The Ejercito Popular Revolucionario: Occupying the Cracks in Mexico's Hegemonic State
In: Latin American perspectives, Band 40, Heft 5
Abstract
The stability of the Mexican state in comparison with the rest of the Latin American nations paradoxically contrasts with the recurrent emergence of guerrilla organizations. The activities of the Ejercito Popular Revolucionario (Popular Revolutionary Army) are part of this paradox, representing what has been called a "recurrent guerrilla war" that takes advantage of the cracks in the hegemony of the state. What is new about this situation is that today the hegemonic crisis is not merely regional but nationwide. [Reprinted by permission of Sage Publications Inc., copyright holder.]
