Abstract
The Cambodian Stake in the South-East Asian Balance, by Thai Quang Trung
After having been for thirty years one of the most dangerous sources of East-West tension, Indochina has become once more, an inextricable network of antagonistic interests. The present stalemate in Cambodia results from the interpenetration of three levels of contradictions, domestic, regional and global, produced by the strategy of Hanoi. Vietnam's alignement on the Soviet Union can only perpetuate the logic of tension in a world divided by the blocs. As the previous ones the present war in Indochina is bound to last for a long time. The countries of South-East Asia have only come out of the peripheral area of the cold war to enter in the new hot bed of the Sino-Soviet conflict. And the war of communisms will probably las for long.
