion in headline content.Résumé.

; The features of political journalism due to its subject field are analyzed. The authors focus on three issues: defining the essence of political journalism, revealing the specific features of journalism in politics, highlighting the relationship between political science and political journalism. The main conclusions of the study are as follows: political journalism includes only those publications in the media, the subject of which is directly the political sphere of public relations. Political journalism is determined by the following factors: political regime, the priority of the function of social control and the cyclical nature of activity. Political journalism, although related to political science, is at the same time significantly different from it.

Focusing on fake news, disinformation, and misinformation, this chapter addresses how the main actors in the political communication process (politicians, news media, and citizens) deal with the increasingly complex information environment in Scandinavia. In this chapter, we examine how politicians apply the term "fake news" in relation to both news media and political opponents. Additionally, we address how the news media deal with the challenge of fake news and disinformation, typically through verification and fact-checking. Lastly, we examine how citizens relate to fake news, employing data from the Reuters Digital News Report (Newman et al., 2018) from the three Scandinavian countries: Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. This study demonstrates that we need new methods for digital source criticism, verification, and media literacy in an information environment suited to the information manipulation of text, icons, images, and video.

This article develops an analysis of the political programmes broadcast by the French channels during the presidential election of 1995. The study uses a theoretical framework based on Elias's notion of `figuration' and offers a brief description of the French `media landscape', profoundly changed in the late 1980s by the dual process of privatization and the birth of new television channels. The analysis then focuses on the study of the programming of the French channels, with a strong emphasis on the strategies pursued by the public channel France 2 and the private channel TF1, whose respective programming choices were completely different. Finally, a last point suggests some reflections on the necessary and uncertain rise of a new kind of political journalism in the media. Beyond the French case, this article offers some reflections both on the concept of `frame repertoires' for political broadcasting on television and about the international trends concerning the organization of political debates in the media.

This article observes how developments in politics, society, the media, and journalistic ethos impact political journalism content in Finland between 1995 and 2015. The focus is on three newspapers: the dailies Helsingin Sanomat and Aamulehti, and the tabloid Iltalehti. Using a coding scheme developed by Benson and Hallin (2007) and utilizing earlier findings by Kunelius and Väliverronen (2012), the analysis indicates two different approaches to politics at story level: a neutral and policy-oriented style in the two dailies, and a more diverse take by Iltalehti. Within stories, journalistic interventionism increases in all papers until 2010 and then diminishes. Differences emerge between the dailies and Iltalehti in journalistic presence, reporting patterns and sources used. Notably, in recent years, Iltalehti's approach has become more reminiscent of the dailies both at story level and within stories. The findings highlight the impact of the general journalistic ethos and the differing market considerations on the journalistic content.
