Abstract
On the occasion of the publication of Fernando Savater's book on eternal life, the article sets out many issues concerning how to treat religion rationally. According to Savater, the basis for religious belief is the human wish for eternal life. The article evaluates the coherence of this argumentation and its religious relevance. It also asks about truth and the role which religion should play. An analysis is made of the absence in Savater's thought of major distinctions between religion and politics, and the difficulties to which these omissions give rise. ; Con ocasión del libro de F. Savater sobre la vida eterna, el artículo plantea diversas cuestiones acerca de cómo tratar racionalmente la religión. Según Savater, el fundamento de las creencias religiosas es el deseo humano de la vida eterna. El artículo evalúa la coherencia de la argumentación y su relevancia religiosa. Se pregunta también por la verdad y por el papel que debe jugar la religión. Se analiza la ausencia en el pensamiento de Savater de distinciones relevantes entre religión y política y las dificultades que comportan estas omisiones.
