Abstract

Watts' study of the Nigerian village of Kaita concludes that some local-level hunger-coping mechanisms are at the ends of their tethers and may even be regressive. The author's study of Mende in Sierra Leone suggests that this may not be the case. Assesses whether the different conclusions are a result of analytic framework or location studied. (SJK)
