Bildband über das Leben in Syrien vor dem Krieg mit kurzen deutsch-arabischen Texten von in Deutschland lebenden syrischen Wissenschaftlern und Künstlern. Rezension: Der wunderschöne Bildband zeigt Fotos aus Syrien vor dem Krieg. Strassenszenen, Restaurants, Wohnzimmer, Märkte, Architekturdenkmäler, Natur und Menschen jedes Alters, verschiedener Berufe und Ethnien, in der Stadt und auf dem Land. Bilder eines normalen Lebens, das man heute kaum noch mit Syrien verbindet. Bilder, die auf Zerstörtes und Verlorengegangenes weisen, aber auch Hoffnung auf einen Neuanfang nach dem Ende des Krieges machen. Zusammen mit den deutsch-arabischen Texten, in denen Künstler und Wissenschaftler ihre sehr persönlichen Erinnerungen und Gedanken zu Syrien zum Ausdruck bringen, ist ein sehr berührender Blick auf Syrien entstanden, der sich über und hinter die Bilder einer blutigen Gegenwart legt. Nicht alles war gut vor dem Krieg, das machen vor allem die Texte deutlich, die auch von Willkür und Diktatur erzählen. Aber ein anderer Blickwinkel auf die reiche Kultur und die bunte Gesellschaft Syriens ist wichtig, um mit dem Land mehr als Bomben und Flüchtlinge zu verbinden. Fantastischer Bildband (2)
