Die Politbarometer werden seit 1977 etwa monatlich von der Forschungsgruppe Wahlen für das Zweite Deutsche Fernsehen (ZDF) durchgeführt. Seit 1990 steht diese Datenbasis auch für die neuen Bundesländer zur Verfügung. Im Zentrum der Untersuchung stehen die Meinungen und Einstellungen der wahlberechtigten Bevölkerung in der Bundesrepublik zu aktuellen politischen Themen, Parteien und Politikern sowie dem Wahlverhalten. 1990 bis 1995 und ab 1999 wurden die Politbarometer-Umfragen in den neuen und alten Bundesländern getrennt durchgeführt (Politbarometer Ost bzw. Politbarometer West). Die monatlichen Einzelumfragen eines Jahres werden in einen kumulierten Datensatz integriert, der alle Erhebungen eines Jahres und alle Variablen des jeweiligen Jahrganges umfasst. Ab 2003 sind die Politbarometer-Kurzbefragungen, die unterschiedlich häufig im Jahr erhoben werden, in die Jahreskumulation integriert.

The Syrian uprising has evolved into a civil war. The lines between the various communities making up the Syrian mosaic have become more evident. Intercommunal resentments that have been repressed for decades have begun to resurface. The regime, which has long exploited the different communities, is unable to control the "sectarian" movement of the conflict. International audience ; Aux lendemains du G20 de Toronto en 2010, où plus de mille manifestants anticapitalistes ont été arrêtés, le public canadien découvre sur la toile les récits-vidéos de militants témoignant des brutalités policières et de la violation des droits civils : une manifestante est jetée au sol et tirée par le bras jusqu'à un véhicule de police, un homme âgé perd sa prothèse de jambe. Ces récits-vidéos concurrencent les reportages des grandes rédactions. Les interconnexions tissées au fil des jours grâce aux commentaires, réponses et hyperliens des internautes créent un genre alternatif d'information. Une investigation ethnographique de YouTube et Viméo nous permet d'étudier les différentes stratégies de négociation de l'information privée/publique dans les sphères publiques interconnectées et la gestion de l'accès technique et symbolique à l'identité du producteur et aux contenus dans les médias sociaux. Les appropriations faites par les militants révèlent des circuits locaux d'information et de pouvoir. Nous voulons voir comment ces dynamiques de savoir et de socialité contribuent à la construction d'une expertise informationnelle des militants.

International audience Background: Many studies of cerebral asymmetries in different species lead, on the one hand, to a better understanding of the functions of each cerebral hemisphere and, on the other hand, to develop an evolutionary history of hemispheric laterality. Our animal model is particularly interesting because of its original evolutionary path, i.e. return to aquatic life after a terrestrial phase. The rare reports concerning visual laterality of marine mammals investigated mainly discrimination processes. As dolphins are migrant species they are confronted to a changing environment. Being able to categorize new versus familiar objects would allow dolphins a rapid adaptation to novel environments. Visual laterality could be a prerequisite to this adaptability. To date, no study, to our knowledge, has analyzed the environmental factors that could influence their visual laterality.Results: We investigated visual laterality expressed spontaneously at the water surface by a group of five common bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in response to various stimuli. The stimuli presented ranged from very familiar objects (known and manipulated previously) to familiar objects (known but never manipulated) to unfamiliar objects (unknown, never seen previously). At the group level, dolphins used their left eye to observe very familiar objects and their right eye to observe unfamiliar objects. However, eyes are used indifferently to observe familiar objects with intermediate valence.Conclusion: Our results suggest different visual cerebral processes based either on the global shape of well-known objects or on local details of unknown objects. Moreover, the manipulation of an object appears necessary for these dolphins to construct a global representation of an object enabling its immediate categorization for subsequent use. Our experimental results pointed out some cognitive capacities of dolphins which might be crucial for their wild life given their fission-fusion social system and migratory behaviour.

