The published res into the situation of ethnic minorities in business & employment in the UK is reviewed & the following major determinants of their situation are noted: (1) the att's & behavior of manag; (2) the att's & behavior of local British labor; (3) the activities of trade unions; (4) the activities of voluntary org's outside industry; (5) the actions of local & central gov. A distinction is drawn between policy-oriented res which has dramatized the negative, racial aspects of the situation & has had some influence, after many yrs inaetion, on private & public attempts to improve the situation, on the one hand, & academic res'es which have utilized the Eisenstadttype framework of absorption, & have had relatively little impact on the actions of gov, on the other hand. A deeper & more realistic analysis will become possible once the structure of interests & the structure of control in the work situation become the focal point of study, rather than the current preoccupation with att's . Broadly, genetic assimilation may be taken to mean the process by which groups acquire similar genes to one another. In the case of ethnic minorities, this usually involves a minority group and the surrounding majority population. Our knowledge of the genetics of human populations is imperfect and we may declare that only a small fraction of the total set of genes we possess may be identified. These genes may be divided into three subsets:(1) genes which are known and have known effects upon characteristics of those who possess them;(2) genes which are known and may be identified but have no known effects;(3) genes which are unknown, presumed to be awaiting discovery.

China's fifty-five officially recognised ethnic minorities form about 8% of the Chinese population, with over 100 million people, and occupy over 60% of China's territory. They are very diverse, and the degree of modernisation among them varies greatly. This book examines the current state of China's ethnic minorities at a time when ethnic affairs and globalisation are key forces affecting the contemporary world. It considers the fields of policy, economy, society and international relations, including the impact of globalisation and outside influences.
