Abstract

In the space of ten years, the enslavement of human beings has become a major international issue. This article seeks to examine the conditions on the European continent that have allowed enslavement to be turned into a "social problem", and hence to be taken on by various actors (international organisations, governments, NGOs). It suggests the existence of constant redefinition of an object with changing contours, encouraging the involvement of an ever-increasing number of participants. The issue of enslavement thus appears to offer a forum for the discussion of other contemporary problems. ; En l'espace d'une décennie, la traite des êtres humains est devenue un enjeu international majeur. Cet article vise à interroger, sur le continent européen, les conditions de construction de la traite en un « problème social » justifiant d'une prise en charge par des acteurs variés (organisations internationales, gouvernements, organisations non gouvernementales). Il suggère l'existence de reformulations constantes d'un objet aux contours mouvants, à la faveur de l'entrée en scène d'un nombre toujours plus grand d'intervenants. La traite est ainsi apparue comme une arène dans laquelle poursuivre d'autres débats contemporains.
