AbstractThis introduction describes the evolution of the conceptual framework that guided the research and analysis of findings from an international research project bringing a multi‐sited and transnational perspective to the study of the religious lives of migrant minorities. The project began by identifying potential contributions that studies of religion, migration and diversity offered one another. To research these issues, the project members investigated the lives of migrants who identify themselves as Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists, who live as minorities within three urban contexts, and whose different national regimes for governing migrant and religious diversity have been shaped historically by the British Empire (London, Johannesburg, Kajang‐Kuala Lumpur). The researchers employed a biographic method of investigation in order to examine how migrants organized their religious lives within individual, familial, communal, urban, national and transnational spheres. To understand the intertwining between migratory and religious aspects of the migrants' lives on each of these levels, the project members focused their analysis of the research findings in relation to three themes: migratory and spiritual journeys, sacred and secular place‐making, and the circulation of people, objects, practices, and faiths. The introduction highlights how each of the articles in this collection both reflect and contribute to this intellectual framing in order to understand the interplay between religion, migration, and diversity.

AbstractIn this article, we explore comparatively how migrant minorities draw from their religious resources to carve out spaces of livelihood in three global cities – Kuala Lumpur, which includes Kajang, Johannesburg and London. We also examine the spatial regimes through which the state and its apparatuses seek to manage the migrants' presence and visibility or invisibility within these urban spaces. In particular, we focus on three of the most salient dimensions of migrants' religious place making – embodied performance, the spatial management of difference and belonging, and multiple embedding across networked spaces. Although these three dimensions intersect in dynamic, often tensile ways to constitute the fabric of the life world of migrant minorities, we separate them for heuristic purposes to highlight the richness and texture of religious place making.

Resumen: En los últimos años, tras los atentados del 11 de septiembre, se ha vuelto moneda corriente eluso de términos tales como: terror, terrorismo y terrorista. Sin embargo, la utilización indiscriminada de losmismos ha llevado a perder de vista distinciones fundamentales. El presente ensayo busca dar una posibleinterpretación de estos fenómenos a la luz del vínculo establecido por Hegel entre libertad absoluta y terror.De esta manera, a partir de las consideraciones del filósofo de Stuttgart, se busca reconocer primero, que conel advenimiento de la libertad absoluta, es decir, con un estado de cosas en el cual no es posible "la diferenciaen la libertad", irrumpe necesariamente el terror. Segundo, que el advenimiento del terror engendranecesariamente el terror, de ahí por qué el terrorismo debe ser entendido como "una reversión del poder yno algo ajeno al sistema del poder". Y tercero, que ante tal panorama, quizá una buena alternativa sea laconstrucción de un poder constituyente, es decir, una democracia absoluta que tenga como referentefundamental la multitud, tal como lo han entendido Michael Hardt y Antonio Negri.Palabras clave: Libertad absoluta, terror, terrorismo, democracia, multitud.

O texto se centra no papel que a religião exerce junto a brasileiros migrantes, numa região recentemente urbanizada e geograficamente descentralizada, no Condado de Broward, Flórida, EUA. Dado o seu rápido desenvolvimento, não existem, nesta região, organizações estabelecidas de migrantes e, neste contexto, as igrejas oferecem possibilidades de criar espaços de sociabilidade, identidade coletiva e ajuda mútua. De forma ainda mais importante, a religião serve para dar sentido ao processo de migração em um ambiente hostil, vinculando tal processo à experiência profundamente emotiva do sagrado. Embora tais recursos possam ser permeados por conflitos e divergências, representam, ao mesmo tempo, elementos cruciais para uma comunidade incipiente. O texto inclui um breve perfil da comunidade brasileira, baseado em trabalho de campo realizado de 2001 a 2004 no sul da Flórida; em seguida analisa formas pelas quais os recursos religiosos são utilizados pelos brasileiros nesta região e finalmente conclui com algumas reflexões a respeito das dinâmicas de assentamento em regiões não-convencionais de migração vinda da América Latina.

