This paper attempts to address the issue of small business financing in Trinidad-Tobago. In particular, it seeks to establish the existence of an "access problem" and examines the problem in a way that the "blockage points" are revealed more sharply. It assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of policy instruments adopted since the declaration of Small Business Year in 1970 to funnel increased financial resources into the sector. Two approaches are identified and discussed: the programme approach and the financial market approach. The paper is concerned to show not only that the demand for finance exists, but that the more critical policy challenge is to find the most effective channel(s) of supply given the government's stated objective of bringing about "the widest possible public participation in business enterprise."

Since the early 1990s, credit expanded relative to income, especially after 2001. It is hypothesized that traditionally uneven credit access and gaps in the costs of credit by demographic characteristics shrank during this period. Relying on data from the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finance, this study looks at financial constraints, the costs of credit and a number of contributions to the costs of credit, including sources and types of loans. The results indicate that taste-based discrimination and structural discrimination may have persisted and possibly increased over time. Gaps in credit access and costs of credit have widened by race, remained high by income, but shrank by ethnicity. Part of the overall differences in credit access was a varying reliance on professional information when making decisions on debt.

The author investigate the effect which the delivery performance of a company's suppliers have upon the company's own delivery assurance and reputation. Alternative methods of evaluating supplier delivery performance are studied. An analysis is made of the extent to which the suppliers' poor delivery performance was adversely affected by factors under the control of the company's own sales, design, production and purchasing departments in requesting unrealistic dates from suppliers.

The long history and deep‐rooted tradition of co‐operative credit in Spain (credit co‐operatives and credit sections of co‐operatives) and the lack of detailed studies of the latter suggest the need to reflect on them and highlight their potential.
