Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are implemented in business in the hope of obtaining benefits in the form of improved communications and increased efficiency through the standardization of information technology (IT) across functional business areas. The benefits, and in some cases problems, associated with implementation have been well documented, however there is little information available on their effectiveness in different types of organization. This paper looks at ERP implementations in Government Owned Corporations (GOC) and discusses implementation issues by looking at the way we perceive such organisations. A GOC case study is presented and explored in terms of the ERP and GOC literature in the context of existing social research approaches. This paper examines why end users in a GOC appear to be neither complying with, nor fully exploiting the potential of the ERP. The paper contends that discourses by staff at the operational level are different to that of staff at the managerial level. The paper also confirms previous research stating the importance of end user input for effective IT systems and ERP implementation processes.

The article explores the specific conception of art developed by Danko Grlić, a prominent member of the Yugoslav Praxis School. Grlić conceptualised art beyond both aesthetic norms and technological determinism. Within the context of praxis philosophy, a distinct theory of the subject and a Marxist humanist approach, he reconceptualised art as a distinct type of praxis, a revolutionary and creative practice of changing existing living conditions. The article explains how his unique understanding of art leads Grlić to analyse, criticise and refute various Marxist approaches to art: art as an ideology, art as a reflection of the objective world, art as sociological analysis. Moreover, while sharing many ideas and conceptions with Walter Benjamin's materialist conception of art, Grlić reached the point where he became critical due to Benjamin's belief in technology concerning processes of emancipation, which Grlić viewed with scepticism.

Purpose of the Article. The article reveals the fundamental approaches to clarifying the "technology" concept, which is common in cultural, art history, and philosophical literature on this topic. The level of scientific development of the concepts of "technophilia", "technophobia", "determinism" is investigated and the influence of technical progress on the formation of art and culture, in general, is clarified. The methodology is based on an integrated approach and relies on general scientific and specific scientific methods: analytical – for considering philosophical, art history, cultural studies literature on the research topic; historical – for tracing the evolution of technology penetration into cultural and artistic practice, conceptual – for analyzing the concept of "technology" and clarifying the main concepts considered. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that for the first time the role of technology in the course of the cultural development of mankind through the prism of a deterministic concept is played. Conclusions. The technology is conditioned by social requirements and introduced for the further development of the cultural development of mankind. This means that the concepts of technological and social determinism, although they are fundamentally different, are reciprocal, inalienable positions. If technology is transformed, the result of the production process changes accordingly. Consequently, technology and culture are not neutral, when technology is applied, it becomes involved in social processes. Knowledge of how to create and improve technologies, as well as how to use them, is socially connected. Any production process that is technologically thought out and organized (in particular, in a mechanical and electronic way) requires less human effort to obtain the desired result than one that requires manual work.

U.S. Army leaders in the 1950s, such as Generals Matthew Ridgway and Maxwell Taylor, looked to technology to improve the Army's position under President Dwight Eisenhower's New Look defense policy. The U.S. Army invested more in its missile program in the later part of the 1950s than all other munitions combined. U.S. Army leaders sought to show that through technical triumphs and organizational changes that the U.S. ground force was still relevant in the atomic age. However, their reliance on technical success did not consider the policy and economic constraints of the New Look defense policy. Technological success alone could not overcome these limits. Military technology exists in a richer political and social context, and U.S. Army leaders' efforts to rely on technological success to overcome the limits of their context failed to directly address the political and economic realities of the New Look defense policy.

Critics who think inequality and crisis are endemic to capitalism have proposed accelerationism: speeding up the system's immanent processes and potentialities to transcend rather than repair it. This writing has tended to focus on aesthetics and technology, rather than capitalism's tendencies of motion. Efforts to show that capitalism develops solely on the basis of technological progress cannot be maintained theoretically or empirically, as the work of Bill Warren shows. An accelerationist political economy must begin from the conflict between the forces and relations of production, rather than an ahistorical, additive account of development factors. I suggest that an anti-determinist accelerationism remains possible, providing capitalist development is understood as a political struggle over the creation of value. ; Kritiki, ki mislijo, da so neenakost in krize omejene na kapitalizem, so predlagali akceleracionizem: pospešitev sistemu imanentnega procesa in potencialnosti z namenom preseči ga in ne popraviti. Članek se ne osredotoča toliko na kapitalistično težnjo gibanja, kot na estetiko in tehnologijo. Prizadevanj pokazati, da se kapitalizem razvija izključno na temelju tehnološkega napredka, ni mogoče zagovarjati ne teoretično ne empirično. To pokaže tudi delo Billa Warrena. Akceleracionistična politična ekonomija mora pričeti s konfliktom med produkcijskimi silami in produkcijskimi razmerji in ne z ahistoričnim, aditivnim opisom razvojnih faktorjev. Sam si nasprotno prizadevam pokazati, da antideterministični akceleracionizem ostaja možen, če je kapitalistični razvoj razumljen kot politični boj za ustvarjanje vrednosti.

This article examines the tendency of many historians of the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century British military to be dismissive of both the potential for cavalry action on the battlefield and the capacity of the mounted arm to reform. This tendency is rooted in an overemphasis on the impact and effectiveness of new weapons technologies. By drawing not just on historiographical evidence but also on the works of contemporary theorists, a case is made that the supposedly reactionary adherents of the arme blanche proved, in fact, the most practical reformers, creating an arm capable of fighting effectively both mounted and dismounted. Their doctrine was vindicated during the First World War; neither the sometimes confused posturing of the advocates of mounted infantry nor the advent of the clumsy and unreliable tank provided a genuine alternative to the highly mobile and tactically flexible British cavalry arm. Overall, this case might serve as a warning against prioritizing technologically based explanations of changes in the conduct of warfare.
