In order to break out of its diplomatic isolation, Taiwan has employed its economic strength to gain friendship. One way it has beated up this effort has been through the use of foreign aid. The author takes a look at Taiwan's foreign aid policy since the late 1980s by examining the extent of its success and failure and investigating its scope, durability and implications.(DÜI-Sen)
(BIOst-Wpt)
Using a framework derived from Albert O. Hirschman's book "Exit, voice, and loyalty: responses to decline in firms", the article aims at investigating dissident intellectual behaviour in socialist China. It inquires whether the existence of an exit option diminishes an intellectual's penchant for using or hear voice. (DÜI-Sen)
According to the author, the PRC must focus on collective rights to pursue successful economic and political sources. However, it is not true that China's past holds no trace of the concept of human rights, and thus it does not follow that the notion belongs entirely to the West. He explores Chinese notion of human rights with particular reference to Confucianism, Taoism and Marxism. (DÜI-Sen)
After discussing Taiwan's economic and political development, the author points out that while the country's economic development is widely known, its political development is relatively little known outside Taiwan. He stresses the importance of regional studies on Taiwan and briefly reviews some works on it. (DÜI-Sen)
