International audience ; The sale of national domains offered the traditional wealthy elites of the Ancien Regime the opportunity to consolidate, and in some instances significantly increase, their economic and social status. The revolutionary legislation abolished the feudal system of land tenure, which fundamentally changed the legal character of land property thus making it available for sale. The real estate buyers invested their profits on the newly established real estate market in turn in a traditional way predominantly by buying land and real estate, which is proven by property tax lists and testaments. In conclusion, it can be stated that real estate property formed the basis of the social, economic and political order, both in Napoleonic France and the Prussian Rhineland. A considerable portion of the Rhenish notables owed their wealth, their power, their influence and their social prestige not least to the purchase of and trading with national domains. ; Les ventes de biens nationaux permirent aux classes dirigeantes traditionnellement fortunées de l'Ancien régime d'asseoir leur condition économique et sociale, voire de l'améliorer sensiblement. La loi révolutionnaire libéra les terres de toutes les charges féodales, ce qui modifia fondamentalement leur nature juridique, faisant d'elles désormais des marchandises pouvant être vendues librement. Les acheteurs investirent eux aussi leurs gains de manière traditionnelle, essentiellement dans la propriété foncière, comme l'attestent clairement les listes des impôts fonciers ainsi que les testaments compulsés. La propriété immobilière représentait, aussi bien dans la France napoléonienne que dans la Rhénanie prussienne, la base de l'ordre social, économique et politique. De nombreux notables rhénans tiraient leur richesse, leur pouvoir, leur influence et leur prestige social en premier lieu des affaires réalisées avec les biens nationaux.
