Eesti kultuuriloo lahutamatud osad on kalandus, laevaehitus ja meresõit üldiselt. Kahjuks oleme tänaseks jõudnud olukorrani, kus pärast suletud rannajoonega nõukogudeaega on randlustraditsioonid välja surnud. Puudub merealade arendamist koordineeriv seadusandlus ning hobimerendusega seonduv on riiklikul tasandil organiseerimata. Sellest tulenevalt seati antud töö eesmärgiks Eesti merenduskultuuri arengut soodustava kontseptsiooni väljatöötamine, miles keskendutakse igameheõigusel baseeruva lihtsa ja kasutajasõbraliku mererekreatsiooni võrgustiku loomisele. Kontseptsiooni arendamisel kasutati projektalana Tallinna linna. Töös kasutati kolme uurimiskomponenti: linnaehituslikud ja funktsionaalsed seosed, merendusega seotud asjatundjate seisukohad ning kogemuslik tagasiside hobimeresõitja seisukohast, milles igaühes kasutati kahte erinevat uurimismeetodit. Kaardianalüüsi ning planeeringute statistilise analüüsi meetodiga uuriti Tallinna kui projektala hetkeolukorda mererekreatsiooni seisukohast ning merealade käsitlust siinses planeerimispraktikas. Professionaalsete seisukohtade väljaselgitamiseks küsitleti merendusasjatundjaid ning tavainimeste eelistuste kaardistamiseks viidi läbi Tallinna meremaastike visuaalesteetiline hindamine. Tallinna hobimeresõidu tingimustega tutvumiseks korraldati vaatlusretk. Uurimusest selgus, et maailma mastaabis on mererekreatsioon piirkonniti väga populaarne ning negatiivsete mõjude ärahoidmiseks hästi organiseeritud. Seevastu Eestis on tingimused kehvapoolsed ja merealade käsitlus planeerimistasandil puudulik. Sellele vaatamata on veepealne virgestustegevus Eestis jõudsalt kasvamas ning mereäärsetele aladele ehitussurve suur, seega potentsiaalne keskkonnamõju ajas kasvav. Inimestele meeldib puutumatu looduskeskkond ning kõrge identiteediga maastikusse hästisobituv arhitektuur. Industriaalalad ja autod on merepealse virgestustegevuse kontekstis ebameeldivad. Selgus fenomenaalne tõsiasi, et mererekreatsiooni seisukohast eelistatakse häid veeskamistingimusi, ent selleks vajamineva infrastruktuuri osas ollakse esteetilisest aspektist pessimistlikud. Tallinnas on uurimistulemuste põhjal ca 30 km 40‐st mererekreatsiooni jaoks hästisobivat kaldajoont ning enamik sellest visuaalesteetiliselt kõrgelthinnatud. Seega on kasutamata hobimerenduse potentsiaal Eesti kõige suuremas linnas märkimisväärne. Uurimistulemuste põhjal koostati Eesti mererekreatsiooni kontseptsioon, mille peamisteks juhtmõteteks on olla kõigile kättesaadav, kasutajasõbralik, looduslähedane, soodne ja paindlik. Kontseptsiooni ülesehitus jaguneb selle sisupunktide rakendamise järjekorrast lähtuvalt eeltöö, rajamise ja ülalpidamise etappi. Esimeses etapis luuakse piirkondlikele võrgustikele efektiivne õiguslik alus, tegeletakse kohaspetsiifilise analüüsi ning planeerimisega. Teise etapi raames tegeletakse mererekreatsiooni võrgustiku projekteerimise ja väljaehitamisega ning infokeskkonna loomisega. Viimases etapis keskendutakse võrgustiku hooldamisele, täiustamisele, valdkonna propageerimisele ning haldamisele üldiselt. Kontseptsiooni rakendamisel on oluline lähtuda iga paiga eripärast ja võimalustest ning kohandada seda vastavalt vajadusele. Töös valminud kontseptsiooni üks eesmärkidest on muuta valdkond Eesti arenguloos aktuaalseks ning olla järgnevate samalaadsete tööde lähtekohaks. ; Fishing, shipbuilding and seafaring in general have been integral to the cultural history, yet today, unfortunately, we are in a situation after the Soviet era and closed waterfront, when the coastal traditions have died out. There is no legislation regulating the development of coastal areas nor is seafaring as a hobby organised on the state level. The objective of this thesis was to draw up a conception to advance maritime culture in Estonia; a conception that focuses on creating a simple and user‐friendly network for maritime recreation, based on the right to roam. The case study area of the work was Tallinn. Three research components including six different research methods were used in the work: functional and town planning relations, the opinions of experts on fields related to the maritime sector and empirical feedback from hobbyist seafarers. The aim of the first component was to outline the current situation of the possibilities to engage in recreative seafaring in Tallinn and to analyse approaches to coastal areas among different levels of planning. Goal of the second reseach component was to find out the opinions of experts and thirdly was found out the positive and negative aspects of the Tallinn coastal area from the point of view of a hobbyist seafarer. As it turn out, on‐water recreation is very popular in some areas of the world and widely organised to minimise the negative impacts to the nature, but in Estonia the situation is bad and application of legislation is inadequate in its practice. Though the number of recreative users in Estonia is increasing and according to that also the impact to the nature. In general, people like natural environment ant well‐fitting architecture from the aspect of maritime recreation. Industrial landscapes and cars are aesthetically unwelcomed elements in space. When considering the findings, a phenomenal fact emerged, that people don't like the man‐made elements in the landscape, but evaluated the situation of infrastructure that serves maritime recreation, bad. In Tallinn, there is around 30 km of 40 well‐suitable for maritime recreation. According to that, there is a great unused potential in the largest city of Estonia in the field of maritime recreation. Based on the results, a conception for Estonian maritime recreation was developed, and it adheres to five statements where it is said that an ideal maritime recreation is available to everyone, user‐friendly, close to nature, affordable and flexible. The structure of the conception is divided into three parts, following the order of employing its content: preliminary work, building phase and maintenance phase. In the first phase, an effective legal basis for regional networks is founded and a site‐specific analysis with planning are carried through. In the second phase the maritime recreation network is designed and built and the information centre is established. Last phase includes maintenance and improvement of the network, promoting the field itself and general maintenance. When putting the conception into practice it is important to take into account the characteristics and possibilities of each and every site and to adjust the conception accordingly. One of the objectives of the work is to make the field of maritime recreation important in the evolution of Estonia and give a starting point for the next works.

