Abstract

The concept of social capital has been at the core of an intense debate in recent years from distinct approaches. The dispute has been focused on the concept itself, its formation & its consequences. This article asserts the importance of the cultural dimension of the concept exploring the logic of its formation with a detailed longitudinal analysis & estimating its consequences for the Spanish case. This cultural dimension of social capital is not reflecting any natural attribute of Spaniards, but is the result of the politics that different generations of Spaniards have been exposed to.
