Testing and maintenance activities of safety equipment have drawn much attention in Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to risk and cost control. The testing and maintenance activities are often implemented in compliance with the technical specification and maintenance requirements. Technical specification and maintenance-related parameters, that is, allowed outage time (AOT), maintenance period and duration, and so forth, in NPP are associated with controlling risk level and operating cost which need to be minimized. The above problems can be formulated by a constrained multiobjective optimization model, which is widely used in many other engineering problems. Particle swarm optimizations (PSOs) have proved their capability to solve these kinds of problems. In this paper, we adopt PSO as an optimizer to optimize the multiobjective optimization problem by iteratively trying to improve a candidate solution with regard to a given measure of quality. Numerical results have demonstrated the efficiency of our proposed algorithm.

The nanoparticles exhibit the "quantum size effect". The average diameter of nanoparticles, as manifested in the photoabsorbtion threshold of colloidal semiconductors, increases as the water content of reverse micelles and the concentration of ø-state particles increases. The composition of mixed sulfides and water content (pool size) of inverted micelles can be varied systematically and the band gap energies of the semiconductor particles can be determined from photoabsorption threshold (edges). A method is proposed for determining the bulk optical dielectric constants of solid solutions of two semiconductor employing the Brus equations.

International audience ; En 2000, la loi " Solidarité et Renouvellement Urbain " (SRU) a encouragé le développement de syndicats mixtes de transport dit " SRU " sous une forme institutionnelle nouvelle pour favoriser la coopération entre Autorités Organisatrices de Transport (AOT) de différents niveaux. Une dizaine d'années après, cet article propose d'étudier ces structures syndicales pour tirer un bilan des situations existantes et ouvrir des débats sur l'application locale de la réforme. Devant le défi croissant de faire interagir les politiques urbaines au-delà des clivages sectoriels ou spatiaux, les syndicats mixtes de transport SRU constituent-ils un véritable enjeu pour une nouvelle gouvernance des mobilités, susceptible de mieux prendre en compte " l'interterritorialité " des enjeux contemporains ? Le premier bilan de l'étude des syndicats mixtes SRU témoigne de la souplesse de l'outil face à la diversité des situations locales. Ces syndicats apparaissent comme un fragile rouage de l'architecture interterritoriale malgré l'étendue des enjeux qu'ils portent en matière d'intermodalité et de " mobilité durable ". Il convient cependant de relativiser les interprétations par rapports aux récentes évolutions et créations de syndicats SRU non intégrées dans cette étude.

This presentation will summarise the experiences gained from a Legionella project within Nordic Sugar which emphasises risk evaluation, modern DNA analysis methods, control strategies and water treatment methods. The project started in 2002 with yearly campaign screenings for Legionella spp and Legionella pneumophila. Initially an ISO Legionella method for quantification was used, but this was replaced with a modern, rapid DNA-based Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction assay in 2005. The assay time for quantitative results using the Real Time PCR is approximately 3 hours compared to between 10 and 14 days for the ISO-method. All Nordic Sugar factories equipped with cooling towers are screened on a weekly or bi-weekly basis during every sugar campaign. Only one sugar factory has shown consistently positive results for Legionella pneumophila on a moderate level. A multiple biocide approach combined with a dispersing agent was successfully used to control the Legionella. In 2010 a non-chemical treatment method, Wallenius AOT-system was installed to eliminate an annual high cost for biocides. The system successfully controlled the L. pneumophila even when the cooling water was partially exchanged with fresh lake water.

Indoor Air quality (IAQ) in private or public environments is progressively recognized as a critical issue for human health. For that purpose the poor IAQ needs to be mitigated and immediate drastic measures must be taken. In environmental science and especially in advanced oxidation processes and technologies (AOPs-AOTs), photocatalysis has gained considerable interest among scientists as a tool for IAQ improvement. In the current study an innovative paint material was developed which exhibits intense photocatalytic activity under direct and diffused visible light for the degradation of air pollutants, suitable for indoor use. A laboratory and a real scale study were performed using the above innovative photo-paint. The lab test was performed in a special design photo-reactor while the real scale in a military&rsquo ; s medical building. Nitrogen Oxide (NO) and Toluene concentration was monitored between &ldquo ; reference&rdquo ; rooms (without photo paint) and &ldquo ; green&rdquo ; rooms (with photo-paint) in order to estimate the photocatalytic efficiency of the photo-paint to degrade the above pollutants. Results of the study showed a decrease up to 60% and 16% for NO and toluene respectively under lab scale tests while an improvement of air quality up to 19% and 5% under real world conditions was achieved.