In this article I use quantitative data from 91,916 pieces of chipped stone artifacts from the Copán Valley and its hinterland in Honduras to understand better the nature and role of exchange in the development of a Classic Maya state‐level society. The results of this study suggest that intraregional exchange was more crucial for state development than was longdistance exchange. The management of procurement and exchange of utilitarian commodities, such as Ixtepeque obsidian blade cores, along with other factors, played a significant role in the development of the Copán state. In contrast to other major Maya lowland states, the Copán state directly obtained obsidian blade cores from nearby sources, distributed them to local leaders at Copán, and exported them to local rulers in neighboring regions. The Khoshmenzil Wall is a new archaeological site discovered in the lower reaches of the river. Rubas, on the northern outskirts of the village. Rubas of Derbent region of the Republic of Dagestan. The archaeological site is the 6th section of a stone wall preserved on a country road in the northern outskirts of the village. The purpose of the research was to determine the functional belonging of the construction site, establish its dating and possible belonging to the barrage defensive line noted in written sources of the mid-18th century. in the lower reaches of the river. The southern facade of the wall with a length of 3.6 m and an adjoining section of backfilling, including torn stone and lime mortar, have been preserved. The stone blocks of the wall are installed using the "poke-spoon" technology. The base of the wall is placed on a stone fill, consisting of torn stone, filled with lime mortar. The height of the preserved section of the wall is 0.6 m. The section of the wall is located on the left bank of the river, it is oriented along with its channel (W – E).The preliminary dating of the monument was determined by the features of the facade design and masonry technology within the middle of the 6th century.

