Abstract

With the 1st Airmobile Brigade the Army provides a new, future-qualified, highly mobile, rapidly employable, effedive, multifunctionaI, and modularly composed major unit which is capable of conducting missions in the entire intensity and task spectrum of the armed forces and whose capabilities take account of the challenges to both response and stabilization operations. The activation of 1st Airmobile Brigade as of 1 January 2007 effectuated, for the first time in the German Army, the equivalent, synergetic, and organic consolidation of the capabilities of the air mechanized and infantry forces as well as of the required air transport forces in one major formalion under unitary command.This integralion results in the development of a new capability of the Army, i.e. the air assault capability.The air mobility of the army (air mechanization, air landing, air transport, general support tasks) will hence be expanded by this new capability.
