Sustainability, Housing and the Bioclimate ; Sostenibilidad, vivienda y bioclimatismo

Abstract

For the authors, climatic change and the ever widening ecological hoof-print are both to a great extent theupshot of mindless urban growth. Buildings are only beaten by private transport and contaminatingindustries as the principal cause of that urban un-sustainability that grew ever the graver during the"building bubble". No policy is here thought worthwhile unless it be accompanied by such a major political,economic, cultural and social change as would put a stop to our immoderate laying waste of our scantresources.Any valid idea of sustainability thus calls for the overthrowing of market arguing in favour of the sanedemands of reason and ethics. As to housing, a call is made for the use of renewable energy sources, a cuttingback on the use of both energy and water along with a curbing of the production of waste, this coupled witha proper respect for the environment and outlay for research and development of those studies aimed atbroadening our bio-climatic know-how.Globalization is here seen to be destroying our planet, reinforcing un-sustainability and destroying cultures.Global disaster has not yet set in given that the level of consumption of the vast majority is but yet a joke.For the authors .it is high time that talk of Development as the ultimate goal be set aside as, for them, theonly alternative left for not doing so would be to seek out another planet where mankind could, yet again,set about destroying this new habitat. ; El cambio climático y la extensión de la huella ecológica son, en gran medida, consecuencia delirracional desarrollo de las ciudades. Los edificios son, tras el transporte privado y las industrias contaminantes,el mayor contribuyente a la insostenibilidad urbana que se ha incrementado durante los años de la"burbuja inmobiliaria". Cualquier acción es ineficaz si, para empezar, no se modifica radicalmente el escenariopolítico, económico, social y cultural con el fin de frenar el inmoderado consumo de recursos. La sostenibilidadexige rechazar la soberanía del mercado y reponer el gobierno de la razón y la ética. En vivienda,hay que facilitar el uso de las energías renovables, la reducción del consumo de energía y agua, y la producciónde residuos y el respeto al entorno, y fomentar la investigación y el desarrollo de las técnicas bioclimáticas.La globalización destruye el planeta, generaliza la insostenibilidad y arrasa culturas. El desastreglobal no se ha producido aún porque el nivel de consumo de la mayoría es irrisorio. Deberíamos dejar deparlotear sobre desarrollo sostenible, racionalizar nuestro modo de vida y repartir los recursos reales queel planeta genera. Otra alternativa es huir, colonizar otro planeta en las galaxias y empezar a destruirlo.
