Wann, wo, wie, für wen und warum macht man Theater? Fünf leitende W-Fragen stecken in der aktuellen Buchpublikation von Eugenio Barba und Nicola Savarese die titelgebenden fünf Kontinente des Theaters ab. Das vorliegende Resultat – ein umfassender, großformatiger und an Bildmaterial reicher Band – der jahrzehntelangen Zusammenarbeit und intellektuellen Komplizenschaft zwischen dem Gründer des Odin Teatret und dem Theaterwissenschaftler erschien 2017 auf Italienisch und liegt inzwischen in englischer, französischer, rumänischer und spanischer Übersetzung vor. Ein Zitat von Eugenio Barba auf dem Umschlag der 2020 erschienenen französischsprachigen Ausgabe, das mit einem impliziten Verweis auf Paul Gauguins gleichnamiges Gemälde beginnt, lässt Ziele und Struktur der Publikation erahnen: "Woher komme ich? Wer bin ich? Wohin gehe ich? Um diese Fragen zu beantworten, müssen wir die unzähligen Formen, Erfahrungen, Überreste und Rätsel, die uns die Geschichte unseres Berufs vermacht hat, aus einer anderen Perspektive betrachten. Nur auf diese Weise können wir einen persönlichen Kompass bauen, um die fünf Kontinente unseres Berufs zu durchqueren […]". (Übers. LB) Die Beitragenden des Buchs stammen allesamt aus der italienischen Theaterwissenschaft und dem Umfeld des Odin Teatret, der ISTA bzw. der Fachzeitschrift Teatro e Storia. Neben den Herausgebern exemplarisch zu erwähnen sind Fabrizio Cruciani († 1992), Ferruccio Marotti, Ariane Mnouchkine, Franco Ruffini, Mirella Schino (die 2008 das Odin Teatret Archive gegründet hat), Ferdinando Taviani († 2020) und Julia Varley (seit 1976 Truppenmitglied des Odin Teatret). Savarese zeichnet in seinem Vorwort den über 20 Jahre umspannenden Entstehungsprozess des vorliegenden Buchs nach. 1996 wurde in Gesprächen mit italienischen Theaterforschenden der Wunsch ausgedrückt, das strukturelle und gestalterische Prinzip der seit 1983 mehrfach wiederaufgelegten, überarbeiteten und in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzten Anatomia del teatro von 1983 (dessen erneuerte Version den Titel L'arte segreta dell'attore. Un dizionario di antropologia teatrale trägt) aufzugreifen, um wiederum die Techniken von Akteur*innen zu studieren, allerdings unter einem veränderten Blickwinkel: Standen im Theateranthropologie-Lexikon körperlich-mentale Techniken und prä-expressive Qualitäten im Zentrum, widmet sich Les cinq continents du théâtre der Geschichte und Gegenwart von Theater aus der Perspektive der "techniques auxiliaires" (S. 7) der materiellen Kultur von Akteur*innen. Welche sind aber diese Hilfs- bzw. Nebentechniken? Es handelt sich um die strukturellen, organisatorischen, sozialen, räumlichen, ökonomischen, politischen Faktoren von Theaterarbeit, die im Buch auf transhistorische und transkulturelle Weise präsentiert werden. Les cinq continents du théâtre ist ein eigenwilliges Buch. Mit seinen ca. 1400 Abbildungen, seiner Gleichwertigkeit von aufeinander Bezug nehmenden Bild- und Textelementen, seiner Bibliografie, seinem Namens- und Stichwortverzeichnis ist das Ergebnis weder ein Lexikon noch ein Bildband oder ein theatergeschichtliches Handbuch. Raimondo Guarino wählt in seiner auf dem Buchdeckel zitierten Rezension den stimmigen Begriff Almanach, um die Zusammenstellung aus verschiedensten Textsorten, wissenschaftlichen Analysen, Dialogen, Chronologien, Anekdoten, Bildern und vielsagenden Bildlegenden zu kategorisieren. Sechs Kapitel ("Quand", "Ou", "Comment", "Pour qui", "Pourquoi", "Théâtre et histoire") und ihre insgesamt über 130 durchnummerierten Unterkapitel präsentieren auf mäandernde Weise Aspekte des Theaterschaffens weltweit. Das konsequent heterogene Bildmaterial im Buch umfasst u. a. Satellitenaufnahmen von Sonneneruptionen, Buster-Keaton-Filmstandbilder, Hoffest-Kupferstiche, Saalpläne, japanische Holzschnitte, historische und zeitgenössische Fotografien von (Toten-)Masken, prähistorischen Skulpturen, Lipizzaner-Dressur, balinesischen Neujahrsfesten, Eintrittskarten, Butoh-Tänzer*innen, Theaterbränden, Fronttheater, sowie Gemälde und Grafiken zu Publikums-Krawall, Schausteller*innen, Hinrichtungen, römischen Zirkuselefanten, sowie acht Seiten mit Sonderbriefmarken zu Ehren von Schauspieler*innen und Dramatiker*innen. Die Lektüre eines konventionellen theatergeschichtlichen Buchs suggeriere, so die Herausgeber, dass alles klar, quantifizierbar und in Form von Ursachen und Wirkungen beschreibbar sei, "[m]ais sous cette évidence rassurante coule une histoire souterraine que ne se laisse pas enfermer dans les interprétations linéaires élaborées a posteriori." (S. 10) Das erste Kapitel des Buchs widmet sich textuell und bildlich dieser unterirdischen Geschichte aus der Perspektive der Zeitlichkeit: Wann wurde und wird Theater gemacht? Markante Momente von zeitlicher Gebundenheit in der europäischen und internationalen Theatergeschichte werden skizziert, religiös-politisch motivierte Festkalender mit ihren kleinen oder größeren Zeitfenstern für Theaterpraxis beschrieben. Gemeinschaftliche Feste als Unterbrechung des gewöhnlichen Zeitverlaufs – Dionysien, Karneval, Narrenfeste – mit ihrem Simulakrum sozialer Unordnung finden im ersten Kapitel ihren Platz, sowie ein Panorama diverser Ursprungsmythen (Europa, Indien, China etc.) von Theater. Wann haben Menschen begonnen zu tanzen, zu repräsentieren, sich zu kostümieren und zu maskieren? Inwiefern sind Theater und Schamanismus, Halluzinationen, Trancezustände historisch miteinander verbunden? Der vermutliche "Bocksgesang" der antiken griechischen Tragödie wird im Sinne einer theateranthropologisch interessierten, alternativen Etymologie nach Vittore Pisani auf die illyrischen Wurzeln trg (Markt) und oide (Gesang) zurückgeführt. Diese Herleitung verknüpft die Ursprünge des westlichen Theaters mit einem konkreten Beruf – der Straßendichter, Rhapsoden, fahrenden Sänger – und bietet eine Verbindung zu den buddhistischen Erzählkünstlern zur Entstehungszeit dramatischer Kunst im asiatischen Raum. Es folgen historische Abrisse zur Entwicklung des Mäzenatentums, hin zum Bezahltheater (mit Verweis auf Raufereien um Gratis-Theaterkarten) und der Funktion von Impresarios (u. a. Domenico Barbaja, Lewis Morrison, Sergei P. Djagilew, Loïe Fuller, Max Reinhardt). Vier farbig unterlegte Seiten bieten eine "petite anthologie de la censure" (S. 44) mit Schlaglichtern auf ausgewählte Fälle, darunter Auftrittsverbote für Frauen, der Theatrical Licensing Act (1737), die Theaterzensur in Frankreich von der Revolution bis zu Napoleon, die kirchliche Zensur in Lateinamerika ab der frühen Neuzeit, das Kabuki-Verbot in Japan unter US-amerikanischer Besatzung nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs im Sinne der antimilitaristischen Umerziehungsideologie und die Anekdote der Rettung des Kabuki durch den US-Amerikaner Faubion Bowers. Das zweite Kapitel streift erneut die bereits erwähnten Genese-Mythen, die Entwicklungen von Berufsschauspiel und von Theater in Innenräumen, allerdings aus der Perspektive der Orte und Räume für Theaterpraxis. Wo finden Akteur*innen ihren Platz? In Baracken, Kellern, sogenannten Laboratorien und Ateliers, unter freiem Himmel, in Theaterarchitekturen, auf Straßen etc. Die erste Doppelseite des Kapitels zeigt eine suggestive Bilder-Montage, bestehend aus einer Saalansicht des Teatro San Carlo in Neapel, dem (bescheiden-funktionalen) Saal des Teatro Experimental de Alta Floresta sowie dem (repräsentativen) Teatro Amazonas in Brasilien, das laut Bildlegende 1896 eröffnet wurde, mit importierten Dachschindeln aus dem Elsass, französischen Textilien, Stahl aus England, Marmorsäulen und -statuen aus Italien. Die Autor*innen der folgenden Unterkapitel nehmen die Kreisform zum Anlass für Überlegungen und Bebilderungen zu Genese-Mythen, Stadtentwicklung, frühen Publikums-Konstellationen, Rundtänzen, antiken Theaterbauten. Mittels Freilufttheater, Bänkelsängern und Scharlatanerie wird die Entwicklung vom Verkauf von Produkten zum Verkauf von Aufführungen illustriert, gefolgt von Rückgriffen auf die Spielorte der frühen Neuzeit durch Vertreter*innen der historischen Avantgarden (u. a. Wsewolod Meyerhold, Jacques Copeau). In einer theaterhistorisch internationalen Rundumschau werden in Kürze die Spielorte mittelalterlicher Aufführungspraktiken sowie erste Theaterbauten in England, Frankreich, Spanien, Indien, Japan, China, den USA, Lateinamerika, Italien thematisiert, bis hin zur Entwicklung der Konvention der Guckkastenbühne bzw. des Rang-Logen-Theaters, basierend auf Renaissance-Interpretationen antiker Theaterbauten, und nicht auf den Spielpraktiken von Akteur*innen. Mirella Schino argumentiert, dass "das Theater im italienischen Stil [das Rang-Logen-Theater mit Guckkastenbühne, Anm. LB] als autonomes Denkmal seine Entstehung dem abstrakten Wunsch verdankt, bedeutungsvolle Orte für die ideale Stadt zu schaffen. Es entstand als eine Reflexion in Verbindung mit der Architektur – mit der Nostalgie eines Ursprungs im griechischen und römischen Theater – und nicht in Verbindung mit der Aufführung und der materiellen Kultur der Schauspieler" (S. 132, Übers. LB). "[l]e théâtre à l'italienne, en tant que monument autonome, doit sa naissance à un désir abstrait de créer des lieux signifiants pour la ville idéale. Il naît comme une réflexion liée à l'architecture et non au spectacle et à la culture matérielle des acteurs, avec la nostalgie d'une origine dans le théâtre grec et romain." (S. 132) Das dritte Kapitel fragt nach dem Wie. Wie wird man Akteur*in? Wie wird theatral agiert? Bücher für Akteur*innen, über Trainings- und Arbeitsmethoden seien "compagnons de voyage" (S. 158) und böten manchmal, wie z. B. Antonin Artauds Das Theater und sein Double, "des mots-talismans" (S. 158) die auf intuitive Weise bei der Orientierung helfen. Acht farbig unterlegte Seiten bieten eine Gegenüberstellung von "acculturation" und "inculturation" (S. 160) als mögliche Wege zum Theaterberuf, sowie einen Überblick zu Ausbildungsarten (Meister, Gurus, gegenwärtige Schauspielschulen und Theaterlaboratorien), Techniken und theateranthropologischen Ansätzen. Der Wandel der Techniken der Akteur*innen seit dem 19. Jahrhundert wird unter dem – in der deutschsprachigen Theaterwissenschaft wenig geläufigen – Begriff der "Grande Réforme" (erste Phase 1876–1939, zweite Phase 1945–1975) bearbeitet und illustriert. Eine umfassende Chronologie historischer Ereignisse und theatergeschichtlicher Wegmarken zeichnet Entwicklungen ab Richard Wagners Gesamtkunstwerk-Konzept nach, über die "fondateurs de traditions" (S. 169) zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts bis hin zu experimentellen Truppengründungen und Praktiken der 1970er-Jahre, im Zeichen eines Neuauslotens von retheatralisiertem, von der Literatur emanzipiertem, gattungsübergreifendem Theater. Das Kapitel befasst sich aber ebenso mit dem Naheverhältnis von technischem und ästhetischem Wandel, etwa im Fall des Bühnenlichts, sowie mit diversen Spielmodi (Clowns, Puppentheater, Maskentheater) und dem Spiel mit Requisiten (wobei das Taschentuch und der Stuhl jeweils eine eigene Bilder-Doppelseite in Anspruch nehmen), denn "[l]es objets possèdent l'acteur", sie sind "seine Prothesen, seine Auswüchse, seine Fesseln, die den Akteur dazu zwingen zu reagieren, das Gleichgewicht zu verlieren, zu übertreiben, zu vereinfachen" (S. 216, Übers. LB). Das Publikum steht im Zentrum des vierten Kapitels. Zuschauer*innen in allen Aggregatszuständen werden bildlich dekliniert: wartend vor der Aufführung, Schlange stehend, raufend, gähnend, weinend, enthusiastisch, als Attentäter. Verschiedene soziale Schichten als Zuschauer*innen und ihre jeweilige Sitzordnung (z. B. im Kolosseum, in einem Teehaus in Peking) werden beschrieben, sowie Verhaltensweisen von teilnehmendem Publikum im Karneval und als "spect-acteurs" (S. 288) bei Augusto Boal, aber auch die Sonderform des unfreiwilligen Publikums, etwa von Performances im öffentlichen Raum. Ein Exkurs zu Epidemien und Theaterpublikum – mit Verweis auf Pestepidemien zur Zeit der Entstehung von Berufsschauspiel in Europa – präsentiert das Foto eines Mundschutz-tragenden Publikums einer Aufführung in Taipei im Kontext der SARS-Epidemie 2003. Auch die Frage nach dem Theaterpublikum in politischen und sozialen Ausnahmezuständen wird beleuchtet, vom Fronttheater, Aufführungen in Gefangenenlagern, Gefängnissen, NS-Konzentrationslagern, bis zu aktuellen Fällen, u. a. 2015 im türkischen Flüchtlingslager Midyat und anlässlich einer Hamlet-Aufführung im Flüchtlingslager "La Jungle" in Calais 2016. Warum überhaupt Theater machen? Was ist der Motor dieses anstrengenden Tuns? Das fünfte Kapitel, eines der lesenswertesten des vorliegenden Buchs, beginnt mit dem Gemälde Die Gärtner von Gustave Caillebotte nebst Fotografien der mutwilligen Zerstörung von Theaterbauten und der Rekonstruktion von historischen Theatergebäuden, begleitet von einer Überlegung zur Gärtner-Metapher in Shakespeares Othello (der Körper als Garten, der Wille als Gärtner) und bei Rudyard Kipling (Gärtnerarbeit müsse oft kniend gemacht werden). Die ökonomische Begründung wird nahegelegt – denn europäisches Theater sei nicht aus dem griechischen Ritual entstanden, sondern auf italienischen Märkten des 16. Jahrhunderts. Hinweise auf ästhetische und vor allem ethische Beweggründe für Theaterschaffen im Zuge der "Grande Réforme" und die Utopie des "éternel premier pas" (S. 299) bilden die Basis für das umfangreichere Unterkapitel "Petite encyclopédie sur l'honneur de l'acteur" (S. 300), in welchem Individuen präsentiert werden, die inmitten von und trotz Diskriminierung, Sklaverei, politischer Unterdrückung und Verfolgung, sozialer Missstände als Theaterakteur*innen aktiv waren bzw. sind, u. a. Ira Aldridge, Patricia Ariza, Josephine Baker, Wsewolod Meyerhold, Norodom Bopha Devi, Hedy Crilla, die Moustache Brothers. Die Autor*innen gehen ebenfalls in Kürze auf Verbindungen von Sexarbeit und Tanz bzw. Schauspiel in verschiedenen Ländern ein, sowie auf Theater "in der Hölle" (Gulag, NS-Konzentrationslager), auf kolonialistische "Menschenzoos". Zwölf farbig unterlegte Seiten, betitelt als "Florilège sur la valeur du théâtre" (S. 324), überlassen schließlich Theaterleuten das Wort und geben Textauszüge von Adolphe Appia, Antonin Artaud, Julian Beck, Walter Benjamin, Augusto Boal, Bertolt Brecht, Peter Brook, Enrique Buenaventura, Jacques Copeau, Isadora Duncan, Hideo Kanze, Sarah Kane, Jewgeni B. Wachtangow, Ariane Mnouchkine und anderen wieder. Das Reise-Motiv bestimmt die anschließenden Unterkapitel, von den Fahrzeugen und Gepäckstücken reisender Truppen über die geografischen und kulturellen Reisen von Theatermasken, bis hin zu Reisen von Körpertechniken mittels Tourneen, Exkursionen, internationaler Streuung durch ehemalige Schüler*innen bzw. Flucht und Exil (illustriert durch eine Karte der zahlreichen Exil-Stationen Brechts 1933–1947). Beerdigungsprozessionen als letzte Reise sowie die Weitergabe und Übersetzung von Theatertechniken in Form von Büchern, Zeitschriften, Spiel- und Dokumentarfilmen beenden das Warum-Kapitel. Das sechste Kapitel, "Théâtre et histoire. Pages tombées du carnet de Bouvard et Pécuchet" (S. 370), dient primär der Wiedergabe von Bildmaterial, das durch seine Anordnung und Kontrastierung zum Sprechen gebracht wird: Internationale Briefmarken und (Presse-)Fotografien bilden die Basis für Doppelseiten zu Theater und Aufständen, Protestbewegungen, Kriegen, Theatermasken und Schutzmasken (Gasmasken, Sturmmasken, Maskierung als Anonymisierung bei Demonstrationen), Theatergebäuden und massiver Zerstörung durch Tsunamis oder Bomben. Theaterbrände, ikonografische und mediale Inszenierungen von Hinrichtungen, die Thematisierung des Holocaust auf der Bühne folgen. Anstelle von Theatergeschichte werden im Abschlusskapitel Theater und Geschichte (im Sinne von Teatro e storia) als Montage präsentiert. Die letzte Doppelseite ist schwarz unterlegt: Links ist ein Foto von Frauen mit Schminkmasken in El Salvador zu sehen, die gegen das herrschende Abtreibungsverbot protestieren, rechts ein Porträtfoto von Pjotr A. Pawlenski mit zugenähtem Mund, begleitet von einem Abschlusszitat von Barba. Es werde immer einige Personen geben, die Theater als Mittel praktizieren, um ihre eigene Revolte auf nicht zerstörerische Weise zu kanalisieren; Personen "die den scheinbaren Widerspruch einer Rebellion erleben werden, die sich in ein Gefühl der Brüderlichkeit verwandelt, und eines einsamen Berufes, der Verbindungen schafft" (S. 395, Übers. LB). Jedes Kapitel des Buchs wird eingeleitet von einem Dialog zwischen zwei Stellvertreter-Figuren von Barba und Savarese: Bouvard und Pécuchet. Es handelt sich um die Protagonisten eines posthum veröffentlichten satirischen Romanfragments von Gustave Flaubert – zwei Pariser Kopisten, die sich zufällig auf einer Parkbank kennenlernen und voller Enthusiasmus und Naivität ein gemeinsames Projekt in Angriff nehmen: aufs Land ziehen und Landwirtschaft betreiben. Als frenetische Leser wollen sie immer mehr erkunden und kultivieren ihr zerebrales und oberflächliches Wissen in den Bereichen Gärtnerei, Schnapsbrennerei, Chemie, Zoologie, Medizin, Archäologie, Politik, Gymnastik, Religion, Theater etc. Die Wahl dieser Stellvertreter durch die Herausgeber bringt eine durchaus sympathische Ironisierung ihrer Positionen und künstlerisch-wissenschaftlichen Biografien mit sich, aber auch eine verbesserte Zugänglichkeit für Leser*innen mittels der lockeren und teils amüsanten Dialoge. Die niederschwellige und im Konkreten fußende Methode der fünf W-Fragen als roter Faden für die Arbeitsweise am Inhalt und an der Struktur des Buchs, sowie die Wertschätzung von heterogenem Bildmaterial für die Erkundung von Theaterpraktiken machen Les cinq continents du théâtre für Forschende (insbesondere für jene, die mit Ansätzen von Barba/Savarese noch nicht eng vertraut sind), für Theaterpraktiker*innen und für Studierende zu einem ausgezeichneten Entdeckungs- und Orientierungsband.