Martin Hilbert is, without a doubt, one of the most outstanding researchers of recent times. From his multidisciplinary works published in scientific journals of great impact and trajectory, he has made it possible for us to understand the information society more completely. Hilbert has worked for different international organizations and is particularly interested in the role of information or big data in complex social systems. Disciple of Manuel Castells, and currently, he is an associate professor in the Communications Department of the University of California. With this interview, we wanted to delve into the way in which Hilbert sees the impact of digitalization in areas such as economics, research, politics, social sciences and humanity, in general. ; Martin Hilbert es, sin lugar a dudas, uno de los más destacados investigadores de los últimos tiempos. Desde sus trabajos multidisciplinarios publicados en revistas científicas de gran impacto y trayectoria, nos ha hecho posible entender a la sociedad de la información de manera más íntegra. Hilbert ha trabajado para distintos organismos internacionales y se interesa particularmente en el rol de la información o big data en sistemas sociales complejos. Discípulo de Manuel Castells, y actualmente, es profesor asociado en el Departamento de Comunicaciones de la Universidad de California. Con esta entrevista, hemos querido ahondar en la forma en que Hilbert ve el impacto de la digitalización en ámbitos como la economía, la investigación, la política, las ciencias sociales y la humanidad, en general.

This article examines the dynamics that have turned a recent Marian apparition on the window of a bank in Clearwater, Florida, from a local into a global phenomenon. Drawing from theories of globalization, we show how the apparition exemplifies what sociologist Roland Robertson refers to as the mutually implicative `universalization of particularism and the particularization of universalism'. Among the factors analyzed are global pilgrimage, transnational migration, mediascapes (particularly through the Internet) and the Vatican's New Evangelization initiative. On the basis of this case study, the article argues for the need to go beyond secularization theory - the dominant modernist approach to religion and social change - and to adopt a flexible, polymethodological framework that takes into account the complex, and often contradictory, relations between the local and the global and the mediating roles religion plays.

El discurso populista ha encontrado en las redes sociales en un gran aliado para la difusión de mansajes. La presente investigación tuvo la finalidad de analizar el impacto de los mensajes políticos de corte populista en las redes sociales Facebook y Twi!er entre jóvenes electores de la ciudad de Lima. Se buscó identificar a través de encuestas probabilísticas y estratificadas por niveles socioeconómicos, si los jóvenes tienden a aceptar los enunciados populistas de izquierda y derecha manifestados en las redes sociales. En una segunda etapa, a través de una metodología experimental, se buscó evidenciar los tipos de interacción frente a noticias falsas y verdaderas cargadas de información relacionada a temas populistas. Los resultados de la investigación evidenciaron una alta aceptación de discursos y enunciados populistas de izquierda como de derecha entre los jóvenes limeños, así como la tendencia a interactuar en las redes con noticias falsas cargadas de contenido populista. ; The populist discourse has found in social networks a great ally for the dissemination of messages. The purpose of this research was to analyze the impact of populist political messages on social networks Facebook and Twi!er among young voters in the city of Lima. We sought to identify through probabilistic surveys that were stratified by socioeconomic levels, if young people tend to accept the populist statements of the le" and right manifested in social networks. In a second stage, through an experimental methodology, we sought to show the types of interaction against fake news and real news loaded with information related to populist issues. The results of the investigation showed a high acceptance of populist speeches and statements from the le" and from the right among the young people of Lima, as well as the tendency to interact with fake news on social networks loaded with populist content.

En el municipio de Durango existen seis empresas que elaboran mezcal, cuatro de estas están certificadas . La materia prima se extrae de plantaciones silvestres, el 72% proviene de los campos del Ejido Nicolás Romero. La posibilidad de producción de mezcal es de 528,092 litros al año, esta cantidad rebasa en 5 veces la capacidad de producción máxi ma proyectada , de acuerdo a la infraestructura instalada . Las empresas certificadas tienen mayores costos de producción pero también mayores utilidades que las vinatas . El costo en el mercado de una botella de mezcal de 750 ml es de $138.00 más IVA, mientr as que el precio de una botella de la misma capacidad , elaborado en las empresas rústicas oscila entre $30.00 y $70.00. Las empresas certificadas producen el mezcal siguiendo l os criterios de producción y envasado de la a NOM - 070 - SCFI - 1994 . Las empresas rústicas no siguen esta norma , almacenando y vendiendo el producto en cualquier tipo de botellas, ta nto de vidrio como de plástico. Se concluye que la producción de mezcal puede ser rentable si los productores se asocian y certifican su producto , especialm ente en la producción de maguey y el proceso de envasado . Esto por un lado, contribuiría a conservar la biodiversidad en los sitios de donde se extrae la planta actualmente y p o r otro, disminuiría la intervención de los intermediarios contribuyendo a la ob tención de mayores ingresos económicos para los productores de mezcal.
