We aimed to examine the comprehensive effects of individual personality traits, interpersonal conflict-handling styles, and organizational characteristics on job satisfaction as perceived by childcare teachers. The sample comprised 179 childcare teachers in South Korea. Survey results
revealed that organizational characteristics, such as rewards, director support, collegial relationships, and participation in organizational decision making, positively affected job satisfaction. In addition, job satisfaction was increased by the influence dimension of personality profiles,
whereas it was not significantly influenced by conflict-handling styles. The findings in this study suggest that the structural and operating conditions of childcare centers should be improved to increase teachers' job satisfaction.

In Kaixiangong village, south-east China, the ordinary villagers seek ways to cope with change and improve their lives by constantly maintaining and managing relationships not only between themselves but also with the state. Fieldwork carried out on social support from state or private sources (1979–96), has been supplemented with material from 1936 to the present. The findings show the majority of villagers' resource-seeking actions are rooted in implicit cultural models and patterns of social relationships, a Chinese model of social relationships and reciprocity; the current situation results from reciprocal influence and accommodation between villagers and the state over a long period.

Up to now, many political scientists and commentators have argued that support for Donald Trump is 'capped', given that he and Senator Ted Cruz (TX) are competing for the same pool of antiestablishment voters. Using new survey data from South Carolina Republican voters, Matthew C. MacWilliams finds that, along with concerns about terrorism, authoritarianism is a major predictor of people's support for Donald Trump, and not a predictor of support for Ted Cruz. With these findings in mind, he argues that so long as people are concerned about outside threats – concerns which Trump is stoking – his support will continue to grow.

This paper aims to explain the dynamics of balance of power between China and India in a historical perspective. We shall conduct case studies to demonstrate how China and India seek to counterbalance each other in three strategic geographical areas: South Asia, Southeast Asia and at the Indian Ocean Rim. In order to do so, we will examine variables such as arms transfers, military spending, bilateral and multilateral agreements, joint military exercises, and the role of non-Asian actors. The paper concludes that nowadays balance pattern between China and India reflects preferences towards alignments and arms build-up as the main strategic behavior.

We examine the international variations in portfolio diversification benefits from an angle of global wealth management. We directly model the impact of widely observed phenomenon, home bias and no short-sales, on international investments with the aim to establish feasible diversification strategies and to identify which countries and/or regions are target markets for wealth management. Our results indicate that investors in less developed countries, particularly in East Asia and South Asia, reap greater benefits from international diversification than investors in the rest of the world. These benefits are particularly noticeable in volatility reduction. Our results reveal important insights for global wealth management.

This paper attempts to capture the link between reform and development of the Nigerian banking sector. As a single-resource economy, Nigeria's development is embedded in a dependence framework in which commission forms the basis of primitive accumulation. The analysis, which is based on empirical evidence from primary and secondary sources, shows capital flight, toxic assets, abnormal profitability and margin banking in the Nigerian reform. It argues that within the framework of dependence reformism tied to metropolitan technology, reforms cannot produce mega banks. Backward integration offers Nigeria the hope for transiting from economically underdeveloped south to economically developed north.

Indigenous peoples in Australia are actively engaging in research in ways never before seen. Indigenous voices are centring themselves in the research process and in the stories told as a result of more than two centuries of research that has defined, categorised, and castigated us as peoples. This article centres Australian Indigenous peoples' voices and experiences in the research process and in the storys1told. Sixty-five Indigenous peoples interviewed in four communities from New South Wales and Western Australia are 'talkin up' their experiences of being researched to death. The article then moves to a discussion about the need for linguistic competence, decolonisation, and Indigenous ontological and epistemological frameworks in research contexts.

Pacific Islanders experience enduring and growing poverty in the United States, yet our understanding of their financial distress and needs is limited. Financial institutions, government agencies, and community-based organizations in areas with large Pacific Islander communities need better information with which to develop tailored programs, improve outreach and education, and improve economic security for these and other underserved populations. This paper describes the results from a unique in-language survey that asked detailed questions regarding the financial knowledge, status, and needs of Pacific Islanders, including poverty and wealth questions beyond those in the Census, in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties of Southern California.

After a brief introduction of the existing literature on environmental pioneer states and their internal characteristics, this study examines various low-carbon green growth (LCGG) initiatives that the South Korean government introduced to market Korea as a trendsetter in the global environmental arena. The country's domestic foundations for environmental innovation, however, reveals a dissonance between its international aspirations and the internal conditions that are needed to sustain the pursuit. This case of mixed environmental achievements by a rising middle-power state suggests the insufficiency of a state-led approach to environmental innovation and leadership. (Pac Rev/GIGA)

Data from a cross-national survey (N = 801) of young adults in Australia, the Philippines, South Korea, and the U.S. (Guam, Hawaii, Continental U.S.) were analyzed to explore the relationships between the three subcomponents of the immersion motivation of video game play—discovery, role-play, and customization (Yee, 2006)—creative self-efficacy, and political participation. Findings reveal role-play and creative self-efficacy are positively associated with political participation; discovery and role-play are positively associated with creative self-efficacy. Furthermore, discovery, role-play, and customization had small indirect effects on political participation via creative self-efficacy.

We collect a new dataset on capital punishment in the United States and we propose a test of racial bias based upon patterns of sentence reversals. We model the courts as minimizing type I and II errors. If trial courts were unbiased, conditional on defendant's race the error rate should be independent of the victim's race. Instead we uncover 3 and 9 percentage points higher reversal rates in direct appeal and habeas corpus cases, respectively, against minority defendants who killed whites. The pattern for white defendants is opposite but not statistically significant. This bias is confined to Southern states. (JEL J15, K41, K42)

The purpose of this study was to compare attitudes of older versus younger lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals regarding marriage equality. Data were collected via self-report questionnaires from 350 LGBT adults in a mid-size city in the southern United States. Older and younger LGBT cohorts did not differ significantly in voter registration, political party affiliation, awareness of LGBT political issues, or voting on social issues. Older LGBT adults were less likely to find same-sex marriage important. Yet, age cohorts did not differ significantly on legalizing same-sex marriage. Social work implications are discussed regarding this policy area.

This paper examines whether or not the South Asian Association Regional Cooperation (SAARC), can introduce a single currency across the region. A four-variable structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) model is used to identify the underlying shocks and to examine the correlation in shocks for a specified sample period of 1974–2010. The results show asymmetric correlations among domestic shocks, which do not suggest forming a common currency area across the region. The paper also finds lower factor mobility; lower degree of intra-regional trades, and lack of political cooperation, suggesting the SAARC countries are not yet ready to introduce a common currency.