Este artículo aborda los vínculos existentes entre la explotación de la mano de obra migrante y el desarrollo de la agricultura intensiva en la provincia de Huelva, España. El objetivo es describir cómo la apropiación explotación de la naturaleza humana y extrahumana (Moore, 2015) convergen en el cultivo de la fresa. Tomamos como punto de partida la teoría del capitalismo como ecología-mundo de Moore y la articulamos con las aportaciones del feminismo materialista y los análisis de la economía política sobre el continuum de control de la movilidad del trabajo en la historia del capitalismo. A partir de este posicionamiento teórico, analizamos el modo en que este cultivo extrae su rentabilidad de la asignación a circular de temporeras marroquíes empleadas a través del programa de migración temporal conocido como contratación en origen. Este programa permite al sector disponer de una mano de obra poco costosa y flexible que garantice la rentabilidad del cultivo, y que retorna a su país de origen al final de la temporada. Veremos que para ello se ha dirigido exclusivamente a mujeres con hijos pequeños a su cargo. La circulación entre país de origen y de trabajo de las jornaleras marroquíes y su adecuación a las exigencias del sector se fundan en las asimetrías de género, clase y etnia existentes. Concretamente, el programa implementa una doble dependencia de los hogares de trabajadoras hacia los ingresos de la temporada, por un lado, y hacia su participación en la economía doméstica, cuando regresan, por otro. Leemos esta subordinación de la reproducción por la producción como una apropiación de la naturaleza tal y como la define, de manera amplia, Moore. El artículo está basado en el material etnográfico recogido entre 2009 y 2012, y actualizado en 2019, en los lugares de vida y trabajo de las temporeras. Su estructura es la siguiente. En una primera parte se exponen las principales características de la producción de frutos rojos en Huelva. En un segundo momento, se describe cómo la contratación de temporeras marroquíes ha sido una estrategia del modelo productivo que había agotado los recursos presentes en el territorio. En la tercera parte, se abordan las consecuencias que el modelo de contratación en origen tiene sobre las condiciones de vida y trabajo de las temporeras y se describen los límites del programa que se está viendo cuestionado por la emergencia de movilizaciones y resistencias. ; The province of Huelva, in Andalusia (Spain), is the first strawberry exporting area in Europe. Based on an intensive use of inputs applied on sterilized land, this sector is an archetype of agricultural industrialization, marking the decisive influence of capitalist activity on the biosphere right down to the landscape. Considered red gold for decades, this monoculture entered into crisis in the mid-1990s. Despite the continuous increase in input costs, the price per kilogram of strawberries remains stable, with supermarkets and input suppliers controlling the agrifood chain. To maintain profitability, farmers have followed three strategies: increasing production per hectare through technical intensification of production, introducing new berries cultures, and making wages an adjustment variable. This last one, has been possible through the employment of a diversified migrant workforce. Since the 90's, various labor substitutions processes have resulted in a segmented labor market by origin, gender, migration status and work relationship. From the year 2000, an important part of the labor force have been women employed through a temporary migration program named contratacion en origen. Morocco has been the main country of recruitment since 2008. Besides Moroccan workers, the sector employs North and West African workers, with or without work permits, an important number of Eastern European workers coming seasonally through work agencies, and Spanish women workers, mainly in the packing stations. The rise of unemployment caused by the economic crisis limited the contratacion en origen between 2012 and 2017. However, this program is very appreciated by employers who have been demanding its reinstatement, as it guarantees a flexible and non-demanding labor force, available throughout the campaign, even if at certain times the work is scarce. In 2017, it was reactivated with more workers than ever. Based on qualitative material gathered between 2009 and 2012, and updated in 2019, we will address several dimensions of an agro-migration regime constitutive of this land designed by capitalist world-ecology. The paper will focus on the contratacion en origen held with Morocco since 2006. Financed by European Union money, this program aims to facilitate the movement of women workers who must return to Morocco after the season ends. To this end, a series of criteria are established based on racist and sexist stereotypes that define rural Moroccan women mainly as mothers and wives to justify their return to the country when strawberry season is over. To participate in the program, it is necessary to be a woman of rural and poor origin and to have dependent children under 14 years old. It means that capital accumulation in this agriculture is based on control over female farmworkers reproduction. Taking up the contributions of materialist feminism and cross-referencing them with political economy and world-ecology theory, we analyze this subordination of reproduction by production as an appropriation of nature as defined by Moore. Capitalist accumulation expands through commodity fronts (2015). Competition leads to a perpetual search for new territories - spatial or social - that have not yet been commodified and whose conquest opens new cycles of profitability. Capitalism appropriates these borderlands, reclaiming the free labor of women, nature and colonies (Mies, 1986) and justifying it by the fact that these cheap natures are objects that can be appropriated. Naturalization is the ideology that allows the material exploitation and appropriation of the "free gifts of nature". In this paper, we argue that, in intensive agriculture, accumulation is based on the exploitation of the web of life, embedded in control over the reproduction of female foreign farmworkers. We show how the imbrication between racism and sexism transforms Moroccan women into inputs for intensive agriculture and address the two dimensions of these power relations: their material appropriation and the ideology that identifies women and racialized people as nature that sustains the former. We analyze how borders implemented by the contratacion en origen mobilize gender and race to allow workforce exploitation. This temporary migration program is based on an economic articulation and a physical separation of the time-spaces of production and reproduction of labor power. Moroccan farmworkers are recruited as appropriated women (Guillaumin, 1992). It is because they carry out the bulk of domestic work, because they are materially involved in the rearing of children, and because this activity is considered their legitimate and main activity, that they are seen as ideal seasonal workers. That is to say, the women will work hard for their children that remain on the other side of the border and they will return home at the end of the season. The constraints implied by the process of recruitment are reinforced by a legal captivity induced by the fact that residence permits are linked to a specific employer. In addition to this juridical captivity, the confinement in the dwellings weakens these workers' capacity to negotiate their working conditions. The farms are often far from the villages. Isolation is increased by the fact that farmworkers generally do not speak Spanish and do not have any other means of transportation than the one normally provided once a week by the employer for shopping. The mechanisms of control over women's bodies and sexuality are furthermore mobilized to impose discipline and control over workers, as well as to avoid them leaving the Program. The stigma of the woman of bad life and the prostitute, attributed to those who go out at night or to those who leave the Program to stay irregularly in Spain, patrols the borders of temporary work. This system constructs a vulnerable labor force ready to accept the poor working and living conditions offered. However, as Burawoy (1975) pointed out, the interdependence between home and host countries and the separation of production and reproduction tend to erode over time, usually leading to resistance and eventual labor replacement. In 2018 the pact of silence regarding the living and working conditions of foreign seasonal workers was finally broken. The collective mobilizations of Moroccan seasonal workers were organized to denounce poor living and working conditions and the existence of sexual abuse. This questioned the core of a recruitment program that had been designed as an example of ethical and orderly migration for 20 years. At the end of the season, various actors also reported that a significant number of female workers had not returned to Morocco at the end of their contracts. We read these forms of collective and individual resistance as signs of the erosion of this program. We will have to wait to see the impact of these emerging acts of resistance.

