The effect of the nonperturbative corrections such as target mass corrections and dynamical higher twist effects, perturbative evolution of the parton densities, nuclear medium modifications in the nucleon structure functions, and nuclear isoscalarity corrections on the weak nuclear structure functions have been discussed. These structure functions have been used to obtain the differential scattering cross-sections. The various nuclear medium effects such as the Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions, shadowing and antishadowing corrections relevant in the different regions of x and Q(2) have been discussed. The numerical results for the structure functions and the cross-sections are compared with some of the available experimental data including the recent results from MINERvA. Journal of High Energy Physics 2015.10 (2015): 130 reproduced by permission of Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) ; We perform a detailed study of the importance of loop corrections when deriving bounds on heavy-active neutrino mixing in the context of general Seesaw mechanisms with extra heavy right-handed neutrinos. We find that, for low-scale Seesaws with an approximate B − L symmetry characterized by electroweak scale Majorana masses and large Yukawas, loop corrections could indeed become relevant in a small part of the parameter space. Previous results in the literature showed that a partial cancellation between these important loop corrections and the tree level contributions could relax some constraints and lead to qualitatively different results upon their inclusion. However, we find that this cancellation can only take place in presence of large violations of the B −L symmetry, that lead to acceptably large contributions to the light neutrino masses at loop level. Thus, when we restrict our analysis of the key observables to an approximate B − L symmetry so as to recover the correct values for neutrino masses, we always find loop corrections to be negligible in the regions of the parameter space preferred by data ; We are happy to acknowledge very illuminating discussions with Mattias Blennow, Belen Gavela, Stefano Rigolin and Alfredo Urbano. We consider the effect of NSI on the neutrino propagation through the SN envelope within a three-neutrino framework, paying special attention to the inclusion of NSI-induced resonant conversions, which may take place in the most deleptonized inner layers. We study the possibility of detecting NSI effects in a Megaton water Cherenkov detector, either through modulation effects in the (nu)[overline](e) spectrum due to (i) the passage of shock waves through the SN envelope, (ii) the time dependence of the electron fraction, and (iii) the Earth matter effects; or, finally, through the possible detectability of the neutronization nu(e) burst. We find that the (nu)[overline](e) spectrum can exhibit dramatic features due to the internal NSI-induced resonant conversion. In Virgin Mary and the Neutrino, first published in French in 2006 and here appearing in English for the first time, Isabelle Stengers experiments with the possibility of addressing modern practices not as a block but through their divergence from each other. Drawing on thinkers ranging from John Dewey to Gilles Deleuze, she develops what she calls an "ecology of practices" into a capacious and heterogeneous perspective that is inclusive of cultural and political forces but not reducible to them. Stengers first advocates for an approach to sciences that would emphasize the way each should be situated by the kind of relationships demanded by what it attempts to address. This approach turns away from the disabling scientific/nonscientific binary—like the opposition between the neutrino and the Virgin Mary. An ecology of practices instead stimulates an appetite for thinking reality not as an arbiter but as what we can relate to through the generation of diverging concerns and obligations

Journal of High Energy Physics 2012.4 (2012): 089 reproduced by permission of Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) ; Up to now, future neutrino beam experiments have been designed and optimized in order to look for CP violation, θ13 and the mass hierarchy under the conservative assumption that θ13 is very small. However, the recent results from T2K and MINOS favor a θ13 which could be as large as 8°. In this work, we propose a re-optimization for neutrino beam experiments in case this hint is confirmed. By switching from the first to the second oscillation peak, we find that the CP discovery potential of future oscillation experiments would not only be enhanced, but it would also be less affected by systematic uncertainties. In order to illustrate the effect, we present our results for a Super-Beam experiment, comparing the results obtained at the first and the second oscillation peaks for several values of the systematic errors. We also study its combination with a β-beam facility and show that the synergy between both experiments would also be enhanced due to the larger L/E. Journal of High Energy Physics 2013.11 (2013): 187 reproduced by permission of Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) ; We analyze the structure of quark and lepton mass matrices under the hypothesis that they are determined from a minimum principle applied to a generic potential invariant under the [SU(3)]5 ⊗ O (3) flavor symmetry, acting on Standard Model fermions and right-handed neutrinos. Unlike the quark case, we show that hierarchical masses for charged leptons are naturally accompanied by degenerate Majorana neutrinos with one mixing angle close to maximal, a second potentially large, a third one necessarily small, and one maximal relative Majorana phase. Adding small perturbations the predicted structure for the neutrino mass matrix is in excellent agreement with present observations and could be tested in the near future via neutrino-less double beta decay and cosmological measurements. Motivated by the identification of the blazar TXS 0506+056 as the first promising high-energy neutrino counterpart candidate, we search for additional neutrino blazar candidates among the Fermi-Large Area Telescope detected blazars. We investigate the multiwavelength behavior from radio to GeV gamma-rays of blazars found to be in spatial coincidence with single high-energy neutrinos and lower-energy neutrino flare candidates. In addition, we compare the average gamma-ray emission of the potential neutrino-emitting sources to the entire sample of gamma-ray blazars. In Long-Baseline-Oszillationsexperimente mit künstlichen hochintensiven Neutrinostrahlen von Neutrinofabriken legen Neutrinos Distanzen von mehreren tausend Kilometern durch den Erdmantel zurück. Ermöglicht werden dadurch Präzisionsmessungen der fundamentalen Neutrinoparameter (Mischungswinkel, Massenquadratdifferenzen und CP-Phase), sowie einen Nachweis resonanter Materieeffekte. In dieser Arbeit wird durch numerische Simulation und analytische Studien das Potential einer Neutrinofabrik bezüglich dieser Messungen untersucht. Die Ergebnisse der Studie dienen zur Optimierung der Maschinenparameter einer zukünftigen Neutrinofabrik sowie zu einem forschungspolitisch relevanten Vergleich mit alternativen Konzepten. ; In long baseline oscillation experiments with high intensive neutrino beams from neutrino factories, the neutrinos travel distances of some thousand kilometers through the mantle of the Earth. This enables precision measurements of the fundamental neutrino parameters (mixing angles, mass differences and CP-phase), as well as a dedicated test of resonant matter effects. In this work a numerical neutrino factory simulation is presented and applied for the study of the potential of a neutrino factory with regard to these measurements. The results of this study together with analytical considerations help to optimize the machine parameters of a future neutrino factory and are basis for political important comparisons with alternative concepts.

If n(e) is comparable to n(nu), one finds multiangle decoherence, whereas the standard self-induced transformation behavior requires that in the transformation region n(nu) is safely above n(e). This condition need not be satisfied in the early phase after the supernova core bounce. Models of dark energy in which neutrinos interact with the scalar field supposed to be responsible for the acceleration of the Universe usually imply a variation of the neutrino masses on cosmological time scales. In this work we propose a parametrization for the neutrino mass variation that captures the essentials of those scenarios and allows one to constrain them in a model independent way, that is, without resorting to any particular scalar field model. Using WMAP 5 yr data combined with the matter power spectrum of SDSS and 2dFGRS, the limit on the present value of the neutrino mass is m(0) equivalent to m(nu)(z = 0) 0), totally consistent with no mass variation. These stringent bounds on the mass variation are not related to the neutrino freestreaming history which may affect the matter power spectrum on small scales. On the contrary, they are imposed by the fact that any significant transfer of energy between the neutrino and dark energy components would lead to an instability contradicting CMB and large-scale structure data on the largest observable scales. ; We would like to thank Luca Amendola, Alberto Fernández-Soto, Gennaro Miele, Miguel Quartin, Rogerio Rosenfeld, and José W.F. Linkable to MUSIC [2] and PROPOSAL [3]. Nature of problem: Development of a code to generate detectable events in neutrino telescopes, using modern and maintained neutrino interaction simulation libraries which include the state-of-the-art physics models. The default application is the simulation of neutrino interactions within KM3NeT [4]. Solution method: Neutrino interactions are simulated using GENIE, a modern framework for Monte Carlo event generators. The GENIE framework, used by nearly all modern neutrino experiments, is considered as a reference code within the neutrino community. Additional comments including restrictions and unusual features: The code was tested with GENIE version 2.12.10 and it is linkable with release series 3. Presently valid up to 5 TeV.
