International audience ; Despite the political and economic turmoil since the beginning of the 2000's, the Gaza Strip has witnessed great vitality in its artistic scene. Most Palestinian artists actually come from Gaza, and a significant number of them have recently managed to gain international visibility. Besides the capacity of art to provide alternative visual narratives of a besieged city, art in this context is a tool that participates in construction of the city itself. This article aims to explore the interaction between art production and the backdrop of war within an urban landscape. It bears witness to the great artistic vitality of the Gazan people and moreover highlights Gaza's emerging cultural scene and the role increasingly played by the media and social networks, in contrast with the simplistic images often being conveyed. Based on both semi-structured interviews held with Gazan artists and participant observation in the local visual arts scene, this article seeks to shed light on the relationship between art and city in a context of urban crisis, through recognising Gaza's place as a Palestinian urban centre. Central to the issue of Palestinian national question and to potential breakthroughs in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Gaza is also relevant to understanding a number of challenges facing Arab and Muslim societies. Examining Gaza's art production in this specific context is crucial to comprehending how art participates in building a new city, beyond the media's narrowly stereotyped images.

The Need to Understand Factors Influencing Community Participation in Smart City Programs and to Evaluate Their Impact on Urban Progress This study aims to explore the implementation of the Smart City concept in Makassar, focusing on aspects of inclusion, sustainability, and the application of telemedicine technology. The research employs a quantitative methodology, designing a structured questionnaire encompassing variables such as environmental quality, economic vitality, social equity, and technological innovation. Data were collected through various online platforms and analyzed using statistical techniques like correlation analysis and regression modeling. The findings indicate that the majority of participants are males under 30 years old, with backgrounds in farming and entrepreneurship, reflecting high interest in the Smart City concept among this demographic group. These insights are crucial for realizing an inclusive and sustainable Smart City in Makassar and highlight the importance of accessibility and active participation from all community sectors for the success of the Smart City program.

Some of the implications of neoliberal policies for the Mexican countryside have been the deepening of social inequality and the dismantling of agrarian nuclei. However, processes of resistance and permanence of their collective vitality have also been observed. These processes are explained in part as a result of the social organization and historical conformation that preceded the legal changes in the ejidos. Based on an ethnographic work that included field trips, file review and semi-structured interviews in two ejidos that are located in the Guanajuato Bajío, a typology of agrarian actors is proposed that allows understanding at a micro-social level the various socio-spatial dynamics and productive areas that were reconfigured as a result of the application of neoliberal policies in the ejidos, which made possible or restricted their actions, in a region of the Mexican countryside historically considered one of the most productive agricultural regions at the national level.

The Ecology of Games approach to examining complex governance systems in democratic societies has been recently refurbished to infuse renewed vitality in the analysis of institutions and collective action in polycentric governance systems. This opening article to the special issue on the Ecology of Games Theory (EGT) will discuss the main component elements of the theory, as well as recently produced empirical advances that test and extend it. The article is structured in three sections. The first section describes the EGT as a theory of polycentricity and explains why it is critical to study both the structure and function of polycentric governance systems, including collaboration among policy stakeholders, learning about problems, and equitably distributing the resources generated by policy interactions. The second section reviews empirical evidence that examine structure and function in polycentric systems, including their coevolution. Finally, the third section will provide insights on future research needs to strengthen this newly developed theory of polycentricity.

This paper is an attempt to analyse and evaluate the models for forestry development in Bulgaria. It is important to bear in mind that the structure of forest ownership is predominantly state-owned, which requires and necessitates that the state takes on the main functions in formulating and implementing forest policy, ensuring the strategic management of the sector through the development and implementation of strategies, plans and programmes at different levels and the role of state institutions and their structures in policy implementation, management and control. In this direction, it is discussed how far the state can go without going into specific examples. Important is the structured model, which is assumed to be in line with European forestry policies. At the same time, measures and the implementation of specific activities and policies are proposed to demonstrate the better management of the sector and its vitality. In this paper we seek to develop a methodological framework for structuring and functionally managing forestry with an accompanying assessment and analysis of the management structure.

BACKGROUND: The wooden bowl is an important symbol of the Tibetan cultures, yet, in China, little has been documented regarding the raw materials used to make these items as well as their cultural significance in Tibet. This study explores the ethnobotanical uses of plants used to make wooden bowls to understand their sustainability, cultural significance, and current status of related traditional knowledge in Gyirong Town, which is one of the most famous places for wooden bowl making. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2019 and 2021, key informant interviews, semi-structured interviews, and participatory observations were used to conduct ethnobotanical field surveys in Gyirong Valley. The field work was performed with the assistance of local guides. In this study, we utilized a use-report (UR) to reflect the number of mentions of a species by locals. RESULTS: Our results show that 16 different plants are used during the wooden bowl making process, of which nine are used as raw materials, three for dyeing, and four for varnishing. Although communities rely heavily on these plants, good management and collection methods were observed. We also documented the use of Fallopia denticulata as a red dye and four species of Impatiens as wood varnishes for the first time. CONCLUSION: The wooden bowl craftsmen and their housewives have a wealth of traditional knowledge of using plants to make wooden bowls in Gyirong Town. And the wooden bowls are now also offering benefits to the locals as well. The government and local people are committed to the protection and development of traditional knowledge related to wooden bowls, and this knowledge maintains a healthy degree of vitality. This research can provide insights into the vitality of traditional handicrafts that are facing challenges and promote their protection.

