"When, how, and why were the towns of Salmon and Aztec, in what is now the Four Corners region of the Southwest, established? What roles did these Middle San Juan sites play in the waning years of the Chaco world, known to archaeologists as the late Pueblo II and Pueblo III periods? This complex period has fascinated archaeologists for more than a century. Often overshadowed by the Pueblo centers at Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, the Middle San Juan is one of the most dynamic territories in the pre-Hispanic Southwest, interacting with Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde as well the surrounding regions. This ancient Pueblo heartland was instrumental in tying together Chaco and Mesa Verde cultures to create a distinctive blend of old and new, local and nonlocal. The authors of this book attribute the development of Salmon and Aztec to migration and colonization by people from Chaco Canyon. Rather than fighting for control over the territory, Chaco migrants and local leaders worked together to build the great houses of Aztec and Salmon, while maintaining their identities and connections with their individual homelands. As a result of this collaboration, the Middle San Juan can now be seen as one of the ancient Puebloan heartlands that made important contributions to contemporary Pueblo society"--

This technical report provides information about the sample, survey instruments, and resultant data for the American Instructional Resources Surveys that were administered to principals and teachers in spring 2023 via RAND's American Educator Panels.

Purpose - This study evaluates career impact of entrepreneurship education (EE) considering evidence drawn from a quantitative study of alumni within two UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from a retrospective perspective. The findings informs the value of the EE experience and its impact on both self-employability and wider employability career choices. This study will be of relevance to both enterprise support agencies and government policy makers. Design/methodology/approach - This research study considers evidence drawn from an online quantitative survey of EE within two UK HEIs. The survey evaluated a range of issues including course design, programme satisfaction, impact, career outcomes and respondents demographics. Over 80 respondents completed the survey in full which was analyzed using a range of bivariate techniques. Findings - The evidence suggested here indicates that EE programmes provide value both in terms of helping to enable business start-ups and also in supporting other career paths, through the enterprising knowledge and skill sets graduates acquire during their specialised studies. This study contributes to the literature by recognizing and measuring these contributions. For example, this study enables discernment between different EE course components and their value for different career outcomes. Research limitations/implications - The study recognises the limitations of this survey data in terms of the size of the sample, number of HEIs evaluated and its point in time design. Practical implications - The HEI sector must evaluate its practices and measure the effectiveness of its graduates in terms of achieving sustainable business start-up. In course design, the evidence suggested that students value both the enterprising and entrepreneurial skills and knowledge components and discern value between them in their later careers. The findings suggests that EE graduates typically experience portfolio careers with multiple occupations in different sectors and roles within both employment and self-employment. Thus it is important that EE programme design includes both Enterprising and Entrepreneurial components to meet the future requirements of their graduates post-graduation. Originality/value - This study contributes new evidence regarding the value of EE in UK HEIs. This evidence should inform course design and policy makers regarding the value of EE in creating self-employment and creating enterprising employees.

Despite rapid growth in female entrepreneurship globally, the gender gap in self-employment remains and women's full contribution to the economy via self-employment continues to be unrealised. This paper explores pathways taken by women in Wales at start up and whilst running their own businesses. Female self-employment is a useful focus given current political interest and policy focus on SMEs revitalising the Welsh economy. Using a phenomenological approach employing narrative techniques and business life histories, a grounded account is provided of entrepreneurial practice from perceptions of the female entrepreneur herself. In their sense making, female entrepreneurs convey how lack of credibility (in terms of "not being taken seriously") and consequently the pursuit of attaining an often elusive level of credibility, strongly shapes business decisions and entrepreneurial experiences and occurs regardless of levels of educational achievement, previous work experience or industry sector, adding a layer of complexity to business decisions and strategies.