The western phosphate field produced about 15 percent, in 1970, of the nation's domestically consumed phosphate rock and contains an estimated 58 percent of the nation's indicated phosphate reserves. The central portion of the western phosphate field, which contains the Dry Valley area of southeastern Idaho, encompasses the greatest amount of mineable phosphate reserves in the smallest geographic area within the western field. Exploration of properties in the area should follow an orderly sequence of literature search, area reconnaissance, detailed target appraisal, and detailed three-dimensional sampling to effectively evaluate each property. Present exploration techniques include topographic analysis, vegetative investigation, profile drilling patterns using a portable rotary-table drilling rig, geophysical logging of the drill holes including gamma-radiation logs, neutron logs, temperature gradient and differential temperature logs, and bulk density logs, trenching, tunneling, and test mining. The economic analysis of exploration programs embodies bookkeeping, project cost forecasting and an economic analysis of alternate methods of exploration. The evaluation of individual phosphate properties includes such variables as geology, mining characteristics, alternate concepts in reserve calculation, transportation and governmental policies. The structural geology of the Dry Valley area is less complex than the structural geology of other phosphate deposits in the western phosphate field. Yet most structural features outlined by drilling in Dry Valley occur elsewhere in the western phosphate field. The stratigraphy of the Phosphoria Formation and its Meade Peak Phosphatic Shale Member is simple and correlatable throughout southeastern Idaho through the use of gamma-radiation logs. The history of land acquisition and property evaluation by FMC in Dry Valley covers a relatively short eight-year period. Future plans for companies operating in the western phosphate field include trading and selling of properties to build mineable units covering large volumes of the estimated 300,000,000 tons of economically surface extractable ore in the Dry Valley vicinity.

The North Park study area is mainly focused on the parks, recreation, and trails of two municipalities: North Logan and Hyde Park. These two municipalities have formed several partnerships to provide the police, fire, and other civic needs of the citizens of both communities. Coincidentally, these services have been given a name that combines the names of the two municipalities, North Park. However, this particular study area also includes small portions of land that are currently located in Logan City, Cache County, and the U.S. Forest Service. North Park is a beautiful area nestled on the east bench of Cache Valley. The majority of the area has remained undeveloped and relatively unchanged for the past 130 years. However, in recent years, the North Park area has experienced a large amount of growth and, with this growth, the existing community resources related to parks, recreation, and trails will need to grow accordingly. Consequently, a large amount of regional planning is needed between North Logan, Hyde Park, and the other governmental entities that make up the study area.

Building on previous work by Castells, and Adler and Brenner, I explore the public character of a lesbian concentration in the Connecticut River Valley region of Massachusetts. From the late 1980s this area has gained national media attention for its lesbian population. Using a number of data sources I examine how lesbian residences and services are distributed in the Valley. I find a strong service core in the small city of Northampton, but residences, while showing some clustering around Northampton, reach well into a rural hinterland. In these rural towns lesbians live at low physical densities while forming relatively high proportions of the towns' populations. Unlike previous studies of gay male and lesbian space that have tended to focus on center cities, this paper starts to chart this space on the low‐density, semirural edge of a metropolitan area. Previous studies of residential concentrations of gay and lesbian persons have also found highly visible gay male territories ‐ sometimes with a lesbian minority ‐ but showed lesbians forming social networks or somewhat underground concentrations. Several parts of the Valley area are different; comprising a visibly lesbian space. This paper contributes to analyses of diverse populations in contemporary metropolitan and exurban regions and to discussions of methods in research on lesbian and gay populations.

AbstractThe demographic expansion of cities in the Alto Valle and the regional tendencies for social practices of leisure and recreation, mark an increasing preference of population towards the surrounding rugged landscape and the consequent increase in the load pressure on semi-arid and sparsely anthropied environments of the south margin of the rivers Limay and Negro. As an example, it is enough to mention the practice of not regulated sport activities that are aggressive for environment, which contribute to accelerate erosion processes, loss of vegetation and soils, etc., while the unplanned urban development characterized by the lack of basic services in the suburbs, has led to a high rate of extraction of wood resources of the bush, the emergence of unauthorized micro rubbish dumps, greater frequency in the fire occurrence, etc.Given this context, the Rio Negro provincial government has materialized in 2010 an old regulation initiative aimed at sustainable management of those lands. This paper is a revised and shortened version of the biophysical studies of carried out as a part of the interdisciplinary technical reports for the "Management Plan of the Protected Natural Area (PNA) Cretaceous Valley" of the Rio Negro Province. The physiographic systems study shows that there is a marked susceptibility to the erosion processes increase, especially gully erosion. The natural vegetation, as a consequence of its physiognomic characteristics adapted to semiarid and mesothermal climate and of the historical social land use overloading , currently presents a low coverage, associated with low levels of soil aggregation. This presentation will invite viewers to the world of trade in North America between 1740 and 1780. In this period of both cooperation and tense competition, I will be examining how developments shaped the preferences of Iroquois traders in the Mohawk Valley of modern New York. Placed at the nexus of Iroquois, British, French, intertribal and intercolonial relations, this study will contribute to our understanding of commercial relations in 18th-century North America. I will focus on highlighting the agency of Iroquois traders navigating a rapidly changing economic landscape.