Il presente lavoro di ricerca persegue l'obiettivo di delineare i caratteri della figura del consumatore e dell'evoluzione che lo ha interessato attraverso un'analisi della normativa europea secondaria e della giurisprudenza della Corte di Giustizia. Il Capitolo I ha ad oggetto le tappe principali e più significative della nascita ed evoluzione storica della politica a tutela del consumatore fin dalla Carta Europea dei consumatori del 1973, nella quale non solo si è definita per la prima volta la figura del consumatore ma sono stati elencati anche i suoi quattro diritti fondamentali: il diritto alla protezione e all'assistenza; il diritto al risarcimento del danno per la circolazione dei prodotti difettosi e per la diffusione di messaggi menzogneri; il diritto all'informazione e all'educazione e il diritto alla rappresentanza. Il momento di svolta si è avuto di lì a poco con l'approvazione, il 14 aprile 1975, della risoluzione del Consiglio, con la quale si è dichiarato l'intento della Comunità Europea di realizzare l'armonizzazione delle varie normative nazionali sul tema. Successivamente, se il Trattato di Maastricht ha consacrato come settore autonomo la politica di protezione dei consumatori, dedicando il Titolo XI alla "Protezione dei consumatori", il Trattato di Amsterdam ha, invece, introdotto la protezione dei diritti e degli interessi dei consumatori quale obiettivo immediato dell'Unione Europea. Dopo un'analisi storica del diritto dei consumatori, si tenterà un'analisi delle tecniche utilizzate a questo scopo dal legislatore europeo, dalla c.d. armonizzazione minima fino a quella "mirata". In una prima fase, il consumatore viene identificato esclusivamente quale mezzo attraverso cui raggiungere la piena realizzazione del mercato unico. Se, dunque, originariamente l'Europa ha guardato al consumatore come soggetto (razionale) semplicemente bisognoso di protezione, si è successivamente assistito ad un cambio di atteggiamento volto, invece, a considerarlo come "motore" del mercato interno. È in questo cambio di prospettiva che si inseriscono gli studi delle nuove scienze psicologiche e cognitive che hanno dimostrato i limiti cognitivi di cui soffrono gli individui. In particolare, il Capitolo II sarà dedicato all'analisi degli studi che hanno perseguito l'obiettivo di costruire un modello concreto di agente economico. Grazie ad essi si è potuto abbandonare il presupposto della teoria economica classica secondo cui il consumatore è un individuo razionale che, semplicemente, ha bisogno di essere informato. Ecco allora che la protezione dei consumatori passava (e passa tutt'ora) attraverso l'imposizione, a carico del professionista, di ingenti obblighi informativi, atteso che il consumatore sarebbe stato comunque in grado di gestire in maniera efficiente un enorme flusso di dati. Detti studi hanno contribuito alla nascita di un nuovo metodo di analisi, la Behavioral Law & Economics, che critica il modello dell'homo oeconomicus in quanto astratto e irrealistico. Secondo questo approccio, l'inefficienza non deriva solamente da asimmetrie informative ma altresì da una capacità non ottimale di elaborare le informazioni da parte degli agenti economici: l'individuo, anche avendo a disposizione tutte le informazioni necessarie su tantissimi prodotti o servizi, non è comunque in grado di sfruttarle interamente. Pertanto, nel Capitolo III, ci si chiederà se, tanto nel diritto europeo dei mercati quanto in quello dei contratti, risulti possibile affermare che il legislatore europeo abbia attinto ai risultati delle scienze comportamentali. In questo senso, la Direttiva 93/13/CEE in materia di clausole abusive nei contratti con il consumatore, considera non vincolanti per il consumatore solamente quelle clausole che non sono state oggetto di trattativa individuale e che determinano "un significativo squilibrio dei diritti e degli obblighi delle parti derivanti dal contratto". E' chiaro che tale normativa vuole proteggere non tanto il consumatore che non ha abbastanza informazioni ma quello che non può processarle tutte. Allo stesso modo, all'interno della normativa sulle pratiche commerciali sleali, previste dalla direttiva 2005/29/CE, si è perseguito l'obiettivo di reprimere gli abusi posti in essere dalle imprese attraverso l'utilizzo di tecniche di manipolazione o di pressione psicologica degli agenti economici. Da un lato, ai sensi dell'art.6 della direttiva in esame, sono considerate ingannevoli (e quindi vietate) tutte quelle pratiche commerciali che, in qualsiasi modo, possano ingannare il consumatore medio (anche se "l'informazione è di fatto corretta") spingendolo ad osservare un comportamento economico che non avrebbe altrimenti adottato. Dall'altro lato, ex art.8, vengono considerate aggressive quelle pratiche idonee a limitare considerevolmente la libertà di decisione del consumatore medio, non solo mediante molestie o coercizione ma anche attraverso "indebito condizionamento". Tale direttiva, se è vero che ha ad oggetto il consumatore "normalmente informato e ragionevolmente attento ed avvenuto" (considerando n. 18), fa riferimento altresì ai soggetti dotati di particolari fattori di vulnerabilità: a tal proposito, l'art.5 dispone che se la pratica è idonea ad influenzare il comportamento di un gruppo di consumatori "particolarmente vulnerabili a motivo della loro infermità mentale o fisica, della loro età o ingenuità", essa deve essere valutata in riferimento al membro medio del gruppo. Identico scopo, mutatis mutandis, ha anche la disciplina relativa all'etichettatura dei prodotti agroalimentari oggetto di disciplina da parte del regolamento (UE) 1169/2011. Il legislatore, consapevole che spesso il consumatore che acquista un prodotto alimentare non ha né tempo né le competenze tecniche per leggere e comprendere il significato di tutte le indicazioni apposte sull'etichetta di un prodotto, ha individuato non soltanto quelle indicazioni che devono necessariamente essere inserite sull'etichettatura (senza le quali si presume che il consumatore non sia messo nelle condizioni di poter assumere una scelta libera e consapevole) ma soprattutto le modalità di redazione delle stesse. All'interno poi delle direttive di settore si osserverà che l'Unione non soltanto ha iniziato a considerare anche categorie "speciali" di consumatori vulnerabili (si pensi al concetto di "povertà economica" nel settore energetico) oltre che a predisporre strumenti di protezione per i "clienti", indipendentemente dallo status o meno di consumatori. Si pensi, a titolo di esempio, alla direttiva in materia di mercati degli strumenti finanziari, c.d. MiFID II, che classifica i clienti in tre categorie, ciascuna con una diversa intensità di protezione. In particolare, la categoria considerata più debole risulta quella dei "clienti retail" che ha diritto ad una protezione più pregnante e intensa. Tale classificazione non è però rigida, atteso che si consente di chiedere ad essi di essere trattati come clienti professionali (finendo per godere così di un livello di protezione meno intenso) anche se la scelta deve essere sottoposta alla preventiva valutazione del professionista. Qui non si apprezzerà unicamente che la categoria di "cliente retail" non coincida esattamente con quella di consumatore, ma soprattutto l'attenzione del legislatore europeo ai risultati della Behavioural Finance per cui "gli investitori sembrano commettere sistematicamente errori, di ragionamento e di preferenze, difficilmente conciliabili con l'assunto di razionalità delle scelte". Queste considerazioni si concretizzano tanto nell'imposizione all'intermediario finanziario di obblighi di valutazione e categorizzazione del cliente in base alla sua concreta e specifica situazione finanziaria, quanto nella predisposizione del c.d. "questionario MiFID" che dovrebbe tenere conto, nella formulazione delle domande al cliente, dei bias cognitivi studiati dalle scienze comportamentali. La Sezione II del presente lavoro di ricerca persegue invece il precipuo intento di mostrare che la frammentazione della figura del consumatore non risulta essere un fenomeno esclusivamente europeo. In un'ottica comparativa con l'ordinamento giuridico americano, se è vero che in riferimento al mercato dei prodotti alimentari anche il legislatore statunitense si preoccupa di individuare le c.d. nutrition facts da apporre sull'etichetta, differente è invece la materia della protezione dei marchi. In particolare, quanto alle fonti normative, mentre in Europa la materia delle "indicazioni geografiche" viene disciplinata da una normativa appositamente predisposta (basti pensare al Regolamento (UE) 1151/2012), negli Stati Uniti non esistono norme ad hoc ma una pluralità di disposizioni previste in materia di marchi commerciali, concorrenza sleale e sicurezza dei consumatori. Essendo gli Stati Uniti il paese che più degli altri ha visto un aumento nell'utilizzo dell'e-commerce, il legislatore d'oltreoceano ha ritenuto recentemente di predisporre una diversa disciplina per tutelare il consumatore che acquista online. In particolare, il legislatore americano, attraverso l'adozione del SANTA Act e dello SHOP SAFE Act, ha voluto soprattutto garantire al soggetto che acquista sul market place, tutele più efficaci ed effettive contro le possibili lesioni causate dalla vendita di prodotti contraffatti o difettosi. La peculiarità di questo ordinamento è il sistema di c.d. responsabilità oggettiva del produttore, atteso che la parte lesa non deve dimostrare la colpa ovvero il dolo del produttore per poter ottenere il risarcimento del danno. Ove, tuttavia, il consumatore riesca a dimostrare l'esistenza anche dell'elemento soggettivo, non soltanto otterrà un risarcimento a titolo di compensazione per il danno patito, ma, in aggiunta, un quid pluris: i punitive damages. Infine, gli ultimi paragrafi del presente elaborato saranno dedicati allo studio del mercato bancario e della normativa antitrust: nel primo si osserverà come le esigenze di tutelare il risparmiatore americano, tipicamente inesperto, abbiano imposto la preferenza per strumenti di public enforcement, tra i quali spicca sicuramente la c.d. class action. Viceversa, nella normativa antitrust, al fine di far valere ed ottenere il risarcimento del danno da condotta anticoncorrenziale, risulta possibile individuare l'utilizzo di un sistema basato sul c.d. private enforcement.

