Abstract
The article explores the People's Liberation Army's (PLA's) role in shaping China's national security policy with special reference to the specific mechanisms, personal and bureaucratic, formal and informal, by which the PLA currently influences national security policy, as well as the kinds of views and interests that the military seeks to advance.