ABSTRACTThere has been considerable conceptual and empirical progress on the measurement of rational thinking in adult samples. Studies in developmental samples have demonstrated that many of these domains and paradigms can also be assessed in children and youth, especially in adolescent samples. Here, we present an efficient rationality assessment battery for adolescents and youth—the Assessment of Rational Thinking for Youth (ART‐Y). The ART‐Y consists of five subtests: Probabilistic and Statistical Thinking, Scientific Thinking, Avoidance of Framing, Knowledge Calibration, and Rational Temporal Discounting. Two supplementary measures of thinking dispositions are included in the ART‐Y: Actively Open‐Minded Thinking (AOT) and Deliberative Thinking. The ART‐Y battery was examined in a sample of 143 adolescents (mean age = 15.4 years). The five rational thinking subtests displayed intercorrelations largely consistent with those obtained in the adult literature. Age, cognitive ability, problem solving, probabilistic numeracy, and thinking dispositions predicted variance differently across the five subtests of the ART‐Y, but again largely consistent with the adult literature. These measures, along with the ART‐Y subtests, were examined as predictors of two real‐world skills: financial literacy and academic achievement. Scientific thinking, knowledge calibration, and rational temporal discounting were significant unique predictors of financial literacy when statistically controlling for cognitive ability. Scientific thinking predicted academic achievement when statistically controlling for cognitive ability.

For the extraction of polychlorinated biphenyls a microemulsion consistmg of biological decomposable components is developed. The microemulsion remains stable at temperatures around 10°C. Therefore it is possible to use the microemulsion with its excellent extraction properties in the in situ soil remediation. The microemulsion system consists of equal amounts of water (with addition of calcium chloride) and rape oil methyl ester. Sodium bis (2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) and 2,5,8-trimethylnonylhexaglycolether(Tergitol TMN 6$^{®}$) are used as amphiphilic compounds. At low temperatures the undesired formation of liquid crystals in the microemulsion can be suppressed by increasing the electrolyte concentration in the water phase, but is leading to an unfavourable shift of the phase boundaries of the system. The substitution of a part of the nonionic surfactant by an ethoxylated castor oil suppresses the formation ofliquid crystals. The extraction performance of the microemulsion system is investigated with doped soils inbatch and glass column experiments. The results show that the contaminant is removed nearly completely from the arable soiL Extraction rate is lower on sandy soiL The microemulsion system can be splitted specifically into an oil phase and a water phase byincreasing the temperature. From the technical point of view he reuse of the water phase is uncritical, but legislative problems can arise.

A variety of laboratory tests were developed to obtain more reliable results of sperm evaluation and increase the accuracy of sperm fertility predictions. These tests detected damage of sperm specific compartments or organelles, which cannot be detected in routine sperm analysis. The use of fluorescent probes and detection using fluorescent microscopy or flow cytometry is an important tool but a more precise and accurate laboratory test is needed. Propidium iodide and 6-carboxyfluorescein diacetate are used for evaluations of plasmatic membrane integrity. Fluorescein isothiocyanate, associated with conjugated lecithin Psium sativum or Arachis hypogaea, are used for evaluations of acrosome integrity. Two probes, MitoTracker or Rhodamine123, are generally used to measure the absence or presence of mitochondrial potential. However, a better option is 5,5'; 6,6' - tetrachloro - 1,1'; 3,3' -tetraetilbenzimidazolil-carbocyanine (JC-1) dye, which assesses not only the presence of mitochondrial potential and distinguished spermatozoa with poorly and highly functional mitochondria. Two techniques, TUNEL or COMETA, and the Acridine Orange Test (AOT) dye are used to evaluate chromatin integrity. A fluorescence technique based on chlortetracycline (CTC) or Merocyanine 540 is used to estimate whether sperm pass by or through the capacitation process. This review focuses on the fluorescent probes that are most widely used to evaluate plasma membrane integrity, capacitation, acrosome integrity, chromatin integrity and mitochondrial potential.