The province of Huelva, in Andalusia (Spain), is the first strawberry exporting area in Europe. Based on an intensive use of inputs applied on sterilized land, this sector is an archetype of agricultural industrialization, marking the decisive influence of capitalist activity on the biosphere right down to the landscape.Considered red gold for decades, this monoculture entered into crisis in the mid-1990s. Despite the continuous increase in input costs, the price per kilogram of strawberries remains stable, with supermarkets and input suppliers controlling the agrifood chain. To maintain profitability, farmers have followed three strategies: increasing production per hectare through technical intensification of production, introducing new berries cultures, and making wages an adjustment variable. This last one, has been possible through the employment of a diversified migrant workforce. Since the 90's, various labor substitutions processes have resulted in a segmented labor market by origin, gender, migration status and work relationship. From the year 2000, an important part of the labor force have been women employed through a temporary migration program named contratación en origen. Morocco has been the main country of recruitment since 2008. Besides Moroccan workers, the sector employs North and West African workers, with or without work permits, an important number of Eastern European workers coming seasonally through work agencies, and Spanish women workers, mainly in the packing stations. The rise of unemployment caused by the economic crisis limited the contratación en origen between 2012 and 2017. However, this program is very appreciated by employers who have been demanding its reinstatement, as it guarantees a flexible and non-demanding labor force, available throughout the campaign, even if at certain times the work is scarce. In 2017, it was reactivated with more workers than ever.Based on qualitative material gathered between 2009 and 2012, and updated in 2019, we will address several dimensions of an agro-migration regime constitutive of this land designed by capitalist world-ecology. The paper will focus on the contratación en origen held with Morocco since 2006. Financed by European Union money, this program aims to facilitate the movement of women workers who must return to Morocco after the season ends. To this end, a series of criteria are established based on racist and sexist stereotypes that define rural Moroccan women mainly as mothers and wives to justify their return to the country when strawberry season is over. To participate in the program, it is necessary to be a woman of rural and poor origin and to have dependent children under 14 years old. It means that capital accumulation in this agriculture is based on control over female farmworkers reproduction. Taking up the contributions of materialist feminism and cross-referencing them with political economy and world-ecology theory, we analyze this subordination of reproduction by production as an appropriation of nature as defined by Moore. El objetivo es describir cómo la apropiación-explotación de la naturaleza humana y extrahumana (Moore, 2015) convergen en el cultivo de la fresa. Tomamos como punto de partida la teoría del capitalismo como ecología-mundo de Moore y la articulamos con las aportaciones del feminismo materialista y los análisis de la economía política sobre el continuum de control de la movilidad del trabajo en la historia del capitalismo. A partir de este posicionamiento teórico, analizamos el modo en que este cultivo extrae su rentabilidad de la asignación a circular de temporeras marroquíes empleadas a través del programa de migración temporal conocido como contratación en origen. Este programa permite al sector disponer de una mano de obra poco costosa y flexible que garantice la rentabilidad del cultivo, y que retorna a su país de origen al final de la temporada. Veremos que para ello se ha dirigido exclusivamente a mujeres con hijos pequeños a su cargo. La circulación entre país de origen y de trabajo de las jornaleras marroquíes y su adecuación a las exigencias del sector se fundan en las asimetrías de género, clase y etnia existentes. Concretamente, el programa implementa una doble dependencia de los hogares de trabajadoras hacia los ingresos de la temporada, por un lado, y hacia su participación en la economía doméstica, cuando regresan, por otro. Leemos esta subordinación de la reproducción por la producción como una apropiación de la naturaleza tal y como la define, de manera amplia, Moore. El artículo está basado en el material etnográfico recogido entre 2009 y 2012, y actualizado en 2019, en los lugares de vida y trabajo de las temporeras. Su estructura es la siguiente. En una primera parte se exponen las principales características de la producción de frutos rojos en Huelva. En un segundo momento, se describe cómo la contratación de temporeras marroquíes ha sido una estrategia del modelo productivo que había agotado los recursos presentes en el territorio. En la tercera parte, se abordan las consecuencias que el modelo de contratación en origen tiene sobre las condiciones de vida y trabajo de las temporeras y se describen los límites del programa que se está viendo cuestionado por la emergencia de movilizaciones y resistencias.

