The dataset contains a textual corpus of references in psychological academic literature concerning youth participation, engagement and active citizenship. The references were retrieved from the electronic database PsycINFO, which is one of the most important bibliographic sources for international literature in psychology. The research was carried out on 30 August 2016, using each of the following terms: "active citizenship", "civic engagement" or "political engagement", "civic participation" or "political participation", "activism". The key terms that were used were chosen by the authors as most relevant in youth participation literature that treats particularly the public civic and political sphere. These were required to appear together with words denoting young people: "youth*" or "young*", "teen*" or "adolescen*" and delimited to titles, abstracts, keywords or subjects. The analyzed literature consists of 1777 selected entries published between 1990 and mid-2016. The dataset includes the following information: specific identifying information about the text itself (type/year/title/author/journal or book title/author affiliation); as well as information on the search terms used to retrieve the publication; and finally, the abstract/summary retrieved from the PsycInfo database. The corpus was used in specific lexicometric content analysis and the dataset allows its replication or further textual analyses.

The purpose of this paper is to show how the elements of oral literature interpolate in the contemporary literature for children and youth of the prominent Bosnian-Herzegovinian authors Alija Isaković and Ljubica Ostojić.Firstly, this Paper theoretically elaborates on the presence of the elements of oral literature in the literature for children and youth. These two different literary directions touch each other at their roots, and in the contemporary interpolation, they exist parallelly in the genre re-semanticization of the elements of oral literature. Following theoretical postulates of the most prominent authors from the South-Slavic Interliterary Community in the field of researching oral literature and literature for children and youth, we will show how the linguistic-stylistic heritage is re-interpreted through the traditional oral literary forms in the texts of contemporary authors, and how the elements of orality appear in new narrative structures- short stories and fairy tales of a new type. We will show how the rhetorical and rhythmical values of a text spill over in linguistic audacity, and how old oral structures; folk songs, and folk tales are narratively defamiliarized, deconstructed, and parodied.

AbstractThis paper examines the impact underground literature (yeraltı
edebiyatı) has on influencing the opinions and beliefs
of Turkey's youth regarding issues of contemporary importance. In
order to understand the relevance of this genre to Turkish youth culture, we
have not only examined the debate surrounding the topic in popular and academic
circles, but also asked the readers themselves their opinions about their
experience with the genre (in both its imported Western and homegrown Turkish
variants) and its relevance to their lives. For our purposes, the
effect of such texts on readers is the primary
focus, and ours is the first mixed-media study to conduct a methodological,
data-based investigation into the composition and opinions of underground
literature's readers. Thus, our study supplements a lack in the
existing scholarship by offering concrete qualitative and quantitative data that
will better elucidate our knowledge of the relationship between underground
literature and Turkish youth attitudes, as well as the potential the genre might
hold for the future of Turkey's youth.

AbstractThis article reviews the research literature on teaching and supporting purpose in adolescence and young adulthood. An extensive search revealed that most studies on youth purpose examine psychological correlates and neglect instructional and social supports. School is an effective context for fostering purpose, yet reported approaches for explicitly instructing for purpose are rare after the early 1990s, reflecting a trend away from a language of purpose as a discrete endeavor in education since at least the 1960s. Furthermore, research on the outcomes of early purpose instruction curricula is not present in empirical journal articles. Nevertheless, a concern for fostering youth purpose has not disappeared from education; rather, it is subsumed under approaches that foster more comprehensive positive student outcomes, such as character, civic engagement, and positive youth development. Key curricular approaches to these outcomes are therefore also reviewed and examined for insights into how purpose can be fostered.

Speaking in a very general way, youth and age have been taken in traditional Chinese literature as two stages in a continuous development of which the first represents the preparation and the last the goal. Respective values attached to these stages were derived from this concept. In a civilisation where literature, even polite literature, was to a large extent an amateurish pursuit of the scholar-official, this evaluation does not come as a surprise, particularly since it will not be easy to find another civilisation which was as strongly ideology-motivated as was the Chinese. Established attitudes concerning youth and age were thus, in general, accepted and taken for granted also by the poet.

The increasing diversity of youth in the United States necessitates a shift in the ways that youth services and programming are designed and implemented. This article examines existing scholarship on developing the cultural competency of volunteers in youth development programs in an effort to improve 4-H YDP protocol. Drawing from a diverse, interdisciplinary range of peer-reviewed, academic articles, this literature review plots out recent pedagogical trends, theoretical concepts, and empirical studies dealing with the cultural competence of service workers and mentors interacting with youth. Based on a synthesis of the findings, this paper presents guiding principles for increasing cultural competence of youth program design through both training and organizational changes.

Suicide among young people in Australia remains at unacceptably high levels. Government financial contribution to the National Youth Suicide Prevention Strategy in the late 1980s and 1990s has assisted in raising the profile of this issue. Although there has been a recent slight decline, young people continue to commit suicide. For each suicide death it is estimated that up to six people are directly affected. Yet, these 'suicide survivors' remain isolated in grief, with their experience rarely understood by those unaffected. A review of the literature suggests conflicting reports, with little detailed information gleaned directly from parents, about this experience. Often as frontline workers in suicide death, social workers are uniquely placed to appreciate the familial experience of suicide. This paper presents a review of the research literature that informs current knowledge of parental and family bereavement through suicide, highlights gaps in knowledge, and the relevance of social work practice with this group.

The provision of financial incentives to youth involved in research remains an understudied and contentious issue. Although the practice is common and often accepted, a comprehensive understanding of the current status of the literature regarding the potential benefits and limitations is lacking. The primary question this article seeks to answer is as follows: "What are the concerns and best practices identified in the literature for the appropriate and ethical provision of incentives to children and adolescents?" Following a thorough review and screening process, 25 articles were selected and central themes were identified within them. Themes include the following: the wage-payment model, effectiveness for recruitment, effectiveness for retention, financial versus alternative incentives, coerciveness, influence on validity of results, and other ethical dilemmas. Gaps in the literature are discussed. Overall, the literature suggests financial incentives can be provided appropriately to children as long as necessary precautions are taken.

This article examines the main assessments of modern Western researchers regarding the mass youth consciousness of China in the XX and XXI centuries, as well as the official state youth policy of the country implemented in the periods under consideration and its influence on youth as a social and political force.
