In: Revista de estudios políticos, Heft 146, S. 81-112
Abstract
This text analyses the political and parliamentary activity of Mariano Roca de Togores, Marquees of Molins during the 1840's and 1850's. Member of Parliament in all the legislatures of the "Decada Moderada" and minister on several occasions, Roca de Togores was one of the main leaders of the moderate party and an effective defender of conservative ideas and interests in Parliament. He was a realistic and versatile politician who knew how to adapt to different political situations without giving up his deeply rooted convictions: the defence of the monarchy, political centralism, or the elitist character of political activity. He became an effective creator of opinion in the service of conservative ideas and helped shape basic aspects of the liberal State. Adapted from the source document.