Throughout the history of contemporary feminism, women's presence in the public sphere has been a perennial issue, demanding all sorts of strategies to promote women's inclusion in the economic and political arenas. Starting in the 1980s, feminist scholars in International Relations have questioned the absence of women in the international arena, alongside the pervasive gender hierarchies of the international system. Not only was it that women had been systematically excluded from politics, but the scholarship in IR had largely ignored feminist claims about the gendering of international politics. Largely animated by feminist movements and the nascent feminist debates in IR, the World Conferences on Women (1975, 1980, 1985, and 1995) stressed the paramount need for taking women's demands seriously. Such demands encompassed social, economic, and political domains, echoing decades of feminist struggles in the first, second and third worlds. The United Nations played a crucial role in fostering an agenda of gender equality and women's rights as human rights, which have been a quintessential part of the Millennium Development Goals and, more recently, the Sustainable Development Goals. Furthermore, gender-oriented policies have been promoted in myriad UN agencies and international organisations, such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Despite all these efforts purporting to raise awareness about gender equality and women's rights, as well as about the need for more inclusive policies for women in the international arena, women's presence in international fora as leaders has been remarkably low. As for the United Nations, until now no woman has been elected to the organisation's highest post, that of secretary general, and only recently the International Monetary Fund and World Bank have had female managing directors. These sobering results show a different picture of international organisations that promote gender equality as their political and social commitment, whilst failing to comply with the very same discourse when it comes to women's leadership in their formal structures. In this context, the present article aims to assess quantitatively and qualitatively women's presence in leadership roles at the United Nations and international economic organisations (namely, the IMF, WB and World Trade Organisation). It departs from the following research question: What is the current state of affairs of women's participation in the highest posts of the United Nations and the international organizations of the global economic system? Methodologically, we resort to descriptive statistical data of women's presence at various agencies of the United Nations and the aforementioned economic institutions from 1990-2018. Of greatest concern will be those occupying the posts of presidency and vice-presidency. Counting women is a traditional approach in feminist studies in IR, and it is a paramount step in making women count. The second goal of our paper, thus, derives directly from the data: by mapping the few women occupying positions of leadership in international organisations, we can assess the gender structures operating to the disadvantage of women. In order to do so, we resort to feminist theories as developed in political science and IR, for they provide the conceptual tools to provide data with meaning. We focus primarily on how gendered institutions confine women to specific gendered roles that emanate from the private sphere of domesticity. This means that women suffer from various exclusionary dynamics: firstly, they are excluded from leadership roles for the fact of being women; secondly, the few who manage to break through the glass ceiling of a masculine international arena are assigned positions that mimic the elements of the private sphere. Frequently, female leaders are responsible for social issues, childhood, food security, education, and culture, all of which are labeled as soft issues, or belonging to the domain of low politics. Feminist IR scholars have extensively denounced these gendered structures as part of how men preserve their privileges under the framework of hegemonic masculinity. Therefore, we draw on the work of several IR feminists who are concerned with the theoretical questioning and empirical unravelling of such gender hierarchies to interpret our data beyond the mere counting of women. We contend that women in leadership roles in the United Nations and international economic organisations more frequently occupy portfolios that are seen as soft issues or low politics. Likewise, these roles are often associated with the care for others, which reinforces gender roles and hierarchies. Women are more likely to occupy the presidencies and vice-presidencies of agencies such as UNICEF, UNESCO, WFP, and OHCHR, all of which deal with issues associated with childhood, education, culture, food security and human rights. We conclude that an apparent glass ceiling – the invisible barrier that prevents women from reaching higher and more prestigious posts in their professional careers – still remains in international institutions, limiting the participation of women in decision-making fora. The few female leaders who manage to reach the highest posts in the international arena are more likely to be exceptions of a pervasive phenomenon of gender inequality and lack of representativeness. The discourses embraced by the United Nations and international economic organisations fail to meet the minimal criteria for gender parity within these organizations' structures, and even where women have been assigned leadership roles, gender stereotypes still prevail. Further evidence revealed in our research refers to the regional representativeness of the few female leaders in these international organisations: about 55% of them come from Western Europe and North America. Latin American and African women are strongly underrepresented in the United Nations system, as well as in the Bretton Woods institutions, which is itself problematic because the particular perspectives of women from the Global South are also excluded from debates in these international fora. Therefore, international organisations also face the challenge of fostering the diversity of feminist perspectives by developing strategies to include Global South women in their formal structure, ideally as leaders. In this sense, our paper draws attention to the importance of pluralism not only in terms of gender parity, but also of a feminist worldview. In order to make women count in the international arena, the United Nations and international economic organisations have to fully commit themselves to concrete policies for women's inclusion, not only as heads of the institutions, but also in lower hierarchies where policies are designed. Only by acknowledging that women's perspectives matter, can we achieve the goals of gender equality. ; Aunque el debate sobre la presencia femenina en los espacios políticos haya empezado antes de los años setenta del siglo veinte, el contexto de las Conferencias Mundiales sobre la Mujer profundizó las demandas de las mujeres en distintos dominios, entre ellos la participación en las esferas políticas y de decisión. Las Naciones Unidas han fomentado discursos sobre el empoderamiento de las mujeres y su participación activa en roles políticos, reconociendo que la paridad de género en la política es un objetivo esencial para alcanzar la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres. Sin embargo, la propia organización no cumple su discurso: hasta el presente momento, no hay registros de mujeres que hayan ocupado el cargo de secretaria general y pocas ocupan otros cargos en la organización. Un escenario semejante se observa en las demás organizaciones internacionales, nombradamente las que se ocupan de temas económicos, considerados de alto prestigio en la arena internacional. En este artículo, nuestro objetivo consiste en investigar la presencia femenina en los órganos de Naciones Unidas y organizaciones económicas internacionales. Tal investigación se centra en dos enfoques: por un lado, contabilizamos la presencia feminina en distintos organismos a lo largo de tres décadas, siguiendo un abordaje tradicional de los estudios de género: counting women to make women count; por otro lado, utilizamos los datos recolectados para evaluar cómo las estructuras de género en los organismos internacionales operan en detrimento de las mujeres. Para esto, iniciamos con la siguiente cuestión: ¿Cuál es el actual estado de participación de las mujeres en los más altos cargos de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas y de los organismos del sistema económico global? Para responder a esta pregunta, estructuramos en artículo en cuatro secciones. Primeramente, presentamos el contexto de la presencia feminina en las organizaciones internacionales y de las Conferencias Mundiales sobre la Mujer. Enseguida discutimos los ejes teóricos que informan nuestras interpretaciones. Adoptamos una perspectiva teórica feminista que dialoga con los principales ejes conceptuales manifestados en las disciplinas de Relaciones Internacionales y Ciencia Política. En la tercera sección, discutimos nuestro diseño metodológico de investigación. En la cuarta sección, presentamos datos estadísticos del sistema de Naciones Unidas y de instituciones económicas internacionales entre 1990-2018 acerca de la participación de las mujeres en los cargos de presidencia y vicepresidencia de órganos y organismos especializados, argumentando que la presencia de mujeres en dichos espacios sigue baja. Las teorías feministas nos permiten evaluar la presencia más allá de los datos cuantitativos, ofreciendo una lectura acerca de los roles esperados de las (pocas) mujeres que ocupan espacios de liderazgo en las organizaciones internacionales. Verificamos que las mujeres suelen ocupar cargos asociados a temas de la baja política y el cuidado, como los asuntos sociales, de infancia y alimentos, lo que refuerza roles y jerarquías de género. Además, los datos demuestran que las pocas mujeres que ocupan estos cargos provienen principalmente de América del Norte y Europa Occidental, lo que per se limita las perspectivas feministas que acceden a las agendas internacionales.

Apart from evoking accent-based stereotypes, non-native speech has been found to pose threat to intelligibility and overburden listeners with additional cognitive load which may evoke their irritation (Johansson 1975; Kelly 2000; Munro 2003; Lippi-Green 2012; Moyer 2013). The paper discusses the notion of communicative responsibility defined as speaker's effort to overcome the undesirable consequences of foreign accent for the sake of efficient conveyance of relevant message. Five religious lectures (amounting to 5hrs of audio-visual material) delivered in Polish-accented English are discussed with respect to the speaker's non-native pronunciation and his morally motivated effort to convey the message precisely despite phonetically deviant speech. The shortcomings of non-native pronunciation are anticipated and targeted by preventive strategies, such as disambiguation, frequent repetition and use of emphatic stress to highlight the most relevant information, eliciting direct feedback from the listeners, monitoring their non-verbal responses, as well as the employment of enhancing devices, such as gestures. ; agabryla@gmail.com ; Agnieszka Bryła-Cruz is an Adjunct Professor at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland. The Third Reich towards the Church in Upper Silesia. Fr Jan Macha (1914-1942), martyr of the Christian charity. Upper Silesia is a unique part of Europe and Poland. In the past centuries, this region changed its nationality several times. It is a region with a very complex history. What remains unchanged is the faith standing by the Catholic Church and Christian values. During the Second World War, many inhabitants of Upper Silesia were persecuted by the Nazis. Among them there were many clergymen from the diocese of Katowice. One of them is Rev. Jan Macha, who for his commitment to charitable activities for suffering people, was arrested by the Germans, tortured, and at the end guillotined in the prison in Katowice. ABSTRACT The main objectives of this study is to determine the interactions between deposit interest rates, foreign exchange rates and stock market index (LQ45) in Indonesia pre and post crisis 2008. The data period before the crisis is October 2000 until November 2008. The data period after the crisis is December 2008 until December 2015. Descriptive quantitative analysis is used in this research. Descriptive analysis method is performed by using analytical table and graphic. Quantitative analysis method is performed by making a regression equation econometric model with time series method to describe the presence or absence of the influence of the independent variable towards the dependant variable. The result showed that during the pre crisis 2008, unidirectional causality existed from Deposit Interest Rates towards Foreign Exchange Rates, Stock Market Index (LQ45) towards Deposit Interest Rates, Deposit Interest Rates towards Stock Market Index(LQ45), and Stock Market Index (LQ45) towards Foreign Exchange Rates. The result post crisis 2008 showed that unidirectional causality existed from Foreign Exchange Rates towards Deposit Interest Rates, Deposit Interest Rates towards Foreign Exchange Rates, and Stock Market Index (LQ45) towards Foreign Exchange Rates. It is found that the direction of causality between the three variables tends to demonstrate a hit-and-run behavior and changes according to the lag selection. This implies that great caution should be taken when interpreting granger causality result. The behavioural location theory emphasises high importance of the limited rationality and the subjective perception of space in selecting of the location for a business activity. The article discusses key competencies from the scope of behavioural location theory. Ac-cording to the Authors, the behavioural location theory is rather complementary than competitive in relation to the neoclassical or modern approach, as it allows to explain the deviations of the decision-makers from the optimisation behaviour.

Business location theory has already been discussed in this journal in various contexts, for example in articles by H. Godlewska-Majkowska, K. Kuciński, A. Rutkowska-Górak, A. Kałowski. However, to our knowledge, the behavioural approach has not yet been presented here and we would like to fill the gap and offer a review of selected authors' works and concepts from this field and hopefully inspire other scholars to develop this promising research direction. In addition, a quantitative analysis of publications on behavioural location theory will be presented.

For the purposes of this article we will define the behavioural location theory as the inclusion of psychological and subjective circumstances of the decision makers into location theory, such as bounded rationality, heuristics usage and subjective spatial perception.

The behavioural approach seems underutilised in location theory despite its potential to explain many of business location decisions which are inconsistent with the profit maximisation principle. According to R. Domański [1995]: so far it has not been satisfactorily examined how the perception of space influences spatial behaviour of people. Nobody objects that many decisions, at least in part, depend on how people perceive the space surrounding them, how they differentiate it and what value they place on different elements of this space.According to W. Dziemianowicz [1997]: the assessment of location factors by decision makers most often depends on specific qualities of the business and qualities of the decision maker. Surprisingly, decades have passed since last important contributions in the field of behavioural location theory.

Location theory has its roots in XIX century, when J.H. von Thuenen offered the agricultural activity location theory in 1826. The interest in location theory revived more than 50 years later, mainly thanks to the works of W. Launhardt [1882] and A. Marshall [1886]. Important dates are also 1909, when A. Weber developed his industrial location theory and proposed the notion of a location factor and 1933, when the first theory of services location emerged, authored by W. Christaller.

Then the development of location theory accelerated, with contributions of such authors as A. Loesch [1939], F. Perroux [1964] or P. Krugman [1991]. It can be argued that thanks to P. Krugman location theory entered the mainstream economics, which neglected spatial issues for a long time.

Different location theory traditions put the emphasis on different aspects. For example, classical approach theorists indicate minimising production cost as the goal of the location decision maker while behavioural approach suggests satisfactory choice as a goal. According to H. Godlewska-Majkowska, there are five approaches to location theory: classical, neo-classical, structural, behavioural and contemporary. Their focus points are briefly explained in Table 1.