This is the first book in the UK or US to set on record the recent cultural phenomenon of the use of certain dog breeds - both legal and illegal - to 'convey status' upon their owners. Such dogs are easily visible on social housing estates throughout the UK and in projects in the USA and provide acquired authority, respect, power and control. However they are increasingly linked to urban street gangs as 'Weapon Dogs' and present a danger to the ordinary public especially those using parks and open spaces with increased injuries being presented at UK hospitals. Though initially slow to react, local and statutory authorities are now seeking to address the issue through action plans and interventions. Written in a fresh, engaging and accessible style, this unique book contextualizes the phenomenon in terms of sociology, criminology and public policy. It considers a complex mix of urban and social deprivation, social control of public space and the influence of contemporary media imagery and 'gangsta' culture. In their recent Human Relations article and subsequent rejoinder to three commentators, Alvesson and Kärreman make a number of assertions concerning the development of organizational discourse analysis and the current state of research in this area. We believe their emphasis on provocation results in an unsatisfactory problematization of discourse-based work with the result that there are significant problems with both their analysis of the literature and their solutions to the shortcomings that they believe exist. We discuss a number of reasons why we believe that readers should be wary of what they read about organizational discourse analysis in Alvesson and Kärreman's work. Drawing on our critique of their article and rejoinder, we propose some ideas that we believe will be more useful in developing studies of organizational discourse than those put forward by these authors.

Cet article se propose d'explorer une facette peu étudiée des communs, et pourtant essentielle à leur émergence, à leur pérennité et à leur accessibilité : l'opérationnalisation de leur financement. C'est à travers le cas du Bâtiment 7, une fabrique d'autonomie collective située dans un quartier populaire de Montréal, que nous défendons l'hypothèse selon laquelle le chemin vers la viabilité financière ne se résume pas à un enjeu managérial, mais constitue un travail intrinsèquement politique qui s'inscrit au coeur du processus de mise en commun. À cette fin, notre analyse se déroule en deux temps. D'une part, par souci de contextualisation, nous nous réapproprions la littérature scientifique sur les communs pour caractériser le projet du Bâtiment 7. Cela nous permet d'identifier certaines de ses singularités qui ont des répercussions économiques déterminantes sur le plan de sa faisabilité. D'autre part, nous mobilisons les données d'une recherche partenariale en cours avec le Bâtiment 7 et des bailleurs de fonds pour mettre en scène les tensions structurantes qui résultent de ce que nous appelons la micropolitique du financement. Ce terme désigne tant les choix politiques qui fondent les orientations financières que les expérimentations par lesquelles sont mises en cohérence les modalités de financement et la mission de l'organisme.

Drawing on a combination of survey data, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, this article explores the main forms of restructuring that have taken place within Québec's voluntary sector in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It centres on three main shifts: the designation of certain voluntary activities as "essential services" by politicians; the im- plementation of new approaches to soliciting, matching, and retaining volunteers; and the institutionalization of a new health-centric rationality within the supervision of volunteer work. The article concludes by calling for recognition, in theory and practice, of the essential role that volunteering plays with regard to socio-territorial resilience. RÉSUMÉ Mobilisant les données d'un travail de veille portant sur l'impact de la pandémie de COVID-19 sur le secteur de bienfai- sance au Québec, cet article explore les principales restructurations qui se sont opérées au sein du secteur bénévole. Nos enquêtes nous ont permis d'en dégager trois : la qualification, par le politique, de certaines activités bénévoles en « services essentiels » ; la mise en œuvre de nouvelles approches en matière de sollicitation, de jumelage et de rétention des bénévoles ; l'obligation pour les organismes d'encadrer le travail des bénévoles en fonction d'une « rationalité sanitaire ». The concept of authentic leadership rose to prominence through its idealization as an inherently moral and universally desirable trait. We problematize this romantic notion by exploring how the 'authenticity' of the CEOs of four major Australian banks was discursively constructed before and during the global financial crisis (GFC). Using multimodal discourse analysis of media texts, we show how what it meant to be an 'authentic leader' was co-constructed differently by the CEOs and the media. We also highlight the dynamic nature of context, where the GFC was variously framed by and for each of the CEOs. Our study challenges the acontextual notion of authentic leadership by showing how a discursively constructed context can reinforce or undermine leaders' narratives of authenticity.

Authenticity has been a focus of much leadership research in recent years. Despite this interest, there has been a dearth of studies that explore the role of gender in the social construction of authenticity. To date, authentic leadership theories have tended to be either gender neutral or, where gender has been considered, it is argued that women as 'outsiders' are less likely to be accepted by their followers as authentic leaders. In this study we examine the media representations of theCEOs— one male, one female — of two major Australian retail banks during the global financial crisis. Our approach enables us to show that authenticity is something leaders 'do' rather than something they 'have' or 'are', and that being constructed as authentic depends on the leader performing authenticity in line with gender norms deemed appropriate for the socially constructed context in which they are expected to lead.
