Managing DoD in Fiscal Crisis
In: The public manager: the new bureaucrat, Band 36, Heft 1, S. 46-52
Abstract
Following an overview of how the Dept of Defense makes budgetary decisions & handles fiscal crisis, attention is given to the substance of a recent LMI Executive Forum, which included senior DoD officials, members of academia, & private industry experts, focused on the challenges & opportunities springing from defense spending budget pressure. At issue is how the DoD can respond to an impending fiscal crisis that will likely be qualitatively different from previous situations. Technical solutions that consider procurement costs & long-term sustainability, lower reliance on contractors, & examine how to decrease the cost of deferred military entitlements are seen as key.
