Introduction. The national security of the Russian Federation, both within the country and externally, is ensured by the development of its military-technical potential. The military-technical potential is viewed as an ability of the state to maintain the armed forces and to provide the army with modern and competitive military equipment. This is performed through state defence orders (SDOs). Taking into account both internal and external factors, it is impossible to fulfil SDOs without a reliable system of contract liabilities. To ensure proper fulfilment of SDOs, it is necessary to consider the following measures: 1) to retain all the liabilities of contracts for the duration of the contracts, i.e. the liabilities of the customer with regard to the financing of SDOs, and the liabilities of the contractor with regard to the production of the military equipment of high quality; 2) to prevent unauthorised use of the financing provided for the SDOs. Purpose. The purpose of our study was to analyse the factors preventing the fulfilment of SDOs and suggest measures for improving the system for managing SDOs and the economic security of defence industry enterprises. Methodology. In our study we used general scientific methods and specific economic analysis methods: systems analysis, time series analysis, modelling, and expert evaluation methods. The analysis was based on Russian and international sources, as well as the regulatory and legal framework concerning SDOs. Results. In our study, we listed and classified the factors preventing the fulfilment of SDOs, and suggested a SDO model in the form of a system of financial relations between entities. To ensure the fulfilment of SDOs, we suggest a series of measures to control the compliance of financial flows and the economic security of defence industry enterprises. Conclusions. The article presents a specific study of financial flows between the key participants of SDOs. The determined problems and suggested measures will help to reduce the risks and ensure the proper fulfilment of SDOs.

We present the MMAD Repressive Actors Dataset (MMAD-RA). The MMAD-RA is a new data source that provides systematic information on the repressive actors present at protest events in autocracies, including their type, tactics, and level of violence. The data is temporally and geographically fine-grained, allowing for analysis between and within more than 60 countries from 2003 to 2012. The MMAD-RA enables analysis of the variation in repressive actors deployed to protests and their behavior, as well as how these actors impact protest dynamics and outcomes across political and socio-economic contexts. We believe the data will be a valuable resource for pushing forward research on how repressive actors engage with mass protests.

The paper examines the notion of constitutional identity in Italy, with the aim to question whether the highest constitutional authorities of the Italian state have identified a core or fundamental elements of the Constitution which define its individuality. By analyzing the words and deeds of the President of the Republic and the case law of the Constitutional Court the paper claims that these two supreme constitutional authorities always refused to identify a set of constitutional values which cannot be touched by the European Union (EU). On the contrary, the paper suggests that both the President of the Republic and the Constitutional Court have endeavoured to emphasize the axiological overlap between the Italian Constitution and the project of European integration, considering Italy's membership to the EU as the best way to fulfil the Constitution's mandate. As the paper maintains, the same approach is visible in the recent Taricco judgment of the Italian Constitutional Court: while in this reference to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) the Constitutional Court mentioned for the first time ever the words 'constitutional identity', its ruling was mostly grounded on the notion of common constitutional traditions. The Constitutional Court invited the ECJ to revisit a previous ruling, emphasizing how that substantially conflicted not only with Italy's Constitution, but also with the principles enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. As the paper suggests, therefore, the Italian case offers an example of a founding EU member state where no identity narrative has been developed as a defense against the EU.

The Ends of Life examines the ways in which English men and women between the early sixteenth and late eighteenth centuries sought to lead fulfilling lives. In doing so it illuminates the central values of the period, while at the same time throwing incidental light on some of the perennial problems of human existence.
