This study investigates the applicability of the "Dutch Disease" model as a means of explaining the changing sectoral composition of output for Paraguay in the period of 1973-1986. For this purpose the consequences of "booming-sector" activity for the distribution of income as it affects wages, and the instability of export earnings are examined. The outcomes are tested in several single and multiple-equation estimable models for the case of Paraguay. (DSE/DÜI)

The purpose of this paper is to derive and empirically test a simple macro model of monetary dependency for a small, open country. A number of recent articles have focused attention on the issue of monetary dependency in the Third World. The present work differs in the particular theoretical specification of the dependency model, but shares a basic interest in the determination of the country's monetary base as a function of its balance of payments

An examination of gender-related differences in the decision to migrate internationally, based on survey data collected in 1983/84 on 1,303 Paraguayan families, 50% of whom reside in Buenos Aires, Argentina, & 50% in Asuncion, Paraguay. A single-equation logit model is specified to distinguish movers from nonmovers, with explanatory variables including demographic & occupationally related measures. It is suggested that occupationally related variables are more important in explaining male migration decisions than those made by females. 4 Tables, 10 References. Adapted from the source document.

In any model the values of estimates for various parameters are obtained from different sources each with its own level of uncertainty. When the probability distributions of the estimates are obtained as opposed to point values only, the measurement uncertainties in the parameter estimates may be addressed. However, the sources used for obtaining the data and the models used to select appropriate distributions are of differing degrees of uncertainty. A hierarchy of different sources of uncertainty based upon one's ability to validate data and models empirically is presented. When model parameters are aggregated with different levels of the hierarchy represented, this implies distortion or degradation in the utility and validity of the models used. Means to identify and deal with such heterogeneous data sourcesare explored, and a number of approaches to addressing this problem is presented. One approach, using Range/confidence Estimates coupled with an Information Value Analysis Process, is presented as an example.
