It is often said that China is walking a tightrope: its economy depends on foreign money, its leadership is set in its ways, and its military expansion threatens the world. But it is argued here that China's most severe risks are ecological, not economic, Chinese nationalism is on the rise, China's rise will probably not lead to military conflict, the country isn't as dependent on foreign money as it is often supposed, its banks remain stable, and the country is not headed for another Tiananmen crisis.