Bien que le développement des transports en commun en site propre dans les grandes villes de province ait fortement revalorisé l'image de ce mode de transport, l'augmentation des coûts de production du service, la hausse modérée de la fréquentation et la faible contribution des usagers, conduisent à aggraver la charge récurrente de couverture des déficits d'exploitation pour les Autorités Organisatrices. L'hypothèse principale de cette recherche consiste à affirmer que c'est au niveau du design des réseaux que les gains potentiels seront les plus importants, comparativement à la maitrise des coûts unitaires de production ou à l'accroissement des tarifs. C'est la raison pour laquelle l'analyse de la performance doit être menée au niveau de chaque ligne, en recherchant les facteurs explicatifs d'une bonne efficience commerciale. Il reste cependant nécessaire de garder à l'esprit les « missions » confiées au transport public (rôle social, décongestion, amélioration de l'environnement, cohérence transport/urbanisme), afin de ne pas tomber dans une simple rationalisation économique qui serait contraire aux objectifs de politique publique visés par les AOT. Il est donc indispensable de coupler l'optimisation économique des lignes avec la notion d'efficacité, c'est-à-dire de degré d'atteinte des objectifs des politiques publiques. Ce rapport propose une méthodologie d'analyse de la performance des lignes de bus, sur la base d'indicateurs relatifs à l'offre, à l'efficience commerciale et à l'efficacité en termes de politiques publiques, afin d'aider à une certaine optimisation de l'offre sous contraintes.

Monitoring environmental parameters in urban centers has become a critical step for health risk assessment. In this study, conducted in the industrial park of Mirandela (Portugal), an environmental monitoring system consisting of a meteorological station, a class 1 smart sound sensor and three reference optical gas analyzers were deployed to measure noise levels, tropospheric ozone concentrations, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides, during winter and spring of 2019. The interdependence among all variables was evaluated, and legal compliance was assessed according to the European Union (EU) target values for ozone. Higher concentrations of nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide were observed during rush hours, while ozone concentrations increased as a consequence of the emissions of primary pollutants after sunrise reaching their maximum values at about 13:00 to 14:00h. Regarding the Accumulated Ozone Exposure (AOT), both target values set by the EU for AOT40 vegetation and forest have been exceeded. For AOT60, the observed values were below target; however, the threshold for NET60 was exceeded even before the end of 2019. Noise levels were higher during rush hours, because of higher traffic intensity; however, noise level indicators (Lden, Ln) remained within the legal limits. It was possible to realize that urban traffic is the most relevant source of noise and local air pollution. These results can be used to define strategies that may improve the environmental performance of the studied industrial park. ; La vigilancia de los parámetros medioambientales es una acción importante para la evaluación de riesgos para la salud en los centros urbanos. The relationships between urban forms and travel practices have always interested urban planners and transit specialists. In our study, we try to measure the specific impact of density on both travel practices and on the choice of public transport systems (and in particular reserved-lanes transport systems). The method of the study consists in testing several indicators of density and mobility and to assess the strength of the various correlations. At the same time, we rely on previous research works on the same topic so as to both guide and enrich our findings. The results show that the variable of density cannot entirely take account for travel practices or for the choice of a public transport system. Therefore, we will also present the main other variables that influence travel practices, and the main issues at stake when choosing for a reserved-laned transport system. The overall conclusions call the urge for a closer integration between urban and transport policies. ; L'impact des formes urbaines sur la mobilité a toujours préoccupé les urbanistes et spécialistes du transport. Dans cette étude, nous mesurons l'impact de divers indicateurs de densité sur d'une part les pratiques de mobilité (niveau de motorisation des individus, parts modales des transports collectifs et de la voiture) et d'autre part sur le choix d'un système de TCSP par les autorités organisatrices de transport. Les résultats sont construits grâce à des tests de corrélation entre variables, mais aussi alimentés par les précédents travaux de recherche sur les liens entre densité et mobilité. La mise en relief de l'influence de la densité mais aussi de ses limites pour expliquer ces phénomènes est l'occasion de souligner les autres facteurs déterminant les pratiques de mobilité et la complexité de l'environnement de choix pour les AOT lorsqu'elles se dotent d'un TCSP. L'ensemble des résultats abonde dans le sens d'une plus grande articulation entre politiques d'urbanisme et de déplacements.
