In the XXI century, the city began to lose its appeal to people: theaccumulation of elements of the artificial material world in the form of buildings andstructures, increasing the number of abandoned industrial areas, the sharpdeterioration of the environmental situation contributes to anti-urban trends and urbandepression. Today there is an urgent problem of harmonization of human life andsociety in relation to the natural environment, so began to emerge architectural trendsand currents, the main concept of which - unity with nature. But for theimplementation of such projects aimed at stabilizing the ecological situation of theurban environment, the need for development of new territories has increased. Inthese conditions, the interest of depressed industrial urban enterprises isunderstandable, which can be fully included in the architectural environment of thecity and adapted to the needs of modern society. Revitalization has become animportant component of the new paradigm of renewal of the territorial space of Kyivas a post-socialist city. It is established that in modern cities there are almost no free territories thatcould be used to increase the area of public spaces, landscaping and the formation oflandscape and recreational areas. Attention began to attract degraded industrial areas- areas of the city, which under the influence of social, economic, political factorshave lost their purpose, are not used for their original purpose and are abandoned.Former industrial areas have great urban potential. And the secondary use ofdegraded industrial buildings with the subsequent eco-revitalization of thesurrounding space helps to simultaneously solve the problematic issues of economy,ecology and aesthetics in the process of city life. The article considers the concept of "ecorevitalization" as one of the elementsof sustainable urban development policy aimed at preventing the development ofurban areas, development of social and economic activities, ecological improvementof the environment and analyzes the ways of ecorevitation. Adult height is the most commonly used biological indicator to evaluate material and emotional conditions in which people grew up, allowing the analysis of secular trends associated with socio-economic change as well as of social inequalities among human populations. There is a lack of studies on both aspects regarding urban populations. Our study evaluates the secular trends and the disparities in height of conscripts born between 1915 and 1953 and called-up at the age of 21 between 1936 and 1969, living in districts with low versus middle and high socio-economic conditions, in the city of Madrid, Spain. We test the hypothesis that urban spatial segregation and social stratification was associated with significant differences in height. Results show that height increased significantly during the analysed period, both among conscripts living in the middle- and upper-class districts (5.85 cm) and in the lower-class districts (6.75 cm). The positive secular trend in height among conscripts from middle- and upper-class districts was sustained throughout the period, but the trend in height among the lower class fluctuated according to social, political, and economic events. Our findings support previous research that adult height is influenced strongly by the family living conditions during infancy and by community effects acting during childhood and adolescence.

Faced with increased global migration, there is a growing concern that social workers need more training in- and knowledge of culture and ethnicity. These understandings have come to influence research, education, practice, codes of ethics and organizational policy, constituting a multicultural discourse within the field of social work. Social workers are expected to have cultural competence, and exercise cultural sensitivity in their practice. However, a clear and consistent understanding of what it means to be culturally competent or culturally sensitive is missing, and there seems to be little consensus in how to define and apply these concepts, both within research and practice. The aim of this qualitative evidence synthesis is to synthesize what previous empirical research reports about social workers' understandings and experiences when operationalizing the concepts into practice. Through data-based and a manual journal search, 12 qualitative empirical studies were included in the synthesis. Our analysis describes four main challenges in the studies' efforts to operationalize the cultural concepts in social work practice: 1) Who to define as culturally diverse service-users; 2) What aspects of culture to consider in the encounters with culturally diverse service-users; 3) How to consider and approach these aspects of culture, and 4) the capacity to work in a culturally appropriate manner within the organizational context where this work is undertaken. The literature acknowledges these challenges to varying degrees. We summarize the four challenges in a model, and argue that the model can be useful in further awareness-raising, development and integration of our understandings of cross-cultural social work. By depicting the essential questions of who, what, how and where to employ the concepts into practice, we aim to assist scholars, practitioners and educators to help navigate the multifaceted landscape of culture and social work.

Highlighting the frequent pathologization of animal lovers and animal rights activists, this book examines how the "madness" of our relationships with animals intersects with the "madness" of taking animals seriously. The museum exhibition, Indo + Caribbean: The Creation of a Culture, which ran at the Museum of London Docklands, offers a captivating and insightful exploration of the rich heritage and diverse traditions of the Indo-Caribbean community. Through a combination of artefacts, personal miscellany, for example, jewellery, letters petitioning the government from planter Sir John Gladstone, contracts, shipping company records, postcards and papers from the Parliamentary Archives and artworks, the exhibition provides a decent, albeit not exhaustive, overview of the historical, cultural and social aspects of Indo-Caribbean identity.

The article discusses the possible ecological and environmental threats that Europe can be faced with in the nearest future, along with the possible scenarios of the damage. The analysis presents several ideas for dealing with the threats, as well as problem-solving models, with special attention paid to Jeremy Rifkin's 'Third Industrial Revolution Concept'. The basis of the concept is the social aspect of the ecological change that the future may bring about. The demands and challenges that will have to be met as a result of the change are central for this article.
