Identidad, soberania y nacionalismo en Mexico en la era de la globalizacion
In: Estudios políticos: revista de ciencia política, Heft 24, S. 215-257
Abstract
This paper explains & discusses two main ideas -- cultural identity & sovereignty -- the foundations of Mexican nationalism. Today, with the powerful momentum of globalization & formal integration into the US economy through the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexicans & their government are having great difficulties in accomplishing the fundamental task of constructing a new form of cultural identity & of nationalism to support their national interests. In order to do that, on one hand, the elites have to relinquish their sole right to economic & social prosperity, while the common people live in poverty & distress; & on the other hand, the common people have to learn to engage in active, plural, & democratic participation. These actions will create the framework needed to solve the political & social problems & guarantee a favorable economic & social outcome. 45 References. Adapted from the source document.
