Abstract

This newspaper issue is part of a larger collection that belonged to Edward McPherson; a graduate of Gettysburg College (Pennsylvania College) in 1848. McPherson served as Deputy Commissioner of Revenue, appointed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, and as Clerk of the House of Representatives from 1863 to 1875. These newspapers, ranging in date from April 15th, 1865 to July 15th, 1865, detail the events of President Abraham Lincoln's Assassination, the hunt, the trial, and execution of the Conspirators. They also recount the attempted assassination of Secretary of State William H. Seward. ; 4 pages; 22 x 16 in.
