Abstract
As lesbian and gay families become more visible in society, family nurses need to be prepared to help them deal with issues related to health care and daily living. This article reviews current knowledge about lesbian and gay family structures and health care needs and health care provider attitudes, and suggests strategies for the family nurses who may work with these families. One major strategy is for nurses to learn accurate information about lesbian and gay families to replace negative and inaccurate stereotypes.
