Abstract

formation is not only a matter of evolving "taste", it in fact entails much more complex stakes which have to do with the emergence of the artistic field, the autonomisation of esthetic judgment and the mutations of the religious sentiment. By reconstructing the whole range of judgments pronounced on
the May and comparing these with the actors' social positions, it is possible to shed some light on the change in the status of the work of art at this crucial time of the late-17th century and, perhaps, to understand what is behind appearance of the modern artist.
