Abstract

RESUMENEl término «Tercer Mundo» hoy huele muy fuerte a xenofobia, etnocentrismo, clasismo o como poco a paternalismo. Hasta en los barrios más pobres del hemisferio norte se habla de «condiciones tercermundistas» cuando el equipamiento urbano, sanitario, laboral o educativo es deficitario. Vivir o provenir de un territorio «tercermundista» provoca un estigma social inmediato desde la perspectiva eurocéntrica. «Tercer Mundo» implica subdesarrollo, y subdesarrollo, bajo un modelo económico que confunde desarrollo con bienestar, progreso industrial con progreso cultural, no puede ser más que una descalificación económica, política y demográfica.ABSTRACTThe term «Third World» today smells very strongly of xenophobia, ethnocentrism, classism or at least paternalism. Living or coming from a "third world" territory causes an immediate social stigma from the Eurocentric perspective. "Third World" implies underdevelopment, and underdevelopment, under an economic model that confuses development with well-being, industrial progress with cultural progress, can only be an economic, political and demographic disqualification.