There are three similar but distinct terms related to the business location choice: • location factors – specific qualities of particular places which have direct impact on investment volume during building of the company's plant (plants) and the net profitability of business activity run in those places [Godlewska-Majkowska, 2001],
• location virtues – specific qualities of places which contribute to it that identical investments will differ depending on location in terms of investment volume, total production cost, sales revenue and taxes [Godlewska-Majkowska, 2015],

ocation circumstances – internal and external phenomena which transform a location virtue into a location factor. Internal phenomena can be for example: industry, size and ownership structure of the business. External phenomena include among others economic, environmental and cultural issues [Godlewska-Majkowska, 2013]. Clearly, location requirements are different for various sectors. Therefore, location factors are divided into general (those applying to all or many sectors) and sector-specific (those applying to one or few sectors).

There are also other classifications of location factors. The importance of subjective factors in the location choice is reflexed in the classification by Grabow et al. [1995] into soft and hard location factors, on the basis of H. GodlewskaMajkowska [2015]. Hard factors are more traditional, have direct influence on business activity and are easily measurable, while soft factors have indirect influence on business activity and are difficult to quantify.

It is worth to note that authors of this classification consider both kinds of factors as equally important and find even the soft factors as ones, which can be parametrised, measured and compared. Figure 1 presents the classification in a more detailed way.

In our view, Grabow et al. [1995] showed an excessive scepticism when it comes to measurability of some factors. For example, the local government attitude towards investor may be measured by places in investment attractiveness rankings, such as 'Gmina na 5!' conducted every year by Institute of Enterprise at Collegium of Business Administration at Warsaw School of Economics. Apart from it, the classification should be considered to be validated as more than 20 years had passed since its publication and made more precise, because as H. GodlewskaMajkowska [2015] points out, some factors seem to overlap – social climate is presented as separate factor than local government attitude towards investor, but in fact the former includes the latter.

Each business has to choose its location and the effect of business location selection is called location decision. Location decision may be the result of a more or less formal procedure. There is a consensus among scholars that business location decision is important for entity's economic performance. At the same time, it is acknowledged in the literature that subjective factors (such as bounded rationality) play a non-negligible role in location choice. As R. Domański [2004] outlines, location decision makers usually have limited knowledge and incomplete information and in many cases the decision maker does not behave like the homo oeconomicus. Sometimes he has limited or biased information about his decision situation and at the same time he assessed the incomplete information in a subjective way.If the situation is complicated, he has to simplify it by using intuitional rules in decision making. He does not try to achieve the optimal result but rather a satisfactory one. Such statements suggest R. Domański finds bounded rationality model convincing.

According to classical, neoclassical and contemporary business location theory the decision maker undertakes the optimal choice, while heterodox approaches such as behavioural location theory claim making an optimal choice is impossible. The classical, neoclassical and contemporary theorists assume decision makers are homo oeconomicus, a person with perfect information about the present and the future, able and willing to make complicated calculations and not prone to psychological biases.

Behavioural economics accepts different set of assumptions about the human nature: limited (imperfect) knowledge of the decision maker, limited ability to process the knowledge and searching for satisfactory result rather than optimal. Decision maker who behaves in line with those assumptions is purposefully called homo satisfaciendus.

Homo satisfaciendus is the concept of decision maker used in the bounded rationality model created by H. Simon [1955], which is fundamental for behavioural economics, including behavioural location theory. In the model it is assumed that the decision makers do not aim to maximise utility from choice made (making an optimal decision) but rather search for a good enough (satisfactory) option and once they find such an option they also stop search. In practice, it means that typically a decision maker will accept the first location that meets his minimum criteria, the so called aspiration level and will not even check alternative locations. Simon points out that people may use so called heuristics, which are decision making patterns simplifying their decision problems but he did not elaborate on it.

The gap has been filled by D. Kahneman and A. Tversky [1975] who singled out three famous heuristics: availability, representativeness and anchoring. H. Godlewska-Majkowska [2016] argues that such heuristics are used to assess location virtues of places which a location decision maker had visited within business location decision making process.

The bounded rationality model has served as the basis for the A. Pred [1967] behavioural matrix, which linked information availability, investor's information processing ability and profitability of chosen business location. The general rule is that the more information (or information processing ability) one has, the more profitable location one chooses, caeteris paribus. An adapted version of Pred matrix is presented in Figure 2. Point A represents homo oeconomicus, who has perfect information and perfect ability to use it, so he or she will choose the optimal location. All other decision makers make suboptimal decisions and the extreme is reached in point B, where the decision maker has little information and low ability to process it, so he or she will choose a poor location that may result in a loss.

Additionally it is acknowledged the influence of the politic of trade and its effects, as measures compelled to decrease the importations and those rules destined to promote exportations, this paper reviews the evolution of this politic in the period between 1990 until 2015; and a synthesis of the final agreements in Colombia. Finally the behavior of the industrial sector exportations is presented, taking in consideration the exportation data from 1991 to 2015 and importations from 1993 to 2015 (information provided by the Tourism, Industry and Trade Ministry). In the mean it is concluded the value of exportations and importations in the national economy, its representative influence in the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and the BOT (Balance of Trade).

Tesis descargada desde TESEO ; Durante muchos años, las personas lesbianas, gays y bisexuales (LGB) han sido víctimas de un proceso de estigmatización, llevado a cabo por parte de la sociedad en su conjunto, por no alinearse con los modelos afectivos heterosexuales y por salirse de lo que se ha denominado Heteronormatividad (Losert, 2008; Warner, 1991). Este concepto hace referencia a aquel conjunto de normas sociales que establece la heterosexualidad como la norma a seguir. Ser LGB no sólo era perseguido por parte de la sociedad, sino también por parte de la comunidad científica y sólo en 1975 la Asociación Americana de Psicología (APA ¿ American Psychological Association) eliminó la homosexualidad del ¿Manual de Diagnóstico de los trastornos mentales¿ (DSM), mientras que se tendrá que esperar hasta el 1990 para que la Organización Mundial de la Sanidad (OMS) deje de etiquetar las orientaciones sexuales no heterosexuales dentro de las enfermedades psíquicas. Desde entonces han transcurrido casi tres décadas y se han sucedido numerosos cambios a nivel legislativo y social en muchos países occidentales, entre ellos, España. El reconocimiento del matrimonio entre parejas del mismo sexo y la posibilidad de adoptar niños/as (Ley 13/2005), tras numerosos años de lucha de los movimientos LGTB, ha representado una etapa fundamental para el reconocimiento de los derechos de dichos colectivos. Sin embargo, este importante cambio ha encontrado las resistencias provenientes de algunas franjas conservadoras de la sociedad, que tras la aprobación de la Ley 13/2005 presentaron un recurso sobre la constitucionalidad de dicha ley. Después de varios años de incertidumbre en los que vivieron las parejas LGB que habían contraído matrimonio, en 2012 la Asamblea Constituyente se pronunció favorablemente sobre la validez del matrimonio entre las parejas del mismo sexo. Los cambios legislativos, por un lado, son el resultado de una reflexión que se produce a nivel social y, por otro lado, de un diálogo entre las instituciones y la sociedad. La modificación del marco normativo nació en respuesta a las reivindicaciones de los colectivos LGTB, pero también como consecuencia del cambio de actitudes por parte de la sociedad hacia dichos colectivos. Hoy en día, la discriminación por orientación sexual es considerada inaceptable en España y en muchos países occidentales. Este cambio en las actitudes de la gente ha permitido la desaparición de muchas formas de discriminación, sobre todo las de carácter explícito. Despidos irregulares, agresiones físicas o insultos se han convertido en hechos menos comunes, aunque sigan existiendo brotes discriminatorios por parte de algunas franjas de la sociedad. Por otro lado, investigaciones anteriores nos revelan que el proceso de eliminación de las actitudes negativas hacia un determinado colectivo a nivel individual requiere tiempo y que éstas pueden volverse implícitas de forma inconsciente, afectando las respuestas comportamentales de los individuos (Dovidio, 2001; Dovidio, Gaertner, Kawakami y Hodson, 2002; Jones, Peddie, Gilrane, King y Gray, 2013). Aunque se haya avanzado mucho en términos de derechos adquiridos por parte de las personas LGTB, los prejuicios y estereotipos negativos hacia dichos colectivos podrían estar afectando su vida personal y laboral de forma muy sutil (e.g., a través de comportamientos incívicos en el trabajo). Teniendo en cuenta el escenario previamente dibujado, la presente tesis doctoral tiene como objetivo analizar la experiencia de las personas LGB en los contextos laborales españoles, considerando, a su vez, las peculiaridades del contexto socio-cultural en el que nos encontramos. La relevancia de esta tesis nace, en primer lugar, de una carencia de investigaciones sobre las personas LGB en el contexto de trabajo español. Estudios anteriores desarrollados en España se han centrado en ámbitos de vida distintos al laboral, como el contexto familiar (Gonzalez, Díez, López, Martínez y Morgado, 2013; González, López y Gómez, 2010; Pichardo, 2011), enfocando la atención en los prejuicios hacia los colectivos LGB (Quiles del Castillo, Betancor, Rodríguez, Rodríguez y Coello, 2003) y en los estereotipos (Guasch, 2011). Además, varias investigaciones han analizado de qué manera las personas LGB se han visto afectadas en su vida cotidiana por las normativas vigentes desde la dictadura franquista (Olmeda, 2004; Osborne, 2012). En segundo lugar, a pesar de la laguna detectada en este sentido, los datos proporcionados por las encuestas europeas sugieren la necesidad de reflexionar sobre el posible desajuste existente entre la realidad cotidiana y el marco normativo remodelado en los últimos años. En tercer lugar, hay que tener en cuenta que los tiempos de austeridad en los que estamos viviendo podrían representar el punto de partida del retroceso en cuestiones de derechos e igualdad. Se ha observado que los tiempos de crisis y de incertidumbre fomentan comportamientos autoritarios, baja tolerancia y adopción de puntos de vistas dogmáticos (Merolla, Ramos y Zechmeister, 2012). El reciente cuestionamiento en España de determinados derechos adquiridos, como el aborto, requieren reflexionar y analizar la posible precariedad de los logros civiles y legales. La tesis doctoral que se presenta se articula en cinco partes. En el primer capítulo se introducirá el estado actual del campo de estudio sobre el tema de los colectivos LGB en su entorno laboral. En el segundo capítulo, se resumirán los objetivos generales y específicos del presente trabajo. Posteriormente, en el tercer capítulo, se presentarán las cuatro publicaciones que forman parte de la tesis doctoral. El primer artículo (The invisibility of sexual orientation in Spain and its manifestations in the workplace) trata de contextualizar la experiencia de las personas LGB en el trabajo, explorando las peculiaridades del contexto español, de su reciente historia y modelos socio-culturales. Aunque investigaciones llevadas a cabo en otros países han explorado la experiencia de las personas LGB en los contextos de trabajo, la casi totalidad de ellas ha tenido en cuenta el contexto en términos de entorno organizacional, sin considerar los valores y las creencias típicas de un determinado país. La dictadura Franquista, el papel que la religión católica ha jugado, y sigue jugando, en la educación de muchas generaciones, la atribución de significado al espacio público y privado en función de los roles de género, son algunos de los elementos que tendremos en consideración a la hora de interpretar la experiencia presente de los/as trabajadores/as LGB. La segunda publicación (Estrategias de coming out de personas lesbianas y gays en el trabajo) se orienta a identificar las estrategias de coming out o diclosure más habituales por parte de las personas lesbianas y gays en el contexto de trabajo, subrayando las consecuencias a las que las estrategias más utilizadas pueden dar lugar, a nivel personal, grupal y organizacional. Los resultados del estudio recogidos en esta segunda publicación, permitieron ajustar algunas temáticas que se desarrollaron en el tercer artículo (Negotiating boundaries: Disclosure dynamics in Spanish workplaces). Este trabajo explora el proceso a través del cual los/as trabajadores/as revelan su orientación sexual a sus compañeros/as, introduciendo la Boundary Theory para identificar el rol que terceras partes (e.g., compañeros/as, supervisores/as) juegan durante este proceso, facilitando u obstaculizando ¿las elecciones¿ de las personas LGB con respecto a revelar o no su orientación sexual en el trabajo. A través de este estudio se hizo patente la importancia del papel desempeñado por los/as compañeros/as y los/as supervisores/as durante toda la interacción con las personas LGB, subrayando los aspectos a veces discriminatorios de dicho proceso. De acuerdo con lo previamente expuesto, la cuarta publicación (Workplace incivility as modern sexual prejudice) se centra en los actos incívicos en el trabajo hacia las personas LGB. En este artículo se analiza en qué medida estos actos podrían ser expresión de prejuicios y estereotipos implícitos, dando lugar a lo que se define como discriminación moderna. Tras la presentación de las publicaciones se mostrarán los resultados globales de esta investigación (capítulo IV). La discusión y las conclusiones serán tratadas al final de la tesis (capítulos V y VI, respectivamente). La tesis doctoral presenta implicaciones a nivel teórico y práctico. A nivel teórico, a través de la Boundary Theory, se analiza por primera vez el proceso de disclosure en el trabajo, teniendo en cuenta el rol jugado por terceras partes (compañeros/as, supervisores/as, etc.). Además, se identifican los actos incívicos en el trabajo como manifestación de discriminación moderna hacia los colectivos de personas LGB. Todos estos procesos se estudian teniendo en cuenta las peculiaridades del contexto socio-cultural español. A nivel práctico, se subraya el rol de las organizaciones en la creación de un entorno respetuoso de la diversidad. Si por un lado es muy difícil cambiar los prejuicios y los estereotipos de los/as empleados/as, por otro lado, los directivos de Recursos Humanos juegan un papel importante a la hora de moldear un entorno de trabajo donde las personas LGB puedan manejar el proceso de disclosure libremente. Incluir la orientación sexual en la definición de diversidad, crear redes de apoyo internas a la organización, no permitir ninguna forma de discriminación, constituyen sólo el primer paso para el desarrollo de políticas de gestión de la diversidad. ; Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado US

