Ethnicity and nationality in Singapore

Abstract

Ethnic and national identification among Singapore's ethnic groups have long been glidly characterized as incompatible. The author advances the counter-thesis that concurrent high levels of ethnic and national identification are conceivable for all ethnic groups in some multiethnic societies, and elaborates the rationale for a more humane alternative to nation-building in a multiethnic society.
