"The core of this edited volume originates from a special issue of the Journal of the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association (JOTSA) that goes well beyond the special issue to incorporate the stimulating discussions and insights of two Middle East Studies Association conference roundtables and the important work of additional scholars in order to create a state-of-the-field volume on Ottoman sociolegal studies, particularly regarding Ottoman international law from the eighteenth century to the end of the empire. It makes several important contributions to Ottoman and Turkish studies, namely, by introducing these disciplines to the broader fields of trans-imperial studies, comparative international law, and legal history. Combining the best practices of diplomatic history and history from below to integrate the Ottoman Empire and its subjects into the broader debates of the nineteenth-century trans-imperial history this unique volume represents the exciting work and cutting-edge scholarship on these topics that will continue to shape the field in years to come"--

The article examines the current stage of development of society, which is impossible to imagine without international trade. The priorities of modern foreign trade policy have led to the reform of the principles of foreign trade. The key to quality reforms in the field of foreign trade is its proper legal regulation. International trade has a crucial role in the field of international economic and legal relations at the present stage of development of the world economy as a whole. In the conditions of transformation of the market economy of Ukraine, foreign trade is perhaps the most important means of filling the state budget. The key problem of foreign trade is the improvement of the structure of Ukrainian exports and imports, the introduction of an effective strategy for Ukraine's integration into the world economy with its focus on active export growth and differentiation of its potential, and improving the legal regulation of foreign trade relations between Ukraine and world trade leaders. In this regard, it is necessary to consider the peculiarities of development, factors of growth of international trade and legal regulation of foreign trade relations at the present stage. The author considers modern Ukraine, which in difficult conditions of external military aggression and destruction of a large part of the economy, inclusion in the world economic space is a key task of foreign economic policy, the solution of which will allow Ukraine to take a favorable place in the international division of labor. In this regard, Ukraine faces many problems related to the process of establishing work under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the World Trade Organization in order to smoothly export its own products. The further place of Ukraine in the world economy and the well-being of its citizens will depend on the solution of these problems. Also, having gained membership in the World Trade Organization, Ukraine, in such a difficult time, was able to resolve disputes at the interstate level.
The relevance of the topic of a scientific article is related to the frequent cases in practice when there is a dispute over the application of the law of a particular state. With the help of the analysis of family law and private international law, a circle of subjects of legal relations is established that is connected with maintenance obligations complicated by a foreign element. In modern times there are many problems, in particular, the consequences of the dissolution of a marriage between spouses (one of whom is a foreign citizen) in the presence of minor children are poorly regulated internationally. The main problem in resolving issues related to alimony relations is the definition of applicable law. That is the law of which country (the right of citizenship of the husband's state or the right of citizenship of the wife's state) will be applied to resolve the dispute. In this paper, we will consider existing problems and offer our own vision of ways to solve such problems.