2012/2013 ; La tesi si apre con un paragrafo introduttivo, dedicato a delineare per cenni lo scenario della produzione narrativa italiana dell'ultimo decennio sulla base di alcuni studi quantitativi che propongono una classificazione delle opere pubblicate in Italia entro una griglia articolata in cinque classi, fondate su categorie dell'immaginario narrativo. A partire dal quadro che questi studi lasciano intravedere, si prendono le mosse per introdurre la questione del romanzo storico, rendendo ragione di una produzione vasta, stratificata su più livelli, molto differenziata al proprio interno e capace di riscuotere interesse ed apprezzamento da parte del pubblico. Si accenna poi al discrimine cronologico che segna la rinascita del romanzo storico in età contemporanea: esso è dai più collocato sul finire degli anni Settanta e all'inizio degli anni Ottanta. Dopo aver passato in rassegna i titoli più significativi dei due decenni successivi, si prende posizione a favore della tesi della continuità tra il romanzo storico classico e la produzione più recente. Essa andrà dunque intesa non come vera e propria rifondazione del romanzo storico, bensì come momento di ritorno in auge dopo un periodo relativamente lungo di minor visibilità e di calo quantitativo. Dopo aver fatto il punto sulle più rilevanti proposte elaborate dalla critica negli ultimi trent'anni, si argomenta a favore di una definizione quanto più possibile ampia ed inclusiva, perché maggiormente funzionale a storicizzare in modo nuovo. Si sottolineano gli svantaggi dell'utilizzo dell'etichetta di 'romanzo storico' come categoria applicabile esclusivamente alla produzione ottocentesca e dell'introduzione di nuove etichette volte ad enfatizzare la natura irriducibile della produzione più recente alla formula e all'ideologia del romanzo storico classico. Si esplicita infine il significato che all'interno della ricerca si attribuirà all'etichetta di 'romanzo storico', specificando che esso è in larga misura fondato sulla definizione proposta da Vittorio Spinazzola. L'adozione di una definizione ampia ed inclusiva comporta la necessità di individuare all'interno del genere 'romanzo storico' alcune subcategorie dotate di una propria specifica coerenza. Per questa ragione si affronta sommariamente il nodo teorico del genere. Ci si sofferma in particolare sulle teorie elaborate in ambito semiotico ed ermeneutico, che costituiscono la cornice teorica di riferimento della ricerca. La finalità della ricerca è duplice: da un lato analizzare la fisionomia assunta dal romanzo storico contemporaneo, individuando morfologie ricorrenti, il loro rapporto con la produzione del recente passato e con la struttura del romanzo storico classico; dall'altro sondarne i risvolti ideologici per verificare se la produzione contemporanea possa essere considerata espressione di 'impegno'. Si prende in considerazione una campionatura significativa di romanzi storici italiani editi nel decennio 2001-2010. Essi vengono organizzati in quattro subcategorie che presentano caratteristiche strutturali omogenee. In un primo filone i personaggi storici – tutti di primo piano – occupano il centro della scena narrativa e il vertice della gerarchia sociale; essi detengono il potere, da soli o in concorrenza con altri. L'epoca rappresentata coincide sempre con un potenziale bivio della storia. La rappresentazione dei fattori economici, sociali, culturali che concorrono a determinare i processi storici è del tutto marginale: la storia appare il frutto di decisioni personali, assunte nel chiuso dei palazzi e calate dall'alto sul popolo, il quale ne è il destinatario passivo. La narrazione è condotta attraverso il punto di vista di un personaggio di invenzione, che entra in contatto con i potenti influenzandone il comportamento. Egli non appartiene al mondo del potere: per questo può raccontarlo con uno sguardo affidabile e distanziato. Dalla sua prospettiva la storia gli appare un gioco di potere, l'esito di un complotto permanente che rimane celato alle masse perché la verità è sistematicamente censurata e falsificata. Romanzi analizzati: Nella variante morfologica di romanzi storici 'al femminile' il livello della grande storia, intesa come insieme degli eventi rilevanti sul piano politico-militare, rimane sullo sfondo o è del tutto ignorato; oggetto di interesse è, al contrario, la rappresentazione, in un tempo e in un luogo qualunque, di un assetto sociale ingiusto e discriminatorio nei confronti delle donne, che condanna il genere femminile in quanto tale ad una condizione di marginalità ed irrilevanza universalmente condivisa e accettata, in quanto ritenuta naturale ed immutabile. Questo filone si incarica di rintracciare nel passato esempi di eroine precorritrici dei tempi, portatrici di una moderna energia e sensibilità, capaci di sfidare le convenzioni sociali, la sensibilità e la cultura della loro epoca. Si tratta dunque di una tipologia finalizzata a gratificare un pubblico incline a rappresentare se stesso quale esponente o sostenitore di un modello di femminilità dinamico e moderno, che consapevolmente persegue, con un atteggiamento percepito come una forma di militanza, un modello sociale in cui la piena parità di diritti ed opportunità sia effettivamente compiuta. L'aggregato morfologico del romanzo storico-esistenziale sceglie di concentrare l'ottica narrativa sulla microstoria, incaricandosi di raccontare piccole vicende private, personali o familiari, che si sviluppano sullo sfondo di una Storia incombente e minacciosa. Si tratta di un modo di affrontare la rappresentazione del passato che sembra perseguire programmaticamente la scomparsa della dialettica tra macro e microstoria. Il filone storico-esistenziale non si preoccupa di spiegare la Storia: i romanzi ad esso riconducibili sono accomunati dalla scelta di dare della storia una rappresentazione emotiva, in base alla quale essa appare una manifestazione sensibile del male. Il lettore di questi romanzi vede nella storia un'unica insensata carneficina: non distingue, non contestualizza, perché ha già un'idea precostituita della storia. La storia è l'attualizzazione del male che è inscritto nell'animo umano, è l'esito manifesto di un peccato originale. I romanzi storici postmoderni – quarta variante tipologica – non intendono divulgare conoscenza storica, né utilizzare il passato come metafora del presente, ma indagare la possibilità stessa di fare storia. Il rapporto diretto, aproblematico tra fatto storico e discorso storiografico viene incrinato. I quesiti posti da questi romanzi sono di natura epistemologica: vengono indagate le relazioni che si instaurano tra documento storico e narrazione su di esso fondata, viene esplicitata la natura equivoca delle fonti ed instillato il dubbio sulla loro neutralità, viene smascherato il quoziente di arbitrarietà di qualsiasi narrazione storiografica, è denunciata l'inevitabile compromissione con il potere di ogni discorso sul passato. Questi romanzi non appaiono focalizzati sulla ricostruzione di un determinato periodo storico, né sulla comprensione del passato sulla base di una logica di antecedenza/conseguenza, bensì su questioni che travalicano i limiti di un orizzonte temporale limitato per porsi in termini astorici e metastorici: più che condurre una riflessione sulla storia, riguardo alla quale postulano l'impossibilità di una conoscenza oggettiva di qualunque tipo, conducono una riflessione sulla storiografia, erodendo il confine che la separa dall'invenzione letteraria, confine percepito come infondato e artificiale. In una cornice narrativa di secondo grado, che funge da metanarrazione, viene inscenato il processo di elaborazione del discorso storiografico: si fornisce qui una rappresentazione drammatizzata del lavoro dello storico, servendosi di un personaggio che, per ragioni narrative, cerca di ricostruire il passato e di riappropriarsene, ma si trova paralizzato in una congerie di dati e di testimonianze, autentiche o fasulle, fra loro non armonizzabili, che conducono ad altrettanti vicoli ciechi Il quinto filone, dedicandosi alla ricostruzione della cultura, dell'immaginario, della sensibilità e della percezione della realtà proprie di un'epoca trascorsa, coniuga un'estrema fedeltà al dato storico con la produzione di un effetto di straniamento, che va nella direzione opposta rispetto all'esito mimetico tipico del romanzo storico. In questo aggregato testuale la narrazione è condotta attraverso il punto di vista di un narratore che condivide i parametri di una cultura estinta, totalmente estranea all'orizzonte culturale del presente, oppure di una cultura che, pur prossima alla nostra, presenti modelli cognitivi così lontani da quelli attivi nel presente, da produrre una sistematica infrazione dei parametri di verosimiglianza comunemente accettati. Il tentativo di riportare in vita il passato per mezzo della più fedele adesione ad una visione del mondo ormai tramontata sfocia paradossalmente in un effetto di irrealtà, che spalanca le porte del romance e conduce in territori affini a quelli della fiaba e del mito. Di fronte a questo modo di rappresentare la realtà e narrare la storia, assolutamente realistico dal punto di vista del narratore, ma totalmente spiazzante per il lettore radicato in un tempo e in una cultura diversi, si produce quell'esitazione di cui parla Todorov riguardo al fantastico, la cui radice consiste nella scoperta e nell'esplicitazione dell'irriducibile alterità del passato rispetto alla fisionomia del presente. L'obiettivo di questi romanzi non è però trasportare il lettore in una dimensione fantastica, bensì di spingerlo ad assumere consapevolezza degli schemi mentali che guidavano popoli lontani nello spazio e nel tempo: cioè dare una spiegazione razionale (la relatività storica delle civiltà umane) ad un iniziale effetto di esitazione o spaesamento. I risultati a cui si è pervenuti restituiscono un'immagine complessa dello scenario letterario di inizio millennio, che conferma solo parzialmente le due ipotesi sulle quali si era aperta e per le quali si rinvia al capitolo terzo. Per quanto riguarda la morfologia assunta dal romanzo storico nel periodo considerato, non trova riscontro l'assunto dell'affermazione di una struttura radicalmente nuova: accanto ad alcuni tratti di originalità, la maggior parte dei romanzi storici analizzati ripropone e contamina paradigmi consolidati. Riguardo al tema dell'impegno, l'analisi dei testi non pare evidenziare una linea di tendenza statisticamente rilevante: si può parlare di un impiego del passato con finalità di battaglia politica in un numero non significativo di casi; si tratta inoltre di un impegno non di rado viziato da un atteggiamento narcisistico e populistico. ; XXV Ciclo ; 1975