Tourist destinations experience a number of influences, many out of their control. Being geographically peripheral often confers tourist appeal: being beside the sea, rural or rugged countryside, with fewer people and more space than urban centres, but is associated with being politically peripheral with less influence on local and national policies impacting on the area. To explore the impact of peripherality, this research investigated the forces affecting the tourist fortunes of the Cumbrian Solway coast, a small, remote area on the edge of Northwest England, Cumbria and close to the popular tourist area of the Lake District. Semi-structured interviews with tourism providers in the area helped identify a number of dynamic influences and 'edges', including different interpretations of the coast and countryside and political decisions about public spending on tourism. Local organisations supporting tourism to achieve different goals (landscape preservation, habitat conservation, maintaining and enhancing local services and infrastructure, community vitality, employment and prosperity) sometimes failed to align their motives and work together for common goals. The case study reflects the circumstances in many small resorts. A dialectical approach, acknowledging the constantly changing political, economic and other contexts of tourism, offers potential for future tourism research.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the meaning of quality of life of elderly tobacco farmers in the perspective of agricultural nursing.


Design/methodology/approach
This was a qualitative study with a descriptive phenomenological design conducted in rural area of Jember from November until December 2013. Seven elderly tobacco farmers participated in this study by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interview and analyzed by using a qualitative descriptive method.


Findings
Six themes emerged from data analysis included physical condition, psychological condition, activity level, social relationships, environmental condition and worship activities.


Practical implications
The role of agricultural health nurses should be optimized to improve quality of life of elderly farmers by promoting the health status of elderly farmers and the health of workplace environment.


Originality/value
Elderly tobacco farmers reported decreased health and decreased energy and vitality. Tobacco farming was considered giving heavy workload, especially during harvest season. Participants were still actively participating in activities conducted in the community and eagerly doing worship activities. The environment conditions were described as the easiness of transportation, affordability of health care facilities, safe environment and tobacco storage effects during harvest season.

The foundation of ICC in 1998 and the fact that its Statute entered into force in 2002 allowed the international community to provide a permanent legal mechanism to dissuade and repress extreme violent and cruel acts. However, the change in international scenario after the USSR fell apart, which led to the increase in political violence - preventative war/pre-emptive war - and the affirmation of exceptional policies, has had a considerable impact in the negotiation of the Statute and later in the definition of the crime of aggression, approved in the Kampala Conference. The great powers structured their negotiation strategies in terms of their long term interests, which are made evident in the approved texts, namely in the possibility of human rights securitization and the preference for selective multilateralism that the Statute and the Kampala declaration were not able to prevent, thus raising questions as to the basis for the Court and its future. The text advocates that this arrogance should not be understood as a manifestation of US vitality, which can question the legitimacy of the ICC. In fact, this hostility is a strategy for political survival aimed at maintaining the freedom of strategic action in a strategic scenario increasingly dynamic and demanding.

Neighbourhood or locality development has always been a cornerstone of community development (Rothman, 1974). The usual initiators of community development projects – municipal governments, social planning councils or community associations – are now being joined by academics and researchers, interested in using their skills, expertise and resources to contribute to neighbourhood vitality. This is the case with the Community Tables: Engaging Neighbours project, co-initiated by the United Way of Greater Victoria and the University of Victoria's Office of Community Based Research. This proposed presentation by members of the Gorge Tillicum Community Table will share their work from inception, through structured facilitation, to its move toward local autonomy and sustainability. Key learnings to be shared include: • strategies for successfully tying into existing local, citizen leadership for building local relationships, credibility and sustainability; • the importance of involving interested academics who, in addition to their academic roles, were able to participate primarily as neighbourhood residents; • an understanding that sometimes successful initiatives come more from synergy and serendipity – a good idea combining with the right mix of neighbours at the right moment – rather than from all the best structured, carefully facilitated planning; • the value associated with collaboration with local institutions, such as the public library, as long as control remains in the hands of the citizen residents; and, • the value-added from scholarship, leadership, and inspiration of academic visionaries and writers – including sharing success stories and principles of organizing. (In our case, specifically Jim Diers and John McKnight, Neighbourhood Power and Asset Based Community Development models were pivotal.) Presenters will also be happy to share information and insights from some of the actual neighbourhood initiatives taken on by the Gorge Tillicum Community Table to date, including Lights on the Gorge and the Tillicum School Community Garden.
