Paying for the Powell Doctrine
In: Dissent: a journal devoted to radical ideas and the values of socialism and democracy, Band 49, Heft 1, S. 49-59
Abstract
Critiques Colin Powell's misinformed assessment of the need for a heavy troop presence (250,000+) in stopping the Bosnian War. The true villains in the Bosnian genocide are exposed not as ruthless cogs in a killing machine, but an inexact organization of cowardly & pathetic mercenaries, who needed only to be pushed aside. Genocide was successful for lack of international opposition, & for Powell's fear of repeating costly mistakes of involvement in another Vietnam, Somalia, or Beirut, Lebanon. Arguments against bombing or ground troop interventions to stop the Serbian War are challenged. J. Sadler
