Promovidas como formas de diplomacia específicamente cultural que facilitan el entendimiento entre naciones, las exposiciones internacionales producen una rica y compleja red de intersecciones entre las personas, objetos, prácticas e ideas; como zonas de contacto móviles que atraviesan fronteras en contextos institucionales, culturales y políticos contrastantes, son un vehículo ideal para analizar varios tipos de encuentro intercultural. No obstante la importancia de esta clase de muestras, existe muy poca literatura al respecto. Este artículo presenta los resultados preliminares de una investigación de largo plazo en curso, cuyo tema es un intercambio museográfico internacional: la exposición organizada por México y Nueva Zelanda sobre los aztecas que se presentó en ese país y en Australia en el 2013 y 2014. Se utiliza un enfoque basado en una metodología múltiple para entender la manera en que tanto los visitantes como los profesionales de museos experimentan e interpretan los contactos interculturales en el contexto de esta exhibición internacional. Además de dar a conocer nuestras reflexiones del proceso, los retos y beneficios de conducir estudios interculturales, el artículo presenta los resultados preliminares de nuestra INVESTIGACIÓN, mismos que ilustran cuatro distintas perspectivas sobre la exposición. ; Promoted as forms of cultural diplomacy that facilitate understanding amongst nations, international touring exhibitions produce a rich and complex web of intersections between people, objects, practices and ideas. As mobile contact zones that cross borders between contrasting institutional, cultural and political contexts, these displays are an ideal vehicle for examining multi-layered forms of cross-cultural encounter. However, very little literature exists on this topic. This paper discusses an ongoing, long-term, transnational study of an international touring exhibition, which was part of the first ever exhibition exchange between New Zealand and México, and also travelled to two venues in Australia during 2013 and 2014. The study uses a multi-method approach to understand how both museum professionals and visitors experience and interpret cross-cultural contacts within the context of an international exhibition. The RESEARCH reflects on the process, challenges and benefits of conducting cross-cultural museum research, using an example that illustrates four different perspectives on one aspect of the exhibition.

This article explores ways in which insights developed within the field of Jewish geography raise important challenges both for the general history of religions and for more tightly focused studies of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican sacred space and architecture. Of particular concern are the ways in which Jonathan Z. Smith's exposure of the serious limitations of applying Mircea Eliade's famous model of sacred space to the specifics of Jewish sacred geography give Americanist scholars pause to reconsider the application of those familiar Eliadean categories to the case of the Aztecs' main temple and ceremonial precinct.

The fall of the Aztec Empire in 1521 was a surprising feat given the well-known, vast power, and fighting capabilities of the Aztec people. Many questions since then have arisen as to how such a mighty empire had so rapidly fallen. These theories hold implications that the Aztecs were victims to the incoming disease, famine, and domination inflicted by the Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortes. Alongside these proposals I suggest that by examining archaeological and historical evidence, the Aztec traditional practices were also responsible for its society's collapse. By identifying the significance of the human sacrifices, the cultural, political, and economical ramifications lead a straight line to the destruction of this massive civilization. Taking into account some major hypothesis in the causation of this society's downfall, I further examine the capabilities of Aztec technology and their possible weaknesses that may have suggested other factors contributing to their defeat. By exposing the causes behind the frequency and procedures with which the Aztec practices their rituals of human sacrifice, conclusions can be drawn about the cause of the fall of the Aztec empire.
