Seit dem 1. 1. 1999 ist in Deutschland die Restschuldbefreiung von privaten Schulden gesetzlich möglich. Die Insolvenzordnung sieht hierfür ein pädagogisches Programm vor, mit dem sich die Überschuldeten als 'redlich' (InsO §1) und somit der finanziellen Schuldbefreiung würdig erweisen. Was aber macht Redlichkeit im Kontext von Verschuldung aus? Die geforderten Haltungen zeigen eine neoliberale Prägung: Selbstaktivierung, Selbstauskunft, Eigenverantwortlichkeit. Anhand von narrationsanalytisch ausgewerteten Interviews mit Verschuldeten zeigt die Autorin, wie diese Anforderungen und damit die Schuld an den Schulden internalisiert werden. Mit der Untersuchung des Erzählens als diskursiv anschlussfähiger Akt der Selbstkonstitution leistet das Buch nicht zuletzt einen methodologischen Beitrag zur empirischen Subjektivierungsforschung. With a focus on migrant narratives, or the storytelling about migration, this volume considers the ways in which migration is and has been shaped by individual and collective experiences of agency, belonging and community.

Driven by an agenda of deep listening, each chapter presents a narrative directly derived from qualitative research, an outline of the methodological framing as well as narrative analysis. Through close attention to the narrative, its performative aspects and its ruptures and silences, authors identify patterns and material in the fabric of such telling and retelling of stories that open up new perspectives on the migrant experience. This book develops a methodology of ""dwelling with stories"" that allows for sustained and slow interrogation of the migrant experience and the accompanying decisions that shape narratives around mobility across borders. Its structure is innovative by emphasising the migrant voice and reflecting on the scholars' positionality, while also offering new theoretical contributions that will advance the field of narrative analysis.
The book will appeal to academics, students and practitioners in a wide range of subject areas within the humanities and social sciences, including anthropology, sociology, human geography, migration/refugee/diaspora studies and oral history.

AbstractPurposeDomestic violence (DV) is a problem of global significance and remains a gendered issue that disproportionately affects women and children. Prevalence studies on women's experiences of DV suggest that around 50% of victims identify as mothers. The effects of DV on mothers and children are well documented, raising implications for their protection. Civil protection orders are a legal tool used to reduce and prevent experiences of DV. Research on protection order effectiveness is mixed with research suggesting that the ongoing relationship between a respondent and aggrieved parent around child contact presents ongoing opportunities for re-victimization. This study contributes to the scant literature on the implications of protection orders on parental responsibilities.MethodThe study draws on surveys with duty lawyers and focus groups with police officers. A thematic analysis was used to examine perceptions and experiences of 'no contact' protection orders and respondent parent non-compliance where mutual children are involved.ResultsFindings suggest that ambiguous 'no contact' conditions and a lack of clarity around their implications for child contact play a key role in respondent parent non-compliance, ranging from uninformed non-compliance to the strategic use of children as a form of coercive control in non-compliance.ConclusionFindings raise implications for specialist legal advice and support for parents affected by DV to sit alongside protection order court proceedings. Findings highlight the need for greater system accountability to ensure court-issued protection orders take a family-centred approach that align with parental responsibilities and ensure child and adult victims' safety and wellbeing.

AbstractIndigenous women are disproportionately affected by the prevalence and severity of domestic and family violence (DFV) perpetrated by men against women in Australia. The impact of their experiences is further exacerbated by the level of social and cultural marginalisation affecting Indigenous communities, families and individuals along with regional, rural or remote living. The pervasive, ongoing impact of colonisation, dispossession and transgenerational trauma continues to shape the experiences of Indigenous women and their communities, including their help‐seeking decisions and opportunities, and their level of trust in and access to adequate and culturally sensitive support services. In this paper, we explore the experiences of Indigenous women affected by DFV in two regional Australian settings through face‐to‐face interviews with women (n = 13) and community stakeholders (n = 18). The findings of this study highlight the complex role of social and cultural marginalisation, spiritual (dis)connectedness and role of family as both a stressor and a protective factor. Implications for policy and practice are discussed.

In the first weeks of March 2020, most Australian states and territories, like many other jurisdictions, entered into a period of government‐directed restrictions including stay‐at‐home orders, physical distancing limitations and closure of a significant number of community services. With more people confined to their homes, the risk of DFV increased at the same time as access to support services was reduced. In this article, we present the findings of two surveys conducted in the Australian states of Victoria and Queensland to explore the professional experiences of practitioners supporting women experiencing violence during the pandemic. Our analysis offers new insights into the ways in which practitioners pivoted their services to respond remotely to women experiencing violence and the challenges of effectively undertaking safety planning and risk assessment without face‐to‐face contact. The second half of this article examines the implications of remote service delivery on practitioner mental health and well‐being. The findings have global relevance and reveal the critical need to prioritize well‐being supports for DFV practitioners in crisis response plans.