Chile tiene admirado a todo el mundo, a raíz de lo bien que está haciendo las cosas. Hasta la década de 1970, ese país transitaba por los mismos senderos que recorrían por ese entonces las demás naciones sudamericanas. Sin embargo, fue en esa década que –orientados por los "Chicago Boys"- sus gobernantes dieron un cambio brusco de timón. Sus principales medidas de índole económica fueron, disminuir el gasto estatal, reducir el tamaño del estado y realizar un control estricto en el manejo de los dineros públicos. Además destrabaron sus mercados, se abrieron al mundo, e hicieron reformas trascendentales como por ejemplo en la seguridad social.Si bien es verdad que la mayor parte de esas disposiciones fueron tomadas durante la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990), no es menos cierto que con esas medidas, las condiciones socio-económicas de Chile mejoraron notablemente. A pesar de ello, las restricciones a los derechos individuales hacían que la situación no fuera del todo recomendable. Así lo sintieron los chilenos, y por eso dieron los pasos necesarios para transitar en forma pacífica hacia la democracia. Objetivo que lograron en 1989, cuando se realizaron elecciones libres.Los gobernantes democráticos tuvieron el buen sentido de continuar la línea económica que se venía aplicando, y que tan buenos resultados estaba dando. En rigor se podría decir, que la suma de democracia más libertad económica, fue lo que produjo el "milagro" chileno. Afirmamos esto, porque fue reciéna partir de la década de 1990 cuando se redujo la pobreza e indigencia en forma pronunciada. También fue a partir de esa década que los diferentes gobernantes chilenos, mayoritariamente de orientación centro-izquierda, firmaron una infinidad de tratados de libre comercio con diversas partes del mundo. Y el resultado fue, que Chile prosperó y se encaminó resueltamente a ser un país desarrollado.Los datos hablan por sí solo:En el período que va desde 1950 hasta 1975, Chile fue campeón mundial en la destrucción del papel moneda. El porcentaje de descenso del poder adquisitivo fue de 99%. El aumento del coste de la vida fue de 11.318.874 %.En la década de 1980 - según cifras del Banco Mundial- el porcentaje de pobres rondaba el 45%. La indigencia giraba en torno al 17,6%. La inflación se situaba entre el 20 % y el 30% anual. El desempleo estaba en el orden del 13%. El crecimiento económico era de un insignificante 0,7% anual.Desde la década de 1990 en adelante, la pobreza ha venido descendiendo y el nivel de vida general ascendiendo. Ambas variables lo han hecho en forma persistente. Las cifras actuales son las siguientes: el índice de pobreza es de 15% y la indigencia se sitúa en el 3%. La inflación anual es de 3% y el desempleo se sitúa en torno al 6 %. A partir de 1985, la tasa media anual de crecimiento ha sido superior al 7%, ubicándose actualmente alrededor del 5,5%. La conjunción de estos factores ha dado como resultado, que los salarios reales han venido creciendo, en promedio, entre 4% y 5% por año. En 1990, el ingreso per cápita era de U$S 5.000; actualmente ronda los U$S 20.000.Frente a estos resultados, que no pueden ser calificados de otro modo que sumamente beneficiosos para los chilenos, la pregunta que muchos se hacen, es: ¿Por qué razón una porción importante de los habitantes quieren cambiar este modelo, por otro que ha fracasado en todas las partes donde ha sido puesto en práctica, incluso en el propio Chile?Ese talante de los chilenos se ha manifestado de diversas formas. Entre ellas podemos mencionarlas protestas multitudinarias de los últimos años: las de los estudiantes, los defensores del medio ambiente, los miembros de la comunidad gay y los indígenas. Y fundamentalmente, en los resultados de las recientes elecciones nacionales, donde una porción muy grande de la población se sintió atraído por las propuestas estatistas de Michelle Bachelet. La exmandataria obtuvo alrededor del 47% de los votos, en las elecciones nacionales realizadas el 17 de noviembre.No es un dato menor, que en esta ocasión se presentó aliada con el Partido Comunista.Estos comicios han acaparado la atención mundial. La razón es, que siendo Chile considerado desde el exterior como un ejemplo a seguir por otras naciones que procuren dejar el subdesarrollo detrás, los chilenos han manifestado su deseo mayoritario de realizar un cambio profundo en el modelo Y obviamente, esto causa perplejidad.Ese apoyo aplastante a Bachelet, de por sí no sería preocupante, ya que parte de la alianza de partidos que integra la exmandataria, gobernó exitosamente Chile por 20 años (1990-2010). Lo que denota un cambio muy pronunciado en las ideas de la ciudadanía, es el impresionante apoyo a sus propuestas recientes.Bachelet afirma que el país se enfrenta a una "nueva etapa". En consecuencia, hay que realizar cambios profundos en el modelo de desarrollo que se ha venido utilizando hasta el momento. Concretamente, ofreció iniciar un proceso mediante el cual en seis años, el Estado brinde una educación universitaria gratuita y de calidad. Asimismo, prometió acabar en forma progresiva con el sistema de copago en establecimientos escolares subvencionados por el Estado. Simultáneamente, propuso realizar una reforma fiscal para que paguen más las grandes empresas y se reduzcan los impuestos personales. También se mostró partidaria de redactar una nueva constitución que sustituya a la de 1980.Frente a ese contexto, muchos observadores internacionales se preguntan: ¿Qué está pasando en Chile?Una de las posibles respuestas podría ser, que ese estado de ánimo está muy relacionado con las protestas callejeras mencionadas. Frente a esa hipótesis se podría replicar, que en realidad ellas no son una causa, sino la manifestación visible de móviles más complejos. Entre ellos se podría pensar, en un estado de frustración en amplias capas de la sociedad.Por otra parte, se ve a la izquierda radical trabajando activamente para sembrar ideas y captar agentes útiles para su proyecto mundial. No es por casualidad que la mayoría de los dirigentes estudiantiles pertenezcan al partido comunista. También se teme que muchas de las agitaciones indígenas estén fomentadas desde el ALBA. Desde la época de la ex URSS, la táctica ha sido "sembrar agentes" funcionales a su proyecto político. En las propias directivas emanadas de la ex "Comintern" ("Internacional Comunista" o "III Internacional"), se especificaba que los agentes de agitación en los diferentes países "a conquistar", o sea, los "revolucionarios profesionales", debían ser "jóvenes, decididos y ciegamente devotos a la causa".Sin embargo, el "comunismo" de estos grupos de presión, parece limitarse a querer que otros paguen por los servicios -en este caso la educación universitaria- que ellos usufructuarán. No hemos visto que hayan ofrecido a cambio ninguna contrapartida "social" por parte de ellos. Quieren que "otros" paguen por la educación que obtienen, pero que los honorarios que cobren una vez recibidos, sea todo de ellos. Aquí hay un tema moral de por medio, que nadie parece tener en cuenta. Lo que sus demandas traslucen, es este pensamiento: "lo tuyo es mío, y lo mío es mío".Los chilenos en general, no parecen rechazar los beneficios que el capitalismo les ha traído. Llenan los shoppings, compran autos buenos, tienen mayores comodidades en sus casas, viajan. Sin embargo, parecen menos dispuestos a tener la conducta que hace moralmente legítimo tener ese standard de vida: el trabajo duro, el emprendurismo y el ahorro. Quieren esos bienes y esos servicios sin esforzarse demasiado para obtenerlos. Y el canto de sirenas de gente interesada, los conduce al estatismo.Otra respuesta podría ser, que Chile ha caído en lo que se denomina "la trampa de la países de ingreso medio". Samuel Huntington en su ensayo "El orden político en las sociedades de cambio", opina que el auge de los movimientos sociales y la inestabilidad política en los países en vías de desarrollo, se originan en el surgimiento de masivas clases medias, con acceso a la educación y muy conscientes de sus derechos. Se producen esos sacudones sociales, cuando las instituciones políticas no han evolucionado en forma suficientemente rápida, como para colmar las expectativas de una nueva clase media empoderada.Posiblemente la respuesta a la interrogante que nos planteamos anteriormente, sea una combinación de todas estas hipótesis.Finalmente, al hacer este análisis, no debemos perder de vista que más de la mitad de los ciudadanos se abstuvieron de votar. Eso podría interpretarse como un signo, de que están cómodos con el estado actual de las cosas. Cuando la gente siente la imperiosa necesidad de cambiar el "modelo", va a votar masivamente. Ese es un signo alentador.Por el bien de los chilenos y su bienestar futuro, deseamos que tanto los gobernantes electos como los habitantes recobren el buen juicio. No sea que les vaya a pasar como a la Argentina, que estando a un paso de ser un país desarrollado, sus élites y su gente optó por el camino contario.