"Online-Umfragen werden in den Sozialwissenschaften immer beliebter, so auch in der Wahlforschung. Zahlreiche Studien konnten jedoch zeigen, dass sich Teilnehmer/innen an Online-Umfragen nicht nur hinsichtlich des soziodemographischen Hintergrunds, sondern auch der politischen Einstellungen von Teilnehmer/innen an persönlich-mündlichen oder telefonischen Umfragen deutlich unterscheiden. Bei Analysen des Wählerverhaltens sind diese Unterschiede jedoch unproblematisch, wenn sich die Zusammenhänge zwischen den Untersuchungsmerkmalen im Rahmen der verschiedenen Befragungsmodi ähnlich gestalten und somit die Wahlentscheidung durch dieselben Faktoren erklärt werden kann. Der vorliegende Beitrag widmet sich der Betrachtung dieser Zusammenhänge, indem Modelle des Wahlverhaltens miteinander verglichen werden, die mit Daten verschiedener Umfragemodi berechnet wurden. Hierfür werden Daten der German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES) herangezogen, da im Rahmen dieses Projekts im Vorfeld der Bundestagswahl 2009 eine persönlich-mündliche, eine telefonische und mehrere Online-Umfragen nahezu zeitgleich durchgeführt wurden, was ideale Bedingungen für einen Vergleich der verschiedenen Umfragemodi bietet. Diese Untersuchung trägt somit dazu bei, die Eignung von Online-Umfragen für Analysen der empirischen Wahlforschung besser einschätzen zu können." (Autorenreferat)

Wie nützen vor diesem Hintergrund die ÖsterreicherInnen unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten der Information und Meinungsbildung zum Thema Atomkraft? In welchem Zusammenhang zur Mediennutzung stehen das Wissen und die grundlegende Position bezüglich Kernenergie? Zu diesen Fragen werden empirische Ergebnisse einer Meinungsumfrage präsentiert: Vorläufig dominieren als Informationsquellen noch Presse und Rundfunk. Bei den soziodemographischen Faktoren erweisen sich vor allem Alter, Geschlecht und Bildung als einflussreich. "After the breakdown of Communist regimes in the East at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s unparalleled societal transitory processes have evolved and reshaped the political world map. Political and functional elites have played a decisive role in the multi-layered process of societal transformation. Today's Central and East European societies face new challenges that only partly emerged from the socialist legacy. How have representative and functional elites in East and Central Europe affected and been affected by this transformation? Have they found and embraced strategies of change or have they sought ways of persistence? The emergence, the success or failure, and the survival or replacement of elites is closely bound to these questions. Accordingly, the international research into elite continuity and elite discontinuity addresses issues of recruitment, careers, and analyses the respective socio-political frameworks." "As historical evidence shows, there are multiple roads to such different forms of capitalism as 'traditional commercial capitalism' and 'political capitalism'. And, following Weber, not all of these forms can trigger the long term stable economic growth associated with Western rational capitalism. Although previous sociological analyses have improved our understanding of post-socialism, they have generated more controversy than theoretical convergence. This is because, the author contends, many sociological studies have neglected the political and historical aspects involved in the construction of markets in the former communist bloc. In this paper the author discusses the features of political capitalism in post-communist Romania, a case that has been infrequently addressed by mainstream analyses of Central and Eastern Europe. Specifically, the author analyzes the rise of political capitalism as an effect of Romania' s communist and post-communist political-institutional histories." (author's abstract)

Primärforscher sind die Generaldirektion Kommunikation und bei Spezialthemen weitere Direktionen sowie das Europäische Parlament. Im Laufe der Zeit wurden Kandidaten- und Beitrittsländer in die Standard Eurobarometer-Reihe aufgenommen. Ausgewählte Fragen oder Module können in einigen Samples nicht erhoben worden sein. We revisit the question of why fertility behaviors and educational decisions appear to vary systematically across ethnic groups. We assess the possibility that fertility differentials across groups remain even though their socio-economic characteristics are similar. More specifically, we consider that parents' fertility decisions are affected by the uncertainty concerning the future economic status of their off-spring. We assume that this uncertainty varies across groups and is linked to the size of the group one belongs to. The transition path gives support to the minority status hypothesis according to which minority members usually have a higher fertility facing low potential for social mobility but may in some instances strategically decrease their fertility.
