Nos últimos anos, mais e mais estudos têm apontado para as limitações das explicações do sucesso eleitoral dos partidos populistas radicais de direita pelo lado da demanda. Eles argumentam que fatores do lado da oferta também precisam ser incluídos. Embora os autores anteriores tenham feito essas reivindicações com base em argumentos puramente empíricos, este artigo fornece uma argumentação (meta)teórica para a importância das explicações do lado da oferta. O artigo discorda da visão dominante sobre a direita radical populista, que a considera um ser estranho aos valores dominantes nas democracias ocidentais contemporâneas - a "tese da patologia normal". Em vez disso, argumenta que a direita radical populista deve ser vista como uma interpretação radical dos valores dominantes, ou mais semelhante a uma normalidade patológica. Este argumento é fundamentado com base em uma análise empírica das ideologias partidárias e atitudes de massa. O deslocamento paradigmático proposto tem profundas consequências para a forma como a direita radical populista e a democracia ocidental se relacionam, além de como a direita radical populista é melhor estudada. AbstractThis position paper argues for an interdisciplinary agenda relating crises to on-going processes of normalization of anti- and post-democratic action. We call for exploring theoretically and empirically the 'new normal' logic introduced into public imagination on the back of various crises, including the recent 'Refugee Crisis' in Europe, COVID-19 pandemic, or the still ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Gathering researchers of populism, extremism, discrimination, and other formats of anti- and post-democratic action, we propose investigating how, why, and under which conditions, discourses and practices underlying normalization processes re-emerge to challenge the liberal democratic order. We argue exploring the multiple variants of 'the new normal' related to crises, historically and more recently. We are interested in how and why these open pathways for politics of exclusion, inequality, xenophobia and other patterns of anti- and post-democratic action while deepening polarization and radicalization of society as well as propelling far-right politics and ideologies.

Abstract
With a proliferation of scholarly work focusing on populist, far-left, and far-right parties, questions have arisen about the correct ways to ideologically classify such parties. To ensure transparency and uniformity in research, the discipline could benefit from a systematic procedure. In this letter, we discuss how we have employed the method of 'Expert-informed Qualitative Comparative Classification' (EiQCC) to construct the newest version of The PopuList (3.0) – a database of populist, far-left, and far-right parties in Europe since 1989. This method takes into account the in-depth knowledge of national party experts while allowing for systematic comparative analysis across cases and over time. We also examine how scholars have made use of the previous versions of the dataset, explain how the new version of The PopuList differs from previous ones, and compare it to other data. We conclude with a discussion of the strengths and limitations of The PopuList dataset.
